Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to a new term of learning at Sefton Infants School. I hope that all of our families had a relaxing winter break and that our students are ready for another great term of learning at our school.

This term our students will continue to build on their foundation literacy and numeracy skills during their class programs. Our Inquiry Learning groups will continue to take place on Fridays, with our students being actively engaged in small groups with project-based learning in Science, Geography and History. Our creative arts program will continue with the students experiencing a range of learning activities in the areas of drama, music, visual arts and dance. Fundamental movement skills and modified sport games will be the focus of our learning in physical education, while in personal development our students will continue their ‘Stop Think Do’ social skills program, as well as child protection later in the term.

Term 3 also offers some exciting extra-curricular learning opportunities for our students. This week, all K-2 students will be undertaking an excursion to the Australian Museum in Sydney. This excursion supports and extends our class learning in Science, History and Aboriginal Education. To celebrate Children’s Book Week later in the term, Sefton Infants School will be hosting a Book Fair and Book Character Parade, as well as participating in literature activities at Chester Hill Library. We are also planning an Athletics Carnival in the final week of term. So as you can see, Term 3 is already shaping up to be a busy and exciting term of learning. Please keep reading this fortnightly newsletter, our notes home and make regular visits to the school website and/or school app. to keep informed of all of our school events.

I would like to share some very happy news with our school community. Mrs Hbous (1/2O Class Teacher), Ms Dulaurens (KR Class Teacher and Assistant Principal) and Mrs Wong (School Counsellor) are all expecting their first babies in 2018. Mrs Hbous will be teaching 1/2O until the middle of Term 3. Miss Chan, a new permanent teacher appointed to Sefton Infants School, will then take on the class teacher role for 1/2 Orange. Mrs Hbous and Miss Chan will be working together to ensure a consistent teaching and learning program and a smooth transition is experienced by the students of 1/2 Orange. Ms Dulaurens will not commence her maternity leave until mid Term 4, while Mrs Wong will continue working on Fridays until the end of this term. Our school community will be advised of the staff replacing Ms Dulaurens and Mrs Wong later in the term. I know that the Sefton Infants School community join me in wishing Mrs Hbous, Ms Dularens and Mrs Wong all the very best for the birth of their children and their new roles as wonderful mothers. We hope that these teachers can visit later in the year so we can meet the new additions to their families.

Kind regards,

Sharna Labbe

Wed 8 August

The staff and students of Sefton Infants School love reading and we are celebrating Book Week with a number of activities. In the next few weeks each of our classes will be undertaking a local excursion to Chester Hill Library to participate in some exciting literature activities. Then during Week 6, Sefton Infants School will also be hosting a book fair in our library with a range of amazing books available for purchase. All students will receive an order form to take home to buy books. The book fair will be open each morning from 8:30 - 9am (Mon 27 August - Thursday 30 August) for book viewing. In addition, the book fair will be open for parents to place book orders just before and after our character parade. Support of this book fair by our school community is strongly encouraged as all book sales enable our library to earn points and purchase new library books for our students to borrow. In addition, we will be celebrating our enjoyment of reading with a book fair and a special book parade taking place on Thursday 30 August. Our students are being asked to come to school on this day dressed as a book character, book title or in a costume that suits this year’s Book Week theme of Find your treasure. It is time to start planning your Book Parade costumes now! All of our parents, carers and friends are invited to watch the parade, commencing at 2pm. Thank you for your anticipated support of our Book Week parade and fundraising activities .

The next Sefton Infants P&F meeting is scheduled to take place on Wednesday 15 August from 9-10am in the school library. All parents and interested community members are invited to attend this informal meeting where we discuss school programs and happenings, as well as plan ideas for future school events and fundraising activities.
