● Be honest: The academic integrity of your work is essential. Always complete your own work. Copying or paraphrasing the work of others without giving them proper credit is plagiarism. Plagiarism will not and cannot be tolerated.

Digital Device Protocol: ● Headphones and cell phone MUST be put away and silenced as students enter

the classroom. ○ First offense: verbal warning and parent contact○ Every offense after: confiscation of cell phone and write up

Grading Breakdown:This class will be graded on a total points system. In a course that is graded using total points, each assignment has a point value that is a predetermined part of a whole point value. The weight of the assignment on the final grade is therefore tied to the number of points available in the assignment.

Grades are determined on a point basis, not by percentages. Each assignment will be worth a certain number of points and will vary based on time invested, sophistication, and whether process or product. Essays will be graded using a variety of rubrics. Final grades break down as such that the first semester (Q1 and Q2) is worth 40%, the second semester (Q3 and Q4) is also worth 40%, and a final End of Course exam for English 1 is worth 20%.

**NOTE: As mandated by the state, there is an End of Course test that all students completing English 1 will take. We will be working toward this all year, and student will be prepared to succeed.

Assignments: Grading Scale: Essays/Projects/Tests 50 to 150 points A: 100-90Quizzes/Presentations 20 to 50 points B: 89-80Workshops 10 to 50 points C: 79-70Daily Grades (HW & CW) 10 to 30 points D: 69-60

F: Below 60Late Work and Resubmission:● Students may not revise and resubmit final drafts of essays. Since revising

independently is essential in college and in all realms of writing, students should revise BEFORE turning in a final copy of each essay. To ensure a quality final draft, I expect students to conference with me BEFORE each paper is due.

● When homework is assigned, it is time-sensitive, meaning that it needs to be done on time (e.g. with that night’s reading).

● For each day missed due to an excused absence, students have 1 extra day to submit work.

● Late essays will be downgraded 10% for each day they are late. Students will earn at least 50% of the assessed grade.

● It is YOUR responsibility to ask about missing work ASAP. Any work not complete by the end of a unit is worth zero points.

● Nothing may be made up during class. You must see me to set up a time to make up any work. Make up work must be completed during ILT or before/after school.
