What are benchmarks? Students in third, fourth, and fifth grades take benchmark assessments to see how they are progressing with the Virginia standards taught thus far in the year. All students will be given a test in reading, math, science, and social science. Are they graded? NO! Your child will not get a grade in the grade book on these assessments. These benchmark assessments provide teachers with information. It shows what concepts or standards need to be retaught. Will parents be provided the scores? NO! Again, we use these scores to help steer instruction. Your child will not be graded and parents will not be given the scores. Do students need to study? NO! So… 15 divided by 3 = 5 15 divided by 5 = 3

3 x 5 = 15 5 x 3 = 15
