gestuur waarin hy haar aans om nie die

nag op te staan en uit te gaan as sy iets in

die huis hoor nie. Hy het haar verder op-

drag gegee om die honde agter in die erf toe

te maak, die stoep se lig af te sit en seker te

maak haar jongste boetie slaap by haar en

haar sussie in die kamer. Teixeira is di

nag van 14 Maart 2013 uit Ilona Combrink,

Vorster se gewese vrou en toe Teixeira se

verloofde, se huis in Welkom ontvoer. Sy en

haar kinders is vasgebind en beroof.

Goedere van sowat R150 000 is gebuit. Geld

is daarna by kitsbanke uit Teixeira se

bankrekenings onttrek. Combrink het haar

losgewoel en die polisie ontbied nadat die

mans met Teixeira in sy bakkie weg is.

Teixeira se vasgebinde lyk is n week

later naby n ou mynskag tussen Welkom

en Virginia gekry. n Ondersoekspan van

die familie, soekgeselskappe en die polisie

het dag en nag na hom gesoek.

Vorster, sy huiswerker, Amelia Makoko

(24), Lucky Dhladhla (29), Rasta Mara (26),

Mosoatsi Tsemane (23) en Elvis Nkhabu (24)

staan tereg op aanklagte van sameswering

om n misdaad te pleeg, ontvoering, moord

en gewapende roof. Hy het sy opdrag vir die

moord glo twee keer aan die huurmoorde-

naars herhaal. Teixeira is drie keer in die

kop geskiet.

Vorster (46) is nou sonder n regsverteen-

woordiger nadat hy Dinsdag die prokureur

wat deur Regshulp Suid-Afrika aan hom

toegewys is, afgedank het en die advokaat

wat hy aangestel het, hom gister onttrek

het, omdat hy nie betaal kan word nie.

Regter Fouch Jordaan het gelas sou

Vorster nie Maandag n prokureur h nie,

hy sy eie saak sal moet hanteer.

Luidens die klagstaat en getuienis in die

borgtogaansoek het Teixeira en Ilona

Combrink se verhouding in November 2012

begin. Dit was vir Vorster onaanvaarbaar.

Hy het sy huiswerker, Amelia Makoko (24),

gevra om iemand te kry om Teixeira te

vermoor. Vorster het die vier mans R6 900

betaal.

Die verhoor is vir ses weke op die hofrol.

ONE of Welkoms legendary figures

celebrated his 92nd birthday on 29

January.

The name Aubrey Nyschens (92)

is synonymous with the evolving

business world of Welkom. Ny-

schens has sat on many seats and

worn many hats in the 64 years he

has been part of this towns

history.

He is one of the few surviving

original pioneering men of the

Goldfields. He has literally walked

the walk and talked the talk in

virtually every sphere of the

ever-changing landscape of a golden

city.

He came to Welkom in 1950 at

the age of 28 to be Welkoms very

first chief health inspector, a

position which he filled for 18

years.

He arrived on the dusty streets of

this remote outpost when the

pioneering engineers were literally

setting up Welkom.

He spent his first six weeks in

the Uitsig Camp, living in a

wooden hut. He then moved to

Nyala House and worked in the

mine hostels for six months before

moving to his first home in Cactus

Street, Doorn, and then to the

second one in Tana Street.

Dagbreek, Welkoms second

suburb, was still in the making,

and this was where Nyschens

established his third home.

He says there were no tarred

roads, no shops, nothing but vast

empty spaces, dusty fields and lots

of mud.

He experienced the very first

disaster in Welkom, the legendary

train explosion in 1952. This

explosion ripped through the

settlement when a mine dynamite

truck collided with a train trans-

porting cattle. Pieces of meat and

steel showered down all over the

tiny town.

Nyschens started his business in

1952 and then converted it to a

property company. He is now the

sole owner and director of Nor-

mans Agencies PTY Ltd.

He became involved in the

Goldfields Chamber of Business

when he was 43 years old and

remained its executive director for

20 years. He served three terms as

the president of the Goldfields

Chamber and he is now one of

eight honorary life members.

He was a member of the Welkom

city council for ten years and he

also chaired the management

committee.

Nyschens served as a chairman

of the Free State Chamber of

Business. He was a member of the

national chamber for 30 years and

a member of its executive for ten

years. He represented the Free

State Chamber for 20 years on a

national level. He became a

member of the board of directors

and is an honorary life member of

the national chamber.

I am a workaholic and I still

work eight to ten hours a day. I

have an excellent bill of health.

Nyschens married his first wife,

Sarah, in 1950 and they had three

children. His son, Craig Nyschens,

is a Baptist preacher in America.

In 1986 he was selected as one of

the top ten young men in America.

Janine, his daughter, is in the legal

profession. His other son, Garth,

died in a gliding accident when he

was 23. He was a lawyer. Nyschens

has six grandchildren.

It is extremely difficult to

document all his accomplishments

in one story.

In sport Nyschens played an

active part in the establishment,

function and administration of, and

as a player, on international,

national, provincial and local level,

in baseball (introduced Welkomites

to the game), Tae Kwon Do full

contact karate, soccer, tennis,

badminton and golf (he has a single

figure handicap).

