Penticton Secondary Art 9/10 2019 Mrs. Reid Unit Outlines Term 1 Drawing/Painting Community Building September 7- 11 Sept. 11-20 Sketchbooks Sept. 20- Oct.1 Collaborative Murals Students will work together to create a mural. We will play Art games and experiment with different mediums in the studio until we cannot see any of the blue paper anymore! We will also create personalized storage folders for students to keep works in progress. SKETCHBOOKS This year students will be learning book binding techniques and they will build their own sketchbook. They will use these books for the rest of the course for guided practice work. Cover Design Students will use watercolor and Zentangle patterns to design a unique cover. Oct. 1-18

METAMORPHOSIS Drawing Project

Students will create 2 realistic pencil drawing of 2 different objects. They will then complete 3 more drawings where they morph from one object to the next.

Competencies- Create as an individual using the imagination.

Revise, refine, analyze, and document creative works.

Demonstrate respect for themselves and others.

Content – visual arts elements and principles of design

Image development strategy.

Oct. 21- Nov. 1 Candy Still-life Watercolor Painting

We will discuss contour line drawings and composition. Students will create a composition using the contour drawings they did of the candy provided. Work will be created using watercolors.

Competencies- Create as an individual using observation and the imagination.

Revise, refine, analyze, and document creative works.

Evaluate design choices through creative processes

Apply thinking skills (critical, creative, and reflective) in the exploration, design, creation, and refinement of artistic creations

Demonstrate respect for themselves and others.

Content – elements: line, colour, form, value Principles: balance, contrast, harmony, unity

Image development strategy- observation, thumbnail sketch

Nov. 1- 7 Art History Page

Students will research a chosen artist and create an art history page answering specific questions about the artist.

Nov. 8- Dec. 6 Drawing-Clay

Students will create a study of popcorn using white conte or chalk on black paper.

Students will design an original character using the popcorn image as jumping off point.

Students will create a clay sculpture of their character.

Colour Theory

Competencies-Demonstrate active engagement and discipline in creating works of art and resolving creative challenges.

Explore materials, tools, and techniques by combining and arranging elements, processes, and principles.

Develop, refine, document, and critically appraise ideas, and processes and technical skills to improve the quality of works of art.

Dec. 9-20

Oil Pastel Study

Students will select a famous work of art and create an oil pastel study.
