TERM 2 / WEEK 2

Ensuring Student Safety Copacabana Public School prides itself on ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our students and staff. We will continue to implement the following safety measures. These include:

Additional soap and hand sanitisers have been provided by the DoE and are situated in learning hub

areas and toilets. Students will be encouraged to wash hands regularly. Please talk with your child

about the importance of proper handwashing and the appropriate use of hand sanitiser.

Classrooms will be opened to utilise space between two rooms and we will refer to these areas as

‘learning hubs’ to maintain social distancing arrangements.

Classroom furniture is separated to leave as much space as possible between students.

Bubblers will remain inaccessible – please supply drink bottles.

Canteen will remain closed until further notice. Please ensure your child has a packed lunch and

recess.

No non-essential visitors on site (including parents).

Communication - parents can communicate to their child’s teacher via phone, school email and

REMIND App. Please continue to communicate with your child’s teacher if you have any concerns or

questions.

Follow the health advice and keep your child/ren at home if they are unwell. Parents will be called to

collect their child from school if they are unwell. This is a protection for all members in our school

community.

Please provide your children with their own stationery items and discuss the importance of not sharing

personal belongings and food at this time.

Eating – We will encourage children to remember social distancing guidelines when eating at recess

and lunch times. Eating will be in specific areas outside the classrooms and children will be supervised

by their teacher during this time.

Drop off and Pick Up

To ensure the safety of all students and staff we ask that you do not enter the school grounds for drop off and

pick up. Please wave goodbye and collect your child from the school gates. We ask that parents maintain social

distancing measures by not gathering outside the school gates and leaving with your child immediately.

If using the Kiss and Drop zone, remain in your car and have your child/ren exit from the passenger side. The

executive and or teaching staff will be on duty at the front and back gates each morning to greet students as they

arrive. Students will be farewelled each afternoon by staff supervising school gates. At the conclusion of the

school day, Kindergarten staff will walk their students to the school gates. Please discuss this new procedure

with your children and reassure them.

TERM 2 / WEEK 2

Later in Term 2

It is anticipated that all NSW students will slowly increase the number of days they attend school prior to the end of term 2, and following the advice of NSW Health. It is unknown at this time how long NSW schools will follow Phase 1 protocols. Any changes to these arrangements will be communicated to the school community via Facebook, REMIND App, email and the school’s website. Opportunity Class Placement Tests – 2021 Families of Year 4 students considering applying for entry into an opportunity class for 2021 (Year 5) are advised that the placement test has been delayed until later in the year. No date has been set yet for the postponed testing. We will endeavour to pass on new information when we receive an update. To stay up to date, parent should keep checking the department’s website at: https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and opportunity-classes/year-5 for revised dates, timelines etc. NSW Education Live Prominent Australians, including musician Guy Sebastian and TV foodies Matt Preston, Gary Mehigan and Manu Feildel, as well as the Department of Education’s Eddie Woo, have donated their time to help students kick start their day while learning at home. Department of Education Secretary, Mark Scorr, announced a series of 15-minute wellbeing classes to be live-streamed at the start of each school day until May 8. Students are invited to tune in to: https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/learning-from-home/education -live each day at 8:45am to join the fun. Advice from Busways – School Buses Still Operating Busways is continuing to work with Transport NSW to ensure vital services keep running for all customers during COVID-19. It’s important that we all continue to exercise every Government outlined requirement to ensure we get through this together. Busways has continued to:

Maintain extra cleaning on buses, with every bus receiving a disinfectant treatment every day, including all regularly touched areas such as handrails, poles, seats and doors.

Exercise additional procedures for all Busways employees to follow in order to limit any chance of the virus spreading. This includes issuing employees with hand sanitiser, requiring employees to wash their hands every time they enter and leave a worksite, employees staying home if they’re unwell, and minimising the handling of cash.

Students are reminded that they are still required to tap on and off with their Opal card or show their School bus pass when boarding. Current advice: If a student is experiencing flu-like symptoms, until they know what type of illness they have, they must stay home and avoid contact with other people. They should not board the bus. Students undergoing 14 days of mandatory isolation should not board the bus. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to contact Busways at [email protected]
