O blessed St. Jerome, our Patron and our guide,

humbly we ask that you intercede for us before

God, and that our petitions this day will be answered. We ask your

blessing on the poor, the sick and the unemployed of our parish. Bless all married couples, the young and the old. Grant that those who have heard the call to serve as ministers

of your Church, will receive a special blessing this day. Pray for

us, St. Jerome, that our parish community will always remain

united in the love that only Christ can bring. May your word and

example be our strength and our consolation.

ministros reciban una bendición especial en este día. Intercede, San Jerónimo, para que esta comunidad

Twenty-Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Dear Friends and Parishioners of Saint Jerome, Pax Christi semper vobiscum! I wonder if you noticed when you came to church last

weekend the flower boxes around the church campus. They looked beautiful and clean. I would like to thank the family of Roberto Rodriguez from our Salvadorian community who generously donated the blessings of his landscaping company to our parish.

Along the same lines of generosity, I would like to also thank the families who hosted our Food Sale last weekend featuring specialties from the City of Hidalgo, Michoacán. You have seen their hard labor and dedication to the parish. We are aware that events such as these look quite simple; yet it takes a lot of complicated logistics before the food is ready to be served. We have other families hosting our Food Sale this weekend with delicacies from the State of Guerrero, Mexico. As I always mention, the best way to show these good people our appreciation is through our patronage. Whether you choose to stay and share food with your family under the tent in the small parking lot or you want some food to go, your simple gesture uplifts the spirit of those who have worked hard to make our Food Sale a success.

Our Dinner, Music & Stories evening of parish camaraderie will be next Saturday after the 5:00pm Mass. A limited number of tickets have already been distributed for sale. The committee involved for the event planning is excited to bring us together for good food, a music recital and stories. As I announced last weekend, this evening of camaraderie is intended to bring us together while we continue to live through this time of the pandemic which has required us to be physically distant from each other. Of course, our evening gathering will not ignore the guidelines of social distancing. Make sure to dress properly in case the weather gets cooler, since this is an outdoor event. We will have two fire pits lit, but I do not know if they will be enough to make us warm.

We are supposed to have our parish banquet for the closing ceremony of our 125th Anniversary this time of year. Unfortunately, everything changed unprecedentedly due to Covid-19 pandemic. Perhaps we should consider resuming celebrations sometime in the future after all the restrictions have been lifted to compensate for all the anniversary events that were suspended over the last seven months. Just a thought for our consideration.

Anyway, the pandemic is another story in our history as a parish. With the Renew My Church program currently in the process of discernment for our parish grouping, and the issues that are facing our society today, perhaps we could be more spiritually reflective in order to see the movement of the Holy Spirit that leads us in a certain direction. Wherever that direction may be, we are assured that the Holy Spirit is the agent Who will bring us to our destination.

Estimados amigos y feligreses de San Jerónimo, ¡Pax Christi semper vobiscum! Me pregunto si notó cuando vino a la iglesia el fin de

semana pasado las jardineras alrededor del campus de la iglesia. Se veían hermosos y limpios. Me gustaría agradecer a la familia de Roberto Rodríguez de nuestra comunidad salvadoreña que generosamente donó las bendiciones de su empresa de jardinería a nuestra parroquia.

En la misma línea de generosidad, también quisiera agradecer a las familias que organizaron nuestra Venta de Alimentos el fin de semana pasado con especialidades de la Ciudad de Hidalgo, Michoacán. Ha visto su arduo trabajo y dedicación a la parroquia. Somos conscientes de que eventos como estos parecen bastante simples; sin embargo, se necesita una logística muy complicada antes de que la comida esté lista para ser servida. Tenemos otras familias organizando nuestra Venta de Alimentos este fin de semana con delicias del Estado de Guerrero, México. Como siempre menciono, la mejor manera de mostrar a estas buenas personas nuestro agradecimiento es a través de nuestro patrocinio. Ya sea que elija quedarse y compartir comida con su familia debajo de la carpa en el pequeño estacionamiento o si quiere algo de comida para llevar, su simple gesto eleva el espíritu de aquellos que han trabajado duro para hacer de nuestra Venta de Comida un éxito.