He served 15 years on the

Goldfields Development Council,

ten years as a member and five

years as chairman of the Free State

Development Corporation, three

years as Free State representative

of the national Development

Agency of South Africa, ten years

as a member of the Free State

Provincial Tender Board, he is a

life member of the Welkom Lions

Club, a co-founder of and president

for four years of the Matjhabeng

Ratepayers Association, member

for four years of the SA Policing

Forum, member of the executive

board of the Matjhabeng Publicity

Association (MPA) and director for

two years of its flea market

division. He has also served as

vice-president of the MPA.

I do not think I am better than

anyone else, but I do not take

second place to anyone. I am 100%

a South African and my culture is

not for sale, says Nyschens.

raadslid se woorde in twyfel

trek na aanleiding van die

volgende:

) n Bordjie is sowat vyf jaar

gelede by die ingang na Bronville

opgerig waarop aangetoon word

dat paaie, ingevolge geld verskaf

deur die regering, gebou sal word.

) Ek het daarop na die Riemvas-

skelms.

Na aanleiding van die toestand

van die begraafplaas het ek dit nie

eens die moeite werd geag om na

die nuwe begraafplaas te gaan kyk

nie, omdat ek vermoed die

toestand daar sal in elk geval

dieselfde wees.

Oral is rommel gestrooi wat

niks anders as n broeiplek vir

siektes en knaagdiere is nie en

natuurlik ook n gesondheidsge-

vaar vir die inwoners van Bron-

ville.

Miskien moet raadslid Morris

antwoord op die pogings tot

dienslewering en die ooglopende

versuim. Hy moet ook verduidelik

waarom hy die agbare stadsraad

blatant probeer mislei.

MY Maltese poodle became

very ill on Saturday evening,

hacking and breathing heavily.

On Sunday morning I

discovered she was bleeding

from her private parts. I called

a vet and he told me to go go

the animal hospital. I was

asked to pay R500 deposit for

Nicky to be examined. I

borrowed the money and then

went to a chemist where I only

paid R13 for antibiotics. Today

my dog is healthy and well.

I am so happy and I appreci-

ate the fact that this chemist

was able to help me.

THE Vincenzo School for the

Deaf has eventually been

established in Welkom.

The Scarcellos, whose son

Vincenzo (10) was born deaf,

have never given up to have

their child schooled here in

Welkom.

It has taken Nicky and

Tiekie Scarcella eight years

of uphill battles to have their

dream realised. The school is

housed at the Catholic

Church, Jan Hofmeyr Road.

There are currently three

learners, including Vincenzo,

registered at the school.

Tiekie says they are in

negotiations with the Depart-

ment of Education to receive

official help and recognition.

There are about 200 000

deaf people in Lejweleputswa

whom no one seems to know

about, says Tiekie.

She says she desperately

needs a volunteer to help out

at the school. The person

must be able to work with

deaf children and assist with

their education.

A special needs educator

will be ideal, says Tiekie.

The school is English

medium.

Parents must understand

that it is much easier for deaf

people if they need to

communicate in only one

language. says Tiekie.

THE drive to collect 1 000 school

shoes for disadvantaged children in

the Goldfields is well underway.

So far the three Welkom-born

entertainers Jabu Mphanza, Tshediso

Mokoko and John Mafantiri of JNK

Media have collected over 300 pairs of

shoes in a week for their 057 Cares

initiative.

Tshediso Mokoko said they are

very happy with the results.

This is very exciting. So far we

have received so much love and

blessings from various businesses

supporting us with school shoes. On

board we have Pick n Pay Odendaal

and Toyota Odendaal. Our box,

situated at the Goldfields Mall in

front of Edgars, is overflowing with

shoes. We are so grateful to the

Goldfields citizens who have donated

shoes. We are very pleased to inform

you that already we have 24 schools

where children in need of school

shoes have been identified, he said.

The three men said the school shoe

project is just the beginning of what

they want to achieve in the 057 Cares

initiative. Their dream is to built a

state of the art sport facility and

creative hub in the township.

They say they want to create a

structural change in the community

since nothing has changed in the

community from way back in their

primary school days. For more

TK NTSEPE, a music promoter and public

relations manager, collaborated with two

artists, Duhva and Vuyisile, to establish the

Be aware, Be safe campaign.

Both of these artists are role models

within their communities and work with

their communities. They will use their

talent to create awareness for the cam-

paign, says Ntsepe.

As a community we face many challen-

ges. One of the major challenges is crime

and violence, and we must teach our

communities not to get involved with

drugs, says Ntsepe.

The three use the campaign to advise the

community through their shows. They

recently performed at the e.tv Sunrise and

eNCA and they where watched by millions

of people.

Through the campaign Be aware Be Safe

we promote a positive life.

We highlight and promote things that

affect us, as well as the challenges we face

on a daily basis as South Africans. We will

be in a better place if we all work toge-

ther, says Ntsepe.

He says they use their platform as artists

to create awareness for the campaign.

We will also promote the campaign on

radio and other media.

Duhva has just released his CD and DVD

titled In Him with Ungwele, and Vuyisile

has released a CD featuring his popular

song Omamelethapelo.

They will perform in the Klerksdorp

Auditorium on 22 February to market the

campaign.

We need the community to be part of

the initiative and support the talent that we

have in our community.

You must play your part to be safe and

aware of things that affect your loved

ones, says Ntsepe.
