Blast wins league titleThe Oakville Blast U-15 girls rallied in
the second half to
edge the North Mississauga Panthers 2-1 and win the PeelHalton
Select Soccer League final.
North Mississauga capitalized on a free kick late in the
firsthalf but the Blast came out strong in the second half.
Midwaythrough the half, Oakville got its own free kick 35 yards
out.Defender Brittany Aldworth played a perfect ball into the
18-yardbox and striker Lindsay Annett beat the keeper to the
highbouncing ball and headed it into the net to tie the game.
Oakville continued to press and with 15 minutes left mid-fielder
Chloe Cross played a ball through to striker Alex Edgar,who got
behind the North Mississauga sweeper. In on a break-away, Edgar
faked right but never touched the ball and beat thekeeper through
her legs for the game-winning goal.
The Blast finished the season with a record of 25 wins, two
loss-es and five ties, scoring 94 goals and allowing only 14. The
teamwon a tournament in Rochester, N.Y. and were finalists in
Oakville.
