Some Basics

• Team of 2 Students• Only a single 8 ½ x 11 sheet with notes

on each side is allowed per team.• Each team member may bring in a non-

graphing calculator• Event may be an “at seat” test or a station-

type exam.

The event should require students to accomplish some activity or activities using their knowledge of volcanoes and earthquakes and not be limited to simple factual type questions..

Some Examples of Process Tasks

• finding the epicenter of an earthquake• calculating the slope of a volcano• be able to draw a profile• calculate seafloor spreading• be able to read and use graphs and charts

Practice

There are 8 stations set up. Stations 1-6 are sample event type stations and stations 7 and 8 offer some additional examples of topics the event covers.

You will have approximately 4-5 minutes at each station.
