Student Led Conferences (SLCs) All classes are now involved in Student Led Conferences. This is an integral part of our assessment and reporting process which involves a three way discussion involving the student, parent /carer and teacher centred on the child’s learning for Semester One. This year, these discussions will also involve the goals set by your child for Term 1 and 2, how they feel they have gone in achieving these goals (1 for home and 1 for school) and also suitable goals for Terms 3 and 4. Tonight is our “after hours” session and all teachers will be holding these conferences on the same night. School time conferences are held in the teacher’s Release time, recess, lunch or before and after school if necessary. I strongly urge you to participate in this process and let your child know that their school achievement is important to you. At the conclusion of our SLCs, those parents who have attended will be sent home a sheet asking for any other areas they wish to have clarified regarding their child’s learning. Please note, we do not calculate or deliver “place in grade” or “place in class”. Each child’s progress is looked at as an individual and this information is not available. Author visit We are very pleased to have well published author Cameron Stelzer visit the school on Wednesday to talk with the students regarding his experiences as an author and illustrator and to bring to life some of his “PieRats” characters. Students are invited to come to school dressed as a pirate on Wednesday to celebrate this visit. There is no charge associated with this dress up but the cost of the show is $3 and must be in to class teachers by Wednesday morning. While we are talking about visitors to the school, this week we have had members of the Mariners come in to work with our students on their soccer skills, the Waratahs have finished off their Rugby Union skills lessons and NSW AFL are also starting this week. We believe in letting our students experience many different sports so they may see how much fun they can have and perhaps choose to participate outside of school. All our pupils have a great time at these skill clinics and are excited to join in. Education Week Next week is Education Week and Woy Woy South is celebrating by holding our Yrs 3-6 Athletics Carnival at McEvoy oval on Wednesday 29 July and our K-2 Sports Day in the K-2 area on Friday 31 July. We are having an Open Day on Tuesday 28 July when parents are welcome to come to school at 11.30 and spend time seeing how our classrooms operate before sharing a picnic lunch at 1.00pm with their child/ren. You are most welcome to come along to these events. We also have a Kinder excursion, AFL clinic, Cricket clinic and an AECG meeting so it will be a very busy week all ‘round! Tell Them From Me Student Survey This is the last of the TTFM student surveys in which we have NSW norms as a comparison. This survey, completed in Term 1 by students in Yrs. 4, 5 and 6 is due to be repeated this term to see how the students’ views have changed. The parallel surveys for both staff and parents will also become available this term and we will be asking you to complete these when they become active as it supplies us with useful data for our future planning. Positive Learning Climate There are clear rules and expectations for classroom behaviour. Students understand these and teachers maintain high expectations that they be followed. In this school, students rated Disciplinary Climate of the Classroom 7.6 out of 10; the NSW pilot norm for these years is 7.6. In this school, Disciplinary Climate of the Classroom was rated 7.8 out of 10 by girls and 7.4 out of 10 by boys. The NSW pilot norm for girls is 7.7 and for boys is 7.5. Expectations for Success The school staff emphasises academic skills and hold high expectations for all students to succeed. In this school, students rated Teachers' Expectations for Academic Success 8.7 out of 10; the NSW pilot norm for these years is 8.6. In this school, Teachers' Expectations for Academic Success were rated 8.8 out of 10 by girls and 8.6 out of 10 by boys. The NSW pilot norm for girls is 8.8 and for boys is 8.5. Mrs K.
