YÜÉÅ g{x ctáàÉÜËá Wxá~ “The best vitamin for a Chris an is B1.” “Soul food served here.” “Beat the Chris an rush, come to church this Sun‐day.” “Don’t give up. Moses was once a basket case!” “What part of ‘Thou shalt not’ don’t you under‐stand?” “To beli le is to be li le.” “So live that no ma er what happens, it wouldn’t happen to a nicer person.” “A er two thousand years, we are s ll under the same management.” “It sure is strange how li le things can bug us! For instance, it’s a lot easier to sit on a mountain top than a tack.”
#2 – A man named Jack was walking along a steep cliff one day when he accidentally got too close to the edge and fell. One the way down he grabbed a branch, which temporarily stopped his fall. He looked down and to his horror saw that the drop below him was more than a thousand feet, and he couldn’t hang on to the branch forever. So Jack began yelling for help, hoping that someone passing by would hear and lower a rope or do something. “Help! Help! Is anyone up there? Help!” Jack yelled. No one heard him. He was about to give when he heard a voice, “Jack, Jack. Can you hear me?” “Yes, yes! I can hear you. I’m down here!” “I can see you, Jack. Are you all right?” “No! Yes! But, who are you, and where are you?” “I am the Lord, Jack. I’m everywhere.” “The Lord? You mean GOD?” “That’s me.” “Oh, God, please help me! I promise that if You get md down from here, I’ll really be a good person. I’ll go back to church and serve you for the rest of my life.” “Ease on the promises, Jack. Now, here’s what I want you do. Listen carefully.” “I’ll do anything, Lord. Just tell me.” “Okay. Let go of the branch.” “What?” “I said, let go of the branch. Trust me. Let go.” There was a long silence. Finally Jack yelled, “Help! Help! Help! Is there anyone else up there?????” Fr. Murphy
Dear Parishioners,
The coronavirus scare has inevitably caused many of our elderly parishioners to stay away from church. Health offi‐cials are urging those who have respiratory problems or those who are frail in health to avoid large crowds. This is understandable. And, I want to stress to all our faithful that I am doing my utmost best to make everyone safe when you come to mass and adora on. However, it brings with it some pi alls. Some parishioners have expressed disappointment that I have gone so far as to remove the holy water from the fonts in the church and suppressed Communion from the cup. While I u erly hate to do these things, I have been urged from other parishioners and people who work in healthcare to make our weekend and weekday celebra ons safe. Obviously, despite all of these ac ons, viruses can find other ways to infect people.
I assure you that once this scare has passed I will resume the above prac ces. In the mean me, I want you to know that I am fully commi ed to keeping the faithful of Corpus Chris safe. Let’s pray that we will all get through this pan‐demic and all will be safe.
This coming Wednesday we will have our Lenten Parish Penance Service. We will have a number of priests to hear your confessions. It will take place on March 18 @ 7 p.m. in the parish church. If it has been awhile since you did confes‐sion, take advantage of this opportunity.
Our Friday Fish Fries will resume this coming Friday: 5 to 6:15 p.m.
And now some funnies:
#1 – The Church Message Board from First United Methodist Church “Free trip to heaven. Details inside.” “Try our Sundays. They are be er than Baskin‐ Robbins.” “Searching for a new look? Have your faith li ed here!”
“People are like tea bags – you have to put them in hot water before you know how strong they are.” “Running low on faith? Stop in for a fill‐up.” “If you can’t sleep, don’t count sheep. Talk to the Shepherd.” “No God – No Peace. Know God – Know Peace.” “God so loved the world that He did not send a com‐mi ee.” “Fight Truth Decay – Read the Bible!” “If you’re headed in the wrong direc on, God allows for U‐turns.” “If you don’t like the way you were born, try being born again.” “It is unlikely there’ll be a reduc on in the wages of sin.”
