The Oakville Hornets extended their latest Provincial Women’s Hockey League unbeat- en streak to five games with a victory and draw last weekend. Oakville played to a 2-2 stalemate with the Barrie Sharks Saturday — despite out- shooting its hosts 46-16 — and edged the Durham West Lightning 2-1 Sunday in Ajax. Mackenzie Stamper’s first PWHL goal was a big one for the Hornets Saturday, ty- ing the game with 5:46 remaining in regula- tion time. Lauren Patterson also scored for Oakville. Sunday, Christina Putigna broke a 1-1 second-period tie with her eighth goal of the year. Madison Field provided Oakville’s oth- er marker, and goaltender Nikki Cece made 25 saves to remain undefeated this season (13-0-1). The Hornets (26-2-3) will visit the Leaside Wildcats this Saturday, then host the Bramp- ton Canadettes Monday (8 p.m., Joshua’s Creek Arenas). Oakville’s Christian Osborne is the new president of the Golf Association of Ontario. Osborne, who has volunteered with the GAO since 2011 and is a member of the Mis- sissauga Golf and Country Club, was named GAO president at the association’s annual general meeting Satur- day at Glencairn Golf Club in Halton Hills. “It is an honour that I don’t deserve but cer- tainly am very proud of, and I will work at it as hard as I can,” said Os- borne, noting past pres- ident Jim King often re- ferred to the position as ‘head volunteer’. “There are challenges, of course, but the game of golf that we love has survived world wars, depression, famine and recession. The challenges we face now are difficult, but nothing compared to what the game faced in the past,” he added. Osborne is currently the owner and vice- president of sales and marketing of Kleen- Flo Tumbler Industries in Toronto. He golfed collegiately at the University of Tole- do (Ohio), is a past member at The National Golf Club of Canada, has served on the Mis- sissauga club board and won the Mississau- ga club championship in 2000, and he has served on multiple committees for the GAO over the past several years. Discovering new revenue streams and building the association’s relationship with Golf Canada are two GAO priorities Os- borne listed at Saturday’s meeting. Osborne is the 13th president in the his- tory of the GAO, which was formed in 2001 with the amalgamation of the Ontario La- dies’ Golf Association and the Ontario Golf Association. Tyke red Habs dominate Milton tournament The Oakville Habs tyke red team defeated three Milton opponents by a combined score of 61-6 to go undefeated in five games at the recent Milton Winterhawks Classic hockey tournament. Oakville defeated the Milton Leafs 18-1, Milton Jets 12-0 and Milton Sharks 10-2 in the preliminary round, then grounded the Jets 11-0 in the semifinals and downed the Sharks 10-3 in the final. Contributing to the Habs’ success were Jason Litrop, Braiden Flemington, Colsen Flemington, Jordan Cummings, Michael Mo- dopoulos, Jake Greenwood, Sean Castellarin, Quenten Chaney, Keegan McKenna, Scott Milligan, Garrett Henderson, Spencer Booler, Max Newton, Ethan Creange and Jakob Mc- Gregor-Lane. Oakville bantams win Ottawa Silver Seven title A 3-1 victory over the Toronto Aeros clinched the Silver Seven title for the Oakville bantam AA Rangers at the recent Capital Fall Classic hockey tournament in Ottawa. Oakville, which tied Toronto 1-1 earlier in the tournament, outshot the Aeros 28-6 in the championship game. In the Rangers’ other games, they blanked Quebec’s Chevaliers De L ’Achenaie 5-0, tied Ottawa Silver Seven 0-0, downed the West Mall Lightning 4-1 and shut out the Missis- sauga Braves 4-0. Oakville goaltenders A.J. Sachdev and Sam Gaskin combined to allow just three goals in the six games. Other members of the Rangers are Ben Ecclestone, Lukas Radinovic, Nolan Guertin, Ryan Radovich, Nicholas Ivanchenko, Patty Maloney, Will McAllister, Jake Howden, Riley Fitzpatrick, Jeffrey Rice, Evan McHenry, Matt Evans, Paul Franko, Matthew Cvitak and Daniel Littlejohn. Oakville advanced to the title game with a straight-set victory over the Georgetown Impact in the semifinals. The Thunder’s win advanced the team to the premier division for its next 15U tourna- ment.
