India against Corruption

Movements in 2011

Hazare began his Indefinite Fast on 5 April 2011 at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to press for the demand to form a joint

committee of the representatives of the Government and the civil society to draft a stronger anti-corruption bill with

stronger penal actions and more independence to the Lokpal and Lokayuktas (Ombudsmen in the states), after his

demand was rejected by the Prime Minister of India Manmohan Singh. He stated, "I will fast until Jan Lokpal Bill is

passed".

The movement attracted attention in the media, and thousands of supporters. Almost 150 people reportedly joined

Hazare in his fast. Social activists, including Medha Patkar, Arvind Kejriwal, former Indian Police Service officer Kiran

Bedi, Noted Hindi Poet Kumar Vishwas and Jayaprakash Narayan lent their support to Hazare's hunger strike and anti-

corruption campaign. People have shown support in internet social media such as Twitter and Facebook. In addition to

spiritual leaders Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Swami Ramdev, Swami Agnivesh and former Indian cricketer Kapil Dev, many

celebrities showed their public support through Twitter.[44][45]

Hazare decided that he would not allow any politician to

sit with him in this movement. Politicians like Uma Bharti and Om Prakash Chautala were shooed away by the

protesters when they came to visit the site where the protest was taking place. On 6 April 2011 Sharad Pawar resigned

from the group of ministers formed for reviewing the draft Lokpal bill 2010.

Protests spread to Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Guwahati, Shillong, Aizawl and a number of other cities

in India.

Government response to Hazare

On 7 April, Hazare's strike led to the resignation of Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar from the Group of Ministers on

corruption. On 8 April, the government started seriously considering the demands of the protesters. The government

stated that it would table the bill in Parliament in the upcoming Monsoon session. On 9 April, the government finally

agreed to have a 50:50 distribution of the Government appointed officials and the members of the civil society. On 13

May, PM Manmohan Singh stated that the Indian government had completed the ratification of the UN Convention

against Corruption.

Political party response to Hazare

Bhartiya Janata Party

The Bhartiya Janata Party supported Hazare, with prominent member Arun Jaitley urging the government to take

Hazare's fast seriously.

Another prominent BJP figure, L.K. Advani, suggested that a meeting of political parties should be convened to discuss

the issue "particularly in the context of black money and curbing money-power in elections".

BJP leader Narendra Modi posted on his Facebook account that he was praying for Hazare's health. He also published

an open letter to Hazare thanking him for the latter's support for the development work in Gujarat. Modi also warned

Hazare of possible vilification by a certain 'powerful-group' that wishes to defame Modi and Gujarat. He reiterated his

support for the Jan Lokpal Bill.

Communist Party of India (Marxist)

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) came out in support of Anna Hazare. Prakash Karat pledged support to Hazare

over the Jan Lokpal Bill.

Movements in 2012

2012 Indian anti-corruption movement" is the successor of "2011 Indian anti-corruption movement". The Leader of

this movement is a social activist named Anna Hazare. One of the main demands of Anna Hazare led team, popularly

known as Team Anna is establishing strong and independent janlokpal, an anti-corruption legislation and enforcement

body. On December 27 2011, Lok Sabha, lower house of Indian parliament passed a controversial Lokpal Bill which was

named under title of Lokpal and Lokayukta Bill 2011. The bill was dubbed by Team Anna as a Government Lokpal Bill

and not the bill they wanted. Before passing this bill it was introduced in Lok Sabha with key amendments moved. It

was debated for 10 hours in the lower house during which many opposition parties claimed that the bill was weak and

asked the government to withdraw it. After few amendments the bill was adopted by lok sabha. However the bill got

stuck in Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Indian Parliament and could not get passed during the winter session of the

parliament After that government again reintroduced the bill in Rajya Sabha in February 2012 during the budget

session of the Parliament, but the bill didn't come up for discussion and once again the session ended without lokpal

bill being passed. Later Anna Hazare declared to start the movement again. As a mark of protest he decided to sit on

hunger strike on 25th March 2012 for one day.

VOIP VOICE OVER INTERNET PROTOCOL

VoIP (voice over internet protocol) is a communication

protocols and transmission techniques that use for

delivery voice communication and multimedia session

over internet protocol networks.

VoIP also refers to IP telephony or Internet telephony

which use for communication

services like SMS, Voice, fax

that are transport via the

internet rather than the

conventional PSTN (public

switched telephone network).

