CHRIS WALLER RACING – WINNERS THIS WEEK

ORION LOVE 5yo m by Zamindar – Okocha by Platini

Moonee Valley, BM84 2040m, 0.1 lengths

The French import Orion Love built on her pleasing Australian debut where she finished fourth to take out the BM84 at Mooney Valley on Saturday. The meeting had been transferred to a late evening due to the extreme temperatures in Melbourne earlier in the day but racing under lights for the first time proved to be no hindrance to the former European mare.

Under a patient ride from Glen Boss, who had her settled midfield in the run, she moved up before the home turn and stayed on strongly to hold out the second placed Spanish Love with a decent margin back to the third place-getter. Orion Love certainly has plenty of talent having raced in elite company in France including when being beaten just over five lengths by the dual Arc winner Treve in the prestigious Group 1 Prix Vermeille at Longchamp in September 2013 when trained by H-A Pantall at Chantilly. Connections are sure to have plenty more fun with this mare going forward. Her next start is likely to be at Flemington over 2000m on the 17th of January.

BELLA GALEANO 4yo m by Don Eduardo - Distinction by Honor Grades

Warwick Farm, No Metro Win 1400m, 0.2 lengths.

Bella Galeano took the step up to midweek grade in her stride on Wednesday at Warwick farm in the 1400 metre race for fillies and mares. Ridden by a confident Hugh Bowman, the four year old mare made it two wins from as many starts for the delighted owner and stable vet Ross Alexander.

Ross also bred the mare and has plenty to look forward to in the future as she showed great fighting qualities to knuckle down in the straight and wear down the leader Passionflower who had pinched what looked to be a winning margin around the home bend under Blake Shinn. However once balanced up in the straight Bella Galeano wore down the leader with Hugh full of praise for her, predicting a bright future ahead once she gets up over a staying trip.

Chris Waller open to Sacred Falls Doncaster three-peat

Chris Waller remains open to the idea of Sacred Falls attempting a historic Doncaster Mile three-peat as the influx of international raiders for the famous Randwick mile promises to keep the weight allocated to the four-time group 1 winner in check.

As Sacred Falls slowly steps up his pre-training in New Zealand before a final racetrack fling this autumn, a number of internationally trained gallopers have signalled their intention to seize the Doncaster crown.

Three-time stakes winner World Ace and triple group winner Real Impact are confirmed Japanese entries for the $3 million Doncaster Mile on April 4.

But it is the possible addition of Hong Kong superstar Able Friend to the Doncaster fold that could inadvertently heighten the chances of Sacred Falls lining up in the feature on the opening day of The Championships.

John Moore's Able Friend is considered more likely to stay at home for the Champions Mile at Sha Tin in early May, but if owner Dr Cornel Li Fook-kwan was to accept an invitation to Sydney it would provide a huge boost to Waller, who will study the weights before contemplating a Doncaster start with Sacred Falls.

The entire was understandably believed to be on a weight-for-age path including the Chipping Norton Stakes and circling the George Ryder Stakes this autumn, but Waller said the Doncaster still remained a legitimate option.

"It all comes down to his weight really," Waller said. "If you get a horse like Able Friend nominated for [the Doncaster] it would compress the weights. That's the beauty of being in Australia: you know the system, you know what horses suit which races and it all depends on what other horses are in there.

"He'll probably go the standard route like your Chipping Norton [Stakes] and then we'll work out whether he should defend his title in the Doncaster and look to win it three years in a row."

Waller prepared the first four horses across the line in last year's Doncaster – Sacred Falls, Royal Descent, Weary and Hawkspur – and has the carrot of the former becoming the only horse in 150 years of Doncaster history to win the race three successive years in 2015.

But there is plenty of racing to negotiate before that is even contemplated as Waller confirmed the five-year-old had progressed well since returning to Tony Pike's stable across the Tasman.

"They're happy with him and he has started to mature the last 18 months which has made our jobs easier," he said. "Obviously he's got some big boots to fill in the spring, but he's certainly up to it."

Sacred Falls will stand at Waikato Stud next breeding season where his connections hope he can emulate the deeds of his late father

O'Reilly, who died last Wednesday. The four-time champion stallion in New Zealand was 21. Source: Adam Pengilly

GETTING TO KNOW HAYLEY PALEY Melbourne stable-hand Hayley Paley took some time out this week to give us some background on her and answer our weekly questions… I grew up in Bendigo, country Victoria. My passion for horses and the racing industry came from my two cousins who both worked for Graeme Rogerson in Melbourne and then later in Sydney. They both looked after top line gallopers such as Grand Archway, Gold Lottey and Lashed! I would go and stay with them during school holidays and get up early and go to track work. When I was about 15/16 years old, I went to Bendigo races and met a local hobby trainer in Brad Cole who said I was welcome anytime which could have been the worst thing he said! I was there the following day and continued to work there while completing school for the next 6 years! Whilst studying and being at Brad's I also was completing certificates in the equine industry at the Harness Racing Training Centre in Bendigo.

It then came time to move on and press on to my dream of looking after top class gallopers. So I moved to Melbourne upon receiving a job with in Darley’s Melbourne stable Carbine Lodge under the guidance of the Snowdens where I spent two years. It then came time to find another job and I heard Chris Waller was setting up a stable here in Melbourne and was after staff so I sent in my resume and here I am. Within the first week we had a big cheeky strong Zabeel colt walk into the stable straight from New Zealand - I fell in love with him and during the spring gave me my first Group One win, The AAMI Victoria Derby at Flemington. Looking ahead the future looks bright!!

Nickname? I don't need a nickname as people find my name amusing enough, for the fact it rhymes.

Best quote? You’re nobody until your talked about!

Favourite part of the job? Going to the races and winning, hard work paying off. Favourite horse? Preferment!!

Best horse ever seen? Recent years-Black Caviar. Before that horses like Northerly and Lonhro.

Role model? In general it would be my mother. Favourite food? Any food is good :) Favourite jockey? Glen Boss

If you weren’t in racing, what would you have done? Fashion Designer

If you could invite two people for dinner, who would you invite? Tough question...ahh Beyonce and Jamie Oliver. I know I'd get dinner and entertainment :)

Event in the world that you would most like to attend? Royal Ascot Racing Carnival.

What would you do with your last $5? Put it on Preferment to win another Derby!

Tip for the weekend? She's Clean- back in Sydney been running really well here in Melbourne without much luck.
