Dear Parents,
We in the English Department are so excited to begin teaching your children this school year. Despite these
unprecedented times, the English Department is committed in our goal “to create a vigorous academic culture that
kindles a passion for learning, develops intellectual gifts, and cultivates a Christian worldview, so students are
prepared for collegiate success and equipped to lead lives of integrity and influence for Christ.”
We have spent our summer poring over book titles that will aid us in achieving this goal. Throughout the school year,
we will be engaging with books whose topics and reading difficulty will challenge your student to instill a passion for
learning and to develop their individual, intellectual gifts. While our English teachers will not dwell unnecessarily on
difficult topics, we look forward to modeling for your student how to approach various topics from a Christian
worldview.
We are resolute in our desire to create a safe, Christ-centered space for your student to be pushed, cared for, and
learn. Through our pursuit of academic, spiritual, and relational excellence, your student will be able to leave ECS
prepared for collegiate success and equipped to lead a life of integrity and influence for Christ.
We have attached a list of required literature books per class that we will be reading this year. We ask you to
purchase these books for your child before school starts.
We believe communication to be of utmost importance. Therefore, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or your
child’s English teacher so that we can make this year most beneficial for your student. I cannot fully explain the sheer
buzz within the English Department as we prepare to be back with your child this fall. This really is a great day to be
an Eagle!
In His Service,
Andy Gross
English Department Chair
