APRIL 11, 2014 Weekly Newsletter of South Charlotte Middle School Parents, I hope that all of you enjoy a great spring break with your children. At SCMS, all of us are looking forward to the break as well. Please have your children rest and relax. When they return, the intensity will increase as we approach the end of the year and end of grade testing. Spring break is a time to rejuvenate. However your children do this, please allow it as they will need their energy and focus without fatigue when they return. Report cards will be arriving home today. Please ask your children for the report card. The report cards are being distributed during homeroom at the end of the day. I want to congratulate once again our Battle of the Books team. They competed this week in the Regional State competition and represented CMS and South Charlotte very well. They did not win the competition; however, being the CMS championship team is a lot to celebrate! Again, have a great spring break. I look forward to seeing the safe return of your children on April 21 st . Thank you for allowing us to serve your children each day. Regards, Lisa Bailes, Principal

Parents,

I hope that all of you enjoy a great spring break with your children.

I look forward to seeing the safe return of your children on April 21st.

Thank you for allowing us to serve your children each day.

The students and staff at South Charlotte Middle School came together again this year in

support of “Saying No to Bullying.” All the students and teachers signed an Anti-

Bullying pledge in which they agreed to stamp out bullying in our school. The South

Charlotte Middle School community believes in fostering a safe secure environment for

all students. This Anti-Bullying pledge hangs in the atrium near the school store.

Congratulations to the April Teacher of the Month:

Mrs. Strickland CTE Teacher

Yearbook Applications

Yearbook applications are now available in the main office and on the school's website for

the 2014-15 school year. I am seeking students who enjoy writing, taking pictures

(before, during, and after school), as well as students who are good proofreaders. If your

son or daughter is unable to attend athletic events after school, please do not have them

apply. If your child is unable to meet homework and project deadlines, the same ap-plies.

I am looking for hard-working, responsible students who take pride in their work.

Applications will not be accepted unless a copy of their 3rd quarter report card is

attached. (Report cards will go home on Friday, April 11.) Once applications are

completed, the interview process will begin. Before students are chosen for the staff, I

will host a meeting with the students and parents to go over the requirements of being a

yearbook staff member.

If you have any questions, please contact me via e-mail at [email protected].

Vitamin Review…. Vitamins are made by plants and animals, so they are organic, and provide many benefits to our bodies. In reality, if you eat a healthy, balanced diet, there is no need to supplement the vitamins you take in on a daily basis. However, due to hectic schedules, our food choices are not as diverse as they need to be. A general rule of thumb…A colorful plate usually means a more healthy diet. Following is a quick cheat sheet of some basic vitamins. Vitamin Benefit Foods A immune system, organ function, vision salmon, leafy greens, fruits, dairy B6 metabolism, brain dev., immune function poultry, fish, non-citrus fruit, leafy greens B12 prevent anemia, health of blood/food cells fish, meat, dairy Calcium bones, teeth, muscles, nervous system dairy, broccoli, grains C cell growth/healing, immune system citrus, broccoli, strawberries, tomatoes D bones (helps calcium absorption) salmon, tuna, mushrooms E antioxidant, immune system, dec. clotting vegetable oils, nuts, green vegetables "Vitamins and Minerals." On-Line School Payments (OSP)

CMS has provided us with the opportunity to accept payments for school events on-line. It is much like Athletics Pay-to-Play, comes with a fee (4%), and allows you to pay at your conven-ience. If you choose to pay on-line, it also relieves our teachers from the time taken to do the paperwork and to receipt and turn in money or checks. Teachers will continue to take cash and checks as they always have.

Just sign in to: osp.osmsinc.com/CMS Choose your student’s event and homeroom teacher, and make payment. The teacher and Financial Secretary are sent advisements of your payment.

We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity. It is rolling out in all CMS schools this year. Through the year, events will be added including field trips, textbooks, fees, and other payments.
