Debating Team

Today the stage three debaters debated at Wadalba against Jewells Public School. The topic was "that all parents should provide their kids with a pet". We were negative and came up with some very strong arguments around cost, space and the mental health of the pet. The team from Jewells PS were very strong and they had a win against us. I would like to take this opportunity to thank congratulate our team on another impressive year. We competed against some very strong schools. The Wadalba students argued well on every occasion and impressed everyone with their talent.

Mrs Kylie Snell- Debating Co-ordinator

Reptile Park Excursion On Wednesday,7th September,, Stage One and some year three kids from Wadalba Community School went on a fun excursion to The Reptile Park. When the bus arrived at school, the rolls were marked and we were ready to go! It was a pretty boring ride but finally we got there. First, Mrs Swift took the blue group went into the Lost World of Reptiles enclosure. It was so fun in there. Next we went to the reptile show where Mrs Snell held a big python. A kangaroo stole Jace's lunch and tried to rip Mischa off the fence! My favourite part was when I got to hold a blue tongue lizard. Then we went into the spider enclosure. It was extremely creepy and I sat on the red back spider toilet but I almost forgot to flush!! After that, we did a couple more things that were very exciting. Then we got to see Hugo the Galapagos Tortoise. He was big and old. While we were looking at him, that rude kangaroo tried to take my chips. He didn't get them but he made them really soggy. I thought our excursion was absolutely amazing!

Our Motivated Learner

Focus is:

Has a Positive Attitude to Learning Here are some ways you can help

your child develop this skill.

Discuss 3 positive things about your child’s learning each day. Often children get stuck on what went wrong during their day and not on the positives. Instead of asking your child ‘How was your day?’ Ask them ‘What are 3 positive things that happened today?’ Their answers may be just they got to play handball but this will slowly build their confidence towards school and their learning. Help your child set achievable goals Setting goals gives children something to work towards. When children reach their goal, their self-belief increases and it shows them what hard work and persistence can achieve. Setting goals also allows children to take risks they would otherwise not feel comfortable with.

Vision Board Workshops

Wadalba Community School is hosting free ‘Vision Board’ sessions for students, parents and carers of students. These sessions are aimed at promoting positivity in students and practising the skill of visualisation. The sessions are being run by a wellness coach (Kristina Ambler) who has a great deal of experience with helping people focus on their strengths and helping them reach their full potential. The session has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the parents and students within our school, as well as supporting the PDH/PE curriculum. The sessions will explain;

What a vision board is

How vision boards can help us reach our goals The students will then create their own vision board. These sessions will be run for primary students in Years 4-6 throughout the day and will be followed by the cuppa and cake session for parents.

Cuppa and Cake Session

During the parents and carers sessions, students will be able to share their vision board with their parents and learn about the process of making visions boards. Tea, coffee and afternoon tea will be provided.