VoIP Protocols::

VoIP can be implemented

using both the proprietary

and open protocols. Some

protocols are listed here

which are used in VoIP.

H.323

IMS(IP Multimedia Subsystem)

MGCP(Media Gateway Control Protocol)

SIP(Session Initiation Protocol)

RTP(Real-Time Transport Protocol)

SDP(Session Description Protocol)

IAX(Inter-Asterisk exchange)

How VoIP works??

In the VoIP, the IP packets send on packet-switched

network rather than circuit-switched network in PSTN.

Hence the cost of the tolls charge from service

providers can be reduced in an efficient way using

VoIP. In all of above

protocols the most widely

used protocol is SIP because

it is signaling protocol that is

used in transfer of voice and

video calls over IP. Using SIP,

you can create or terminate

point to point or multipoint

sessions.

Software that used VoIP:

In your day-to-day life, you

often do text chatting, voice

chatting or video chatting

through any software. All this

kind of software are mostly based of VoIP. Some of the

software are listed below with their compatible

operating system.

Or you can make your own VoIP server using some

application like Asterisk operating system based on

Linux.

BIO-COMPUTER INSIDE LIVING CELL

A newly developed bio-computer allows to "program"

molecules to carry out "commands" inside cells. Such

devices could one day allow humans to manipulate

biological systems directly. The new bio-computer

consists of snippets of engineered RNA assembled

inside a yeast cell. RNA is a biological molecule similar

to DNA, which encodes genetic information, such as

how to make various proteins.

In engineering terms, the bio-computer's "inputs" are

molecules floating around inside the cell. The "output"

manifests as changes in protein production.

For example, an RNA computer may be able to bind

with two different molecules. If both target molecules

attach to it, they trigger the device to change shape.

The altered bio-computer is now the right shape to

bind to DNA, where it can directly affect gene

expression and ramp up or slow down the making of

desired proteins. Those proteins can affect the cell in

various ways, such as killing it if it is cancerous

SMURFS:

Have you ever heard of Smurf’s Village? We are talking about the fantastic game that has passionate adults and

children throughout the world. The software house that has made this project Capcom is, and apparently the app is

getting a hit. It is only available in iPhone OS.

It is a multitasking game that runs in the background even if the game is not open. It works like this: There are

different ways through which you can develop the smurf‟s village like farming, baking cakes in Bakery, cutting woods in

Timer House, and mining jewels in Mine. Each plant needs some specific time to grow like 5/8/12/24 hours. This time

count runs even if the game is not opened. When it grows, we can harvest it to earn coin and XPs. XPs are used to take the

village to the next level. So, considering this fact, it is a daily playing game in which we need to keep the village alive by

visiting the game every now and then.

Search Engine Optimization Hello friends, reading this title some of you may have question, what is SEO (Search Engine Optimization)?

To understand this question you have to ask question to your self, why some websites/blogs come on first page of Search

Engine like Google and Bing? Do you have answer of this question?

Sites which are coming on first page of search engines are SEO friendly.

The goal of the search engine optimizer is to get top rankings on the search engine result page for search queries. Most of

the internet users used to click on the first few results of a search, especially if their search needs were met with an exact

find (maximum up to 3rd page of search engine result page).

If your website comes on first page of Google, than number of visitors in your website will increase and you can earn

much more money by AdSense.

How it works?

Search engines use what is called a spider to reach out into the Internet to find new and updated websites. As a page is

published, the spider stumbles upon the page depending on what words, images, video or other content is on the page.

The spiders don‟t actually recognize the images or the videos; they recognize the words in the description of the image or

video. When someone does a search that includes these words, the search engine pulls that up in its results. These words

are called keywords.

The spider also used to refer to the Title and the Meta tags on the page, Heading, content and links to the site from other

websites.

This is why the webpage code is so important. Many people spend a lot of time making their web pages look visually

appealing to people, but they don‟t think about the spiders in the search engines. Spend more time on your web site‟s

code for search engine optimization and you will find yourself getting high rankings.

I am not saying to create a page for any spider (or software), the page should be for the human visitors but should be well

optimized from search engine's point of view.

SEO techniques for top ranking

To make your website SEO friendly, you have to keep following techniques in your mind.

1) Title: Make sure that title of your website is short and descriptive. It also needs to contain the targeted keywords

that are relevant to your site. The search engines also use to show this title in the search engine results. Hence, it

should clearly describe your sites content so that the users will be interested in coming to your site.

2) Keywords: Keywords are an important part of SEO techniques. Unfortunately many webmasters overdo it.