Nuestra cena, música e historias de camaradería parroquial será el próximo sábado después de la misa de las 5:00 pm. Ya se ha distribuido un número limitado de boletos para la venta. El comité involucrado en la planificación del evento está emocionado de reunirnos para disfrutar de una buena comida, un recital de música e historias. Como anuncié el fin de semana pasado, esta noche de camaradería tiene como objetivo unirnos mientras seguimos viviendo esta época de la pandemia que nos ha obligado a estar físicamente distantes unos de otros. Por supuesto, nuestra reunión nocturna no ignorará las pautas del distanciamiento social. Asegúrese de vestirse adecuadamente en caso de que el clima sea más fresco, ya que este es un evento al aire libre. Tendremos dos fogatas encendidas, pero no sé si serán suficientes para calentarnos.

Se supone que tenemos nuestro banquete parroquial para la ceremonia de clausura de nuestro 125 aniversario en esta época del año. Desafortunadamente, todo cambió sin precedentes debido a la pandemia de Covid-19. Quizás deberíamos considerar reanudar las celebraciones en el futuro después de que se hayan levantado todas las restricciones para compensar todos los eventos de aniversario que se suspendieron durante los últimos siete meses. Solo un pensamiento para nuestra consideración.

De todos modos, la pandemia es otra historia en nuestra historia como parroquia. Con el programa Renew My Church actualmente en proceso de discernimiento para nuestra agrupación parroquial, y los problemas que enfrenta nuestra sociedad en la actualidad, tal vez podríamos ser más reflexivos espiritualmente para ver el movimiento del Espíritu Santo que nos guía en un cierta dirección. Dondequiera que sea esa dirección, estamos seguros de que el Espíritu Santo es el agente que nos llevará a nuestro destino.

I would like to urge you very strongly to participate in the celebration of the parish patronal feast this coming Wednesday at 6:00pm. Bishop Joseph Perry will preside our bilingual liturgy. Saint Jerome has been accompanying this faith community for 125 years! It would be a good gesture from us to celebrate his spiritual presence with us as we thank the Lord together at this special Mass. Make sure to call the Parish Office or register through our Facebook page if you are coming to attend the Mass.

Finally, please thank our Reopen Team volunteers whenever you leave the church after our Masses. They are carrying out an incredibly challenging ministry for the parish. I am personally moved by their dedication to their duties and am aware that they are often placed in a difficult situation when safety instructions are conveyed to our parishioners. They have no intention to make anyone’s life difficult. Following the Archdiocesan guidelines, their intention is to maintain order, safety, and reverence during our public worship. As I mentioned in the past, our cooperation with the rules and safety guidelines before, during and after our liturgies is an act of charity. We ought to be concerned for each other’s health and safety. If things are misunderstood, please address them calmly and patiently. We do not need to be upset. I am certain that a simple clarification will help. In addition, we need more volunteers who can also commit to sanitize the church every weekend after the liturgies. Our church cannot hold more liturgies without our volunteers. It is for this reason that this is a critical time for us to help each other so we can function efficiently as a spiritual powerhouse.

St. Jerome 24/6 Parking Patron Program Our 24/6 Parking Patron program is from Monday through Saturday only. Parking Patrons are not permitted to park on Sundays from 7:30am—7:30pm. If your vehicle is found in any area of the parking lot during Sunday hours, it will be

towed. This applies equally to those Parking Patrons who are and who are not parishioners.

To register as a 24/6 Parking Patron, please call the Parish Office. A copy of the following must be provided for the Parish Office files: Valid Driver’s License, Vehicle Insurance, photo of the Vehicle, photo of the License Plate.

Memorial Candles We are more than a month away from the day of the faithful departed, All Souls Day. It is our tradition and devotion to remember in prayer our loved ones who have gone before us. These candles will serve as our commemorative candles for our faithful departed. Each candle will be dedicated to the name of the deceased, and their name will be mentioned before each Mass during the month of November. The candles will be kept lit in the church to remind us of our prayers for the departed.

Estamos a más de un mes del día de los fieles difuntos, Día de los Difuntos. Es nuestra tradición y devoción recordar en oración a nuestros seres queridos que nos han precedido. Estas velas servirán como velas conmemorativas para los fieles difuntos. Cada vela estará dedicada al nombre del difunto. Su nombre será mencionado antes de cada misa durante el mes de noviembre. Las velas se mantendrán encendidas en la iglesia para recordarnos nuestras oraciones por los difuntos.
