Welcome to a Fun-Filled Summer!
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO REMEMBER: Please wear camp shirts at all times in order to help protect your clothing from the
creative art process. Want more shirts? Purchase them at any time for $5 each!
Please no flip flops or open toed shoes!
On Friday please bring a box or bag to transport your child’s artwork home—the
green cubbies stay here at camp!
Snacks are sold for $3 each. Check out page 3 for the menu!
Remember to review our Behavior Policy with your camper. We’ll need their signature too!
NEW THIS YEAR:
In order to help document the fun and memories throughout camp, each student will be
keeping short journals of their daily experiences. These journals may also be used to
convey important information regarding your child, including helpful notes from camp
staff, and some fun memories of our own. We’ll let you know about these notes if they show up in your child’s journal and if / what the next steps should be. Ask our Manager for more information!

Monday
Nature Scavenger Hunt—Get out your magnifying glass and let’s get outside to explore! Follow clues all around the Maitland Art Center to
find artwork, animals, and plants to record in your journal. The team
with the most lifelike pieces by the end of the hunt wins!
Tuesday
Waterhouse Residence and Artist in Action Visit—Make sure you wear
your walking shoes today! We’ll be heading to Lake Lily to explore the Historic Waterhouse Residence. We will also be meeting Faren
LeJeune, one of our Artist in Action, and learning all about his artwork!
Wednesday
Outreach-Audubon Center for Birds of Prey. Right around the corner here in Maitland live some feathered friends who will be visiting us today. Big thanks to the Audubon Center for Birds of Prey for visiting our camp today. Owls, hawks, and eagles all might be making special appearances today!
WEEK 5: ANIMAL TALES & TAILS
SO WHAT ARE WE DOING THIS WEEK?
Let’s grow some legs this week! We’ll be learning about and making all
sorts of creatures this — from scales
to feathers to fur, who knows what
we’ll be creating next! Mixed media is the name of the game this week as
we experiment and create each and
every day.
TEACHER SPOTLIGHT:
CHRISTINE
BAKANOWSKY
Ms. Bakanowsky is the fifth grade
teacher at Stone Lakes Elementary
during school year—and here’s a twist—she teaches math and
science! Ms. Bakanowsky uses
creative thinking to not only create
some really fun projects with our
1st and 2nd graders, but they all
learn something as well! She has a
BA in Elementary Education, and a
MA in Math and Science
Education. This is Ms.
Bakanowsky’s second year at Culture Camp!

OUR WEEK CONTINUED...
Thursday
Puppet Making Workshop—Let’s bring some of these animals we’ve learned about this week to life! Today we’ll be making our very own animal puppets to create performances and learn about animal
movement.
Friday
Curatorial visit, art show, and movie day! Our weeks always end in our
Art Show. Be sure each camper saves their favorite art piece from the
week to be proudly displayed in our showcase. A staff member from
curatorial will stop by to discuss the process of
displaying art in a museum and help our show really stand out!
We’ll end the day by watching Zootopia!
Don’t forget a box or bag to transport all of your child’s beautiful creations!
