Following on from the critical praise of their second album ‘Supermigration’ on Planet Mu; Solar Bears have joined the British

independent label Sunday Best, home to one of their heroes David Lynch, and run by British DJ, Rob Da Bank. Hailing from the east co

of Ireland, the band features two members, John Kowalski and Rian Trench.

Solar Bears return in 2016 with their highly anticipated third LP ‘ Advancement ’, which is the result of Kowalski's continued crate diggin

and Trench's extensive production work. ‘ Advancement’ is an epic statement where the individual sounds and phrases may appear

familiar to the listener, but when experienced fully the album provides a powerful soundtrack to the primitive beauty of existence. The

cryptic themes and unidentified episodes are wrapped in compelling sensation and emotion, chaos touched by balance, the known int

twined with the ethereal, cascading rhythms and expansive plateaus of sound. ‘ Advancement’ is a feeling of being close to something

precious but being unable to grasp it. The act of the albums creation and it’s waves of unfurling sound can be understood as the onset

a large impact event, potent but allusive in meaning.

Made over the course of a year, in many different locations and on specific set ups in particular spaces, the pieces were brought back

together for the band to merge into a whole. Samples of indigenous instruments are heavily processed, mirroring the widespread deca

of the

natural

world,

its

movement

inspired

by

the

natural

cycle

of

destruction

and

restoration.

Solar

Bears

experimental

sound

design

makes use of volcanic samples, elements of wildlife and native instrumentation. The result is a powerful, other worldly album, balancin

opposing forces and feelings, guiding the listener towards a peak of waking reverie and pure emotional release.

Their first releases featured everything from krautrock to library music to psychedelic electronica. The band's love of cinema and

experimental film has been cemented due to a long term collaborative relationship with the American director Michael Robinson, who

has created two videos and the artwork to accompany ‘ Advancement’ . Robinson’s work explores realms of light, abstraction, texture a

colour‐interfacing with imagery in site specific settings to live music.

Bobby Darin was so much more than just Mack the Knife. While jazz flautist Herbie Mann is often remembered as a pop jazz player, he was actually a pioneer in popularizing worldmusic and even prog-rock with recordings released on his owEmbryo imprint (as part of Atlantic Records). Phrases don’t get much more oxymoronic than punk supergrobut The Lords of the New Church had a pedigree no punk bacould match. Recognised as one of the greatest rock guitar players of all timDickey Betts was one half of perhaps rock's finest guitarpartnerships with Duane Allman, introducing melodic twin guitharmony and counterpoint which "rewrote the rules for how twrock guitarists can work together, completely scrapping thetraditional rhythm/lead roles to stand toe to toe". Dickey Bettswas ranked #58 on Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists ofTime list in 2003, and #61 on the list published in 2011.

After the death of Duane Allman in late 1971, Betts became tband's sole guitarist and also took on a greater singing andleadership role. He went on to write such southern rock classas "Jessica" and the Allmans' biggest commercial hit,"RambliMan." Dickey's first solo album, Highway Call, was released in1974, and after the ABB fell apart in 1976, Betts released moalbums, starting with Dickey Betts & Great Southern in 1977,which featured the hit "Bougainvillea," co-written with futureHollywood star Don Johnson.

Throughout 1969, Davis' touring band included Wayne Shorter,Chick Corea, Dave Holland, and Jack DeJohnette; as the groupnever completed a studio recording, it has been subsequentlycharacterized as the 'lost quintet' by many critics. In 1970 thisline-up, augmented at times by Keith Jarrett and SteveGrossman albeit often without Shorter, performed a number of

shows and released a number of live albums recorded at theFillmore venues - both East and West, in New York and SanFrancisco respectively - and one such famed gig is the April 10thperformance from Frisco, when Davis and group were supportingThe Grateful Dead. First released in 1973 as Black Beauty, thealbum has gone on to gain a reputation as one of Davis' finestlive records. The recording on this CD was made the night beforeBlack Beauty was recorded, albeit at the same venue, with thesame line-up (Davis, Corea, Grossman, Holland, De Johnetteand Airto Moreira on percussion) and also as support to theDead (and Stone the Crows). This April 9th gig however isdifferent beast to that of its predecessor. A differing set-list andvery sparse arrangements, absent the night before, make thispreviously unreleased recording very much a 'lost broadcast' andits first release here on CD will delight fans of Davis' mid period

work.
