TERM 3 BEGINS

Welcome back to Term 3! It’s started with a bang. Thanks so much for your support in so many areas.

Our 125 years celebration event is humming along with our next P&C meeting Thursday Week 2 at 5pm.

Thank you very sincerely to our leadership team who are driving this event. We are looking to have as

many people there as possible so please make it if you can. Please don’t underestimate the impact you

can make in our school. Efforts both big and small really do make a difference!

The P&C have done a fantastic job in organising the Splendour In the Grass Raffle. A special thanks goes

to Karina who helped to coordinate this. Thanks to everyone who has sold raffle tickets in our school.

Total money raised was $1390 and this was pure profit. A fine effort. We also had some school prizes

that we will settle on assembly in the next few weeks. Stay tuned for the results.

Just a reminder that open communication is something that we are really proud to promote at

Burringbar Public School. Please know that my door is always open. If something is concerning you or

your child we are here to listen. We as a school are constantly looking to evolve and I’m proud of where

we are heading.

There are lots of things planned over the next few weeks and here is a quick overview.

Book Fair and Parade –Week 3

On Tuesday 6th August in Week 3 we will have our Book Fair.

The theme of our Scholastic Book Fair is Dino-Mite, where we hope you

will Stomp, Chomp, and Read! It’s a fun reading event that brings the

books kids want to read right into our school. The Book Fair will offer a

wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every reading

level. This will be an opportunity to purchase books and other fun toys.

A proportion of money spent at the book Fair by our

community will come back to the school enabling us to

purchase more books for our library. On this same day we will have the

Book Parade beginning at 2pm.

Students will look to dress up as a book character and bring along the

book as well. It should be a fine day.

Healthy Food Lessons, Cooking and the School Garden

Mrs Levings will continue to have library lessons with a Health focus in

Term 3. She will be working in the school garden and promoting healthy

eating. Mrs Levings is looking to assist students to produce healthy food

products for a stall at our 125 Anniversary Day.

Soccer Gala Day—Week 5 Monday 19 August

Last term our Soccer Gala Day was postponed due to rain. It is now set

for Monday of Week 5. It will be held at the

Murwillumbah Soccer Fields at the same time. A note will be sent out in

the upcoming weeks.

Reading For Life Congratulations to all our students who read for 50 nights over the se-

mester. Reading is something that we really value at

Burringbar. Reading makes a huge impact on a students’

learning. In order to celebrate this achievement we had a pizza and

movie party at the end of last term. Well done kids! As it is a new

semester we will be starting our reading tally from one and encourage

all students to read a minimum of 50 nights over 1Term 3 &4.

Field Events Small Schools Carnival Congratulations to our students who made it through to our Small

Schools Field Events Carnival.

Community Project Update Community Project is here!

This is something we are really excited about!

At the first day of school our students met with Donna Harper from the ABC. She spoke to our students

about the skills required to be a quality journalist. Over the next few weeks our students will improve

their abilities to conduct interviews. In weeks 2 and 3 we will be interviewing our community members

of which we have 15 in total. After this students will work hard to research these community members

to tell their life stories. We have already had lessons with Cooper Wilson on how to do portraits and

Katrina Cram who has assisted us in the area of photography. In Week 8 we will have a presentation

afternoon at the M-Arts Centre where we will showcase the students work.

The idea of this project is to give our students a real purpose to their learning. I am keenly anticipating

what the students will learn and produce this term. Good luck kids!

This year we are offering a unique opportunity for students in Year 4/5/6. Students in these classes will be able to access University NSW tests in English, Maths or Science. This test is a good opportunity for students who would like to challenge themselves in their favourite subject area. The cost of completing each test is $15.95 and will be completed online at school. The test dates are as follows:

Science – 4-6th September

English – 16-18th September (this will need to be rescheduled as we will be on camp)

Mathematics – 18-20th September

To sign up to this opportunity please enter the following url into your internet browser : unsw.global/parentpay. Then enter our school code – 3830235b98. From here follow the prompts to pay. Good luck to those interested in participating.

Wombat And The Dream Weevil

SNORT! “Wombat get up!”

“Ok ma!” I’m wombat and this is my den. I’ve lived here for a while now. But I’m going back to bed because I’m lazy. “SNORT! GRUNT! WAIT I NEED MY HAT!!!!!!” My hat is the most comfortable hat in the whole WORLD. OK I found it. Good night!

Wait, what? am I in my dream? and am I a superhero? WOW! I’m important for once!

“Hat store robbery taking place right now” the news lady said.

WHOOP! WHOOP! “Oh I have to go, but you can come with me!”

“Hehe I am the most evil dream weevil on earth”

“Stop right there”

“No”

“Ok then I’ll blow you away with my air”

“ha good luck! What? No! I…I didn’t mean it like that AHHHHH!!!!”

“now to find those hats”

Wombat was searching for hours and hours and somehow could not find the hats. She was starting to get annoyed because she hadn’t eaten for over 14 hours, she chose to give up on the hats and look for food instead. Finally she found a cheap crusty restaurant that looked like the food would give you… well a sore tummy for days.

She walked into the crusty restaurant, people gave her dirty looks as she walked up to order the food. There were four things on the menu. Escargot, cockroach milk coffee, sardine smoothie and fried sardines. Wombat went with the Escargot and cockroach milk coffee. She didn’t know what a cockroach was (she hadn’t finished preschool) and she wasn’t French so she didn’t know what Escargot was either.

She sat down a booth and waited and waited… until a strange looking man approached her. He had huge sunglasses, a black coat and a old damaged brown hat. The hat had several holes in it and the coat is discolored so it looked more grey then it did black. The man looked suspicious and untrustworthy so Wombat didn’t know what to do. “Hello” said the man, his voice sounded shaky like he had been frightened “can you help me, I’ve lost my... dog!”

This made wombat more suspicious of him. “What’s his name?” Wombat replied “Mi-Mickey”

Wombat was starting to wonder if he even had a dog.

“EVERYBODY GET DOWN!” the man looked around and ran and the police followed after.

The officers that weren’t chasing after him where calming everyone down.

“WOMBAT GET UP!”

“UGH FINE!”

Wombat got up, got dressed and went to watch TV. She turned on the TV and watched the news.

“hat thief caught” Wombat couldn’t believe her eyes; she thought it was a dream.

But where were the hats? And who had the hats? And where is my food? So many questions without answers.
