Find a pattern in the nature

I have done lots of reaserch to find a pattern which I interstered in the begining,

The nature pattern

This is the pattern I found which is the tail of peacock .There are many sectors constitute together regular and it is really attract me.So I start to analysis this pattern

Then fill the same pattern in this four sections

Firstly,dived a squre in 4 equal parts.

Find the middle point of the curve,link two middle points to draw another curve

I used the Rhino to trace my pattern

Then I pick up some of the semi-circles that I like to design my 3D model

making the different size of the curve to adhere on this pattern which is quiet simple.

when I observed from the side of my work I found these simi-circle organ-ised a ladder shape.So I got the ideal

To make the emerging model

Cutting some slips of paper,and made all of these paper crooked.finally ,to sticked them as the image showed.

Infront Right

I tried to build the same model in rhino and organised this equal curves in a diamon shape ,looks like many hollows in this model that we could see the lights of my lantern from these hollows.

For making the lantern, I did some reserches, This the the Piano Building which located in Anhui province of China,I found some com-mon points from this build-ing to my own model,the netty walls let the light shone through these hollows.

This building located in Abu Dhabi,when I think about the volum I also consider the shape like this building.

I used the clay to shaped the whole lantern,I used 4 peices of the clay which the shape is same with emerging shape I made to montaged together.

water cube which lo-cated in Beijing,when I think about how does the light come through out of my pattern,I con-siderd about the ap-pearence of water cube because the water cube consisted by many hex-agons,and my lattern consised by sectors.both of this two shape looks like hollow.

when I did some further reaserch ,I had more inspiration of the light and volum of my lat-tern.I tried to make the different shaped shapes of plastic model by clay.

This is another plas-tic pattern I con-siderd about my lattern which I used one peice of the clay to make a diamond .

When I think about how to hold my lattern ,I also did some reaserch ,this three pictures showed there ways of holding.Most I perfer is hanging my lattern by a string.

This is the first time I learned that how to used rhino and now I grasp the simple technique of rhino .Firstly,I practicsed to draw-ing the simple shapes ,and then I start to applied to my pattern

week1 reading

During the first week the lecture and the tutorial, I know that what we should study in this subject. In the reading Analysing Drawing and Tooling , the authors introduced that how to gain the idea of design-ing which we should find a nature pattern first. Then follow the next 3 stages to analysis our pattern: first stages is to simplify a complex into a simple form. For my pattern (peacock) ,I traced pattern into semi-cir-cle shape in a A4 paper that make the nature pattern looked in a simple form. Second stage is to emphasize the principle of tensions in structure through the process of structural network development. In this stage ,I tried to move these semi-circles and arranged them in a different struc-ture. Third stage is to build up upon what was developed in second stage. So I made the my pattern that I already designed in three-dimen-sional.

week2 reading

According to article “pattern formation in Nature ”.the authorintroduced the physical constraints and self-organisingcharacteristic.I found that every pattern have their own rules toinformed. The reason of most patterns exist in plants or animals is tosurvive and protecting themself .For example, my pattern is the tailsof peacocks.It composed by numbers of semi-circles.As we know,thepeacock always spreads for attracting the female peacock.So I thinkthe semi-circle easily to spread.Also the the author introduced manymoment of the transformation,that is,symmetry-breaking ,boundaryconditions ,oscillation,branches,attraction repulsion and. Themoment of the transformation of my found pattern isaggregation.when the tails spreads,the semi-circle will aggregatetogether ,it really attract me and also easy to emulate.
