How Report Data is Calculated

Costs per square foot are based on all usable totals that were submitted to the EER

“Usable totals” are the data that has passed all quality control checks

Calculations are based on aggregating the total income or expenses reported for a given line item, then dividing by the total square footage of the buildings reporting that line item.

16

How Report Data is CalculatedEach line item is calculated separately and can be considered meaningful in its own right and representative of the widest amount of data available.

Check the number of buildings reporting for each line item, to gauge representativeness of data

Compare number of buildings reporting given line item with the total number of buildings and total square footage reflected in a given report.

How Report Data is Calculated

EER reports are currently based on and normalized to the BOMA 2010 Standard of Floor Measurement

BOMA can provide a multiplier to convert reported data back to alternative methods of floor measurement.

17

Confidentiality of Data

The Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice govern trade associations’ industry research efforts

Must prevent use of data for price fixing or collusion activity

All reported data must be at least 3 months old

To preserve anonymity, must have 5 providers reporting data
