by die ZK Matthews-saal in Pretoria gehou

word. Die kore van Horskool Despatch en

Muir College op Uitenhage is die enigste Oos-

Kaapse kore wat deurgedring het na die

ATKV Applous koorkompetisie se finale.

Volgens koorafrigter LynneGouws bestaan

Horskool Despatch se koor uit 101 leerders

waarvan meer as die helfte minderbevoorreg

is.

fter investigating claims by the Munici-

pality that the suspended traffic prose-

cuting system (Cyprus system) had resumed,

DA Councillor, Gustav Rautenbach, said he

can now confirm that the Cyprus system is

still not operational and the Municipal

courts have been closed for over three

months owing to this problem.

Rautenbach said he was informed in a

standing commitee meeting in March that

the suspended Cyprus system had resumed,

but he has now learnt that only 4 computers

of the 40 used to capture data and issue fines

to drivers are operational.

Rautenbach saidmunicipal courts are also

closed because there is no roll-out of cases

owing to the dysfunctional Cyprus system.

The municipality in an earlier statement

said they would be resuming the Cyprus sys-

tem after acquiring a new service provider

called Mavambo through a comprehensive

Supply Chain Management process.

Rautenbach however said that while they

have since awarded the tender to the new

supplier, almost the entire staff at the traffic

department is still left with little to do as the

computers which capture data resulting in

fines and summonses for outstanding traffic

debts are still not fully operational.

At the standing committee meeting they

(municipality) told us that they have re-

sumed the use of the Cyprus system and the

system, while not fully operational, was now

working. But through my investigation, I

have now learnt that is not accurate.

Rautenbach said after consulting some of

his sources within the security cluster he

learnt that only a portion of the systems

computers were operational.

Most of our computers are old and we are

told that owing to budget constraints we can-

not purchase the necessary system but the

problem is we are still losing millions in

fines with the way we are currently operat-

ing, said Rautenbach.

The suspension of the Cyprus system for

over 4 months was a result of the municipali-

tys failure to pay their then service provider

for over 6 months according to the munici-

pality. This meant that fines older than 30

days would be withdrawn - creating amajor

loss of income for the municipality.

The Cyprus system is responsible for cap-

turing every camera offence, parking of-

fence, or fine issued by a traffic officer on

its system. In the case of a camera offence,

a notification has to be sent to the registered

owner of the vehicle within 30 days of com-

mitting an offence. This also applies to park-

ing tickets where offenders are notified at

the time of the offence.

Should an offender not pay the fine, the

Cyprus system issues a summons against

the offender, Rautenbach explained earli-

er.

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipal Spokes-

person,MthubanziMniki, denied these alle-

gations saying they have since overcome all

the process and are currently making the

system fully operational.

By the end of this month we hope to be

fully operational.

In the past we have had challenges with

the supply chain management processes

that have led to a delay in the full operation

of the system. These issues have had to do

with the lapsing of the contract we had with

the company supplying us with the system

and procurement of computers that are ful-

ly compliant with the system, said Mniki.

Mniki, however, failed to mention how

much money had been lost during the sus-

pension orwhether theywere in the process

of purchasing a new and improved system.

South African super group Mango Groove

will be headlining the on-stage entertainment

on Sunday, June 29.

The group will be performing on the Wind-

hoek Stage from 14:00 in the afternoon.

Mango Groove has enjoyed over 12 number

one hits and received every South African

music and video award, as well as a number

of global honours.

The groups unique blend of South African

Marabi, Kwela and pop influences, have cap-

tivated audiences around the world.

The group started off in 1984 and consisted

Extreme motorcycling is heading to the Sun-

daysRiverValley thisweekendwhenchampi-

on Brent le Riche will treat Absa Kirkwood

Wildsfees visitors to an Extreme Motorcycle

Trials show.

To add to the racing action theNankangEx-

treme 4x4 Challenge will be held on the out-

skirts of the town at The Lookout on Saturday

as part of the Wildsfees.

As in previous years this outdoor action-

packed 4x4 event will be coupled with the

Wildsfees with a spectators shuttle bus serv-

ice operating between the festival grounds

and the 4x4 venue at one hour intervals.

A total of 50 vehicles will participate in the

event with entries from Cape Town, George,

East London and Bloemfontein joining the

locals. The classes will cater for a variety of

vehicles ranging from high performance

purpose-built to standard 4x4 pick-ups.

The event starts at 09:00 and a variety of re-

freshments will be on

sale throughout the

day.

Back to the Extreme

Motorcycle Trials

show, Brent has won the South African trials

championship 11 times, and has been ranked

number four in the United States.

Their high-energy show is a mix of spectac-

ular stunts performed on a purpose-designed

rig using state-of-the-art trials motorcycles.

Visitors will be thrilled by nose wheelies, mo-

torcycles ramping up and down three metre

highwalls and other insane stunts, promise

the riders.

There will be two shows a day on Friday,

June 27 and Saturday, June 28.

aan die Suid-Afrikaanse Instituut vir

Siviele Ingenieurs (SAISI) se Oostelike

Provinsie brugboukompetisie deelgeneem en

skoonskip gemaak.

Die drieuitblink-spannewat die beste indie

skool se interne brugboukompetisie gevaar

het, is ingeskryf vir die provinsiale kompeti-

sie. Elke span bestaan uit drie leerders en

hulle moes n brug met n spanlengte van

600mm en n minimum breedte van 100mm

ontwerp en bou.

Elf Oos-Kaap spanne het deelgeneem. DP

se drie spanne het onderskeidelik 1ste, 4de

en 7de plekke behaal.

DP se wenspan bestaan uit Jacques van

Staden, Nico Barnard en Daniel Lourens.

Hulle brug het 118.5g geweeg en het n gewig

van 95kg gedra en die beoordelaars het aan

die span 100% toegeken.

Hulle het elkeen R300 prysgeld ontvang

asook vlugkaartjies na Pretoria vir die SA

kampioenskappe wat op Vrydag 29 Augus-

tus gehou word. Di span het ook die SAICI

wisseltrofee ontvang.

Dit was die 10de keer in 13 jaar dat HTS

Daniel Pienaar brugbouers die trofee gewen

het. Die span wen ook die trofee vir estetika

(ontwerp, netheid en voorkoms)met n punt

van 28.5 uit 30.