Keywords are one of the most important factors in ranking high on search engines. You will find many tips on

adding keywords, such as ALT tags (<alt>), anchors (<a>) and other areas. While these are meant to be used if

you want to help boost your keywords, they should be relevant to the image or the place where you are linking.

Page 10: VVPCE BULLETIN Vol 2 Issue 1 VVPCE BULLETINvvpedulink.ac.in/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/CE-magazine... · 2019-10-10 · VVPCE BULLETIN Vol 2 Issue 1 3 India journey in Olympics till

VVPCE BULLETIN Vol 2 Issue 1 11

Many people try to stuff keywords into every possible place. As a general rule, I would say you can optimize one

page with 3 keywords or phrases. I would recommend starting with one or two. But never overuse the keywords.

3) Meta tags: There are two parts to the Meta-tag:

1. Description

2. Keywords

The description should be short, but it should be descriptive to the reader. Many times this will be the text that is

seen under your title during the search. You will want to give the reader a small overview of the page. Write

something that will make them understand what the website is all about and force them want to click on your site.

You can add meta tag in your website by your self.

<meta content=‟Write keyword of your site here. Separate each keyword with comma' name='keywords'/>

<meta content='Write small and meaningful description of your site' name='description'/>

Add these two tag in your website. So Search engine crawler can understand contains of your site and your site

will easily crawl.

4) Links: When other sites on the web, link to your site, the search engine spider finds these links and counts it as a

vote of support. The more quality pages that link to your page, higher ranking in the search engine.

A great way to get one way links is directory submission. Also if you have unique and informative content on your

page, then other sites will be interested in linking to your site and refer their visitors to your site.

Page 11: VVPCE BULLETIN Vol 2 Issue 1 VVPCE BULLETINvvpedulink.ac.in/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/CE-magazine... · 2019-10-10 · VVPCE BULLETIN Vol 2 Issue 1 3 India journey in Olympics till

VVPCE BULLETIN Vol 2 Issue 1 12

5) Site Map: A good menu system is really a site map. A well constructed menu system that is on each page and

contains a link to very page on the website is all you need.

6) Quality Content: Content is King. Quality and informative content will keep your readers coming back to your

blog more often looking for new and fresh content. Use catchy titles with one or two relevant keywords and also

some relative keywords in the content so that you can get good ranking. You can also refer to any keyword

suggestion tools (Google Adwords keyword tool) to get an idea of all the relative keywords for your posts.

Many websites don‟t get visitors because of low search engine rankings. Use the above discussed SEO techniques to

maximize your search engine rankings.

You have to keep in mind below points also.

1) Update your blog/website regularly. It helps both from search engine as well as human visitor‟s point of view. It

Search engine spiders crawl your site more often so that the newer posts indexed quickly. Also your readers who

do start trickling in have the urge to continue reading your posts. The more regularly you update your website,

the better it is from all aspects.

2) Start submitting your website/blog to blog directories so that you get more number of back links for your blog.

We all know links are one of the most important factors that can affect your ranking heavily and directory

submission is one of the easiest ways of getting one way links.

3) Comment on other blogs of same niche as you but don't spam them with just 'nice blog' or 'nice post' as these

comments don't have any weight. Try to engage with your fellow bloggers by leaving quality comments as that

will inspire them to automatically visit your site where the comments link back to.

4) Place your Blog/website Url in forums and in your email signatures as this can bring extra and free traffic to your

website.

In the end remember that hard work pays. Patience has its own rewards. If you do not have money to spend, there is no

need for despair. Use alternative means and cost effective methods to improve your website and make it more meaningful

and useful to your visitors. Remember ultimately it is the quality of your web pages that matter.

ANDREW CARNEGIE

The Gospel of Wealth!

“It is disgrace to die rich.” The man who wrote these words, & who gave away seventy million pounds

because he believed them to be true, was born in a one-room attic home more than a century ago.

Andrew Carnegie – was the son of a Scottish weaver, a native of Dunfermline. In what were known as the

„hungry forties‟ of the 19th

century, the father struggled to earn a living & faced the prospect of starvation

for his family.

He could no longer get work – even his looms were sold.

At last in 1848, Mrs. Carnegie persuaded her husband to make a fresh start in the New World – the magic

land of America & a twelve-year-old Andrew moved to US with the family.

The Scottish family began work in America at Pittsburg but still for a time desperately poor. The father

sometimes making a little money as a handloom weaver & sometimes by working in the cotton mills.

Page 13: VVPCE BULLETIN Vol 2 Issue 1 VVPCE BULLETINvvpedulink.ac.in/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/CE-magazine... · 2019-10-10 · VVPCE BULLETIN Vol 2 Issue 1 3 India journey in Olympics till

VVPCE BULLETIN Vol 2 Issue 1 14

Andrew started with a very unpleasant job in the boiler room of a bobbin factory, but this didn‟t satisfy him

for long. He became a telegraph messenger boy. The sturdy, thoughtful, keen & trustworthy Scottish boy

soon promoted to be an operator.

One of the businessmen who used the telegraph office was attracted by the intelligence of the young

operator, & gave him a job as telegraphist in the Pennsylvania Railroad Co.

At 18 as a young man in the service of the railway company, Andrew Carnegie showed the qualities which

were to make him the most successful businessman of the 19th

century.

One day when he was left alone in the office & a complete breakdown occurred on the line, he took

control, & by sending out sheafs of telegraph in his chief‟s name he managed to get all the trains running

& the whole system working smoothly.

One day a man showed him a little model of a railway sleeping-car & with his gift of imagination, Carnegie

saw in his mind the great American railroads swept by sleeping car expresses, & he persuaded his company

to build some of these cars. The grateful inventor gave him a share in the new company.

By the time he was 24, Carnegie was receiving £ 1000 a year. All the time he was investing & reinvesting his

money. When he was 27 his income reached the great total of £ 10,000 a year.

When he was 30, Carnegie resigned from the railway company. He saw the immense possibilities of railway

development in the vast American continent & the great opportunity which this gave to the metal industry

that supplied the rails. So he became an ironmaster.

Carnegie‟s dream of the future of steel was more than fulfilled. During that time he became the Steel King

& the world‟s richest man.

Carnegie‟s reign as Steel King with his vast works in Pittsburg, his iron mines & coalfields, private railways –

docks, lasted from 1875 when he began to build his 1st steel works until 1900 when he sold his interest in

the business to his fellow-millionaire, Pierpont Morgan.

But there was another & much deeper purpose behind Carnegie‟s money-making. He made a plan for his

life which he had written at the age of 33, just when he first realized that he was going to be a very rich

man.

He believed that a rich man‟s life should be divided into two parts, the 1st making money, & the 2

nd giving it

away. Many laughed at him, but to all his critics he answered, „Wait & see.‟

In 1900 Carnegie retired. Then for nearly 20 years he gave his money away. Carnegie had strong views

about the best way to use his money for benevolent purposes.

By the Carnegie Trust for the Scottish Universities he endowed Scottish education for ever, providing for

research & the payment of fees for poor students. In America he founded the Carnegie Institution for

scientific research.

Finally he formed the Carnegie Corporation both in America & in Great Britain, leaving a huge income in

Page 14: VVPCE BULLETIN Vol 2 Issue 1 VVPCE BULLETINvvpedulink.ac.in/wp-content/uploads/2012/08/CE-magazine... · 2019-10-10 · VVPCE BULLETIN Vol 2 Issue 1 3 India journey in Olympics till

VVPCE BULLETIN Vol 2 Issue 1 15

the control of trustees, to be spent by years on the purposes he specially intended: education, libraries,

music, the work of peace, scientific research, pensions for public men, & many others.

But the real greatness of Carnegie lies in his ideals. He was an idealist who lived & worked with his ideals.

After Carnegie‟s example had staggered the world, a great change took place in the attitude of many very

rich men.

We‟ve only to think of Rockefeller, Lord Nuffield & others to realize how closely they‟ve followed Carnegie

in their desire to avoid „the disgrace of dying rich.‟

“After a time,” Carnegie wrote to a friend at the time of his retirement, “I shall become a wiser & more

useful man.” Those were brave words for an old man, & it is probably true that the last years of his long life

were the happiest & more useful.

In the history of social development Carnegie is the man who first compelled wealth to recognize its duties,

not merely as a matter of moral obligations but of a decent self-respect on the part of men who control

large fortunes.

During his lifetime, Carnegie gave away over $350 million. He died in Lenox, Massachusetts, on August 11,

1919.

Now you have two choices.

1. You can send this page on and spread a positive message.

2. Or ignore it and pretend it never touched your heart.

The hardest thing to learn in life is which bridge to cross and which to burn...

"Only in popular education

can man erect the structure

of an enduring civilization."

— Andrew Carnegie
