International Applicants from Overseas
This Application Guide is for non-Japanese applicants who reside outside of Japan.
The information found in this Guide does not apply to those who reside in
Japan at the time of application or the time of the interview.
Note that all dates and times in this Guide are based on Japan time.
This Application Guide explains information
pertaining to the undergraduate admission
to Toyo University in September 2018 from
application to enrollment.
Please read it thoroughly to ensure that you
fully understand the required procedures.

Toyo University shall use names, addresses, and other forms of personal information that are contained in applications submitted to us for the
purposes of 1) receiving applications, 2) implementing the entrance exam, 3) announcing results, 4) processing admissions, and 5) providing
pre-enrollment education, as well as for tasks associated with these operations.
Toyo University may outsource some of the above-mentioned operations to businesses.
In some cases, Toyo University will provide personal information it has received to said designated business so that it may execute the
outsourced operations.

About the Application Procedure for
International Applicants from Overseas
This Application Guide is for international students who reside outside of Japan. Applicants can
complete the entire application procedure online without coming to Japan.
1. Applications from International Applicants from Overseas (Type A) (Pages 3 to 7)
This category of application is for international applicants who want to matriculate as a first-year student
seeking a bachelor's degree; it also serves as the basis for selecting those eligible to receive the “Toyo Top
Global Scholarship A*.” Applicants who are admitted to the program and are deemed to have performed
outstandingly will receive the Toyo Top Global Scholarship A. (Not all successful candidates after document
screening and online interview will be nominated to receive the scholarship.)
2. Applications from International Applicants from Overseas (Type B) - Not available for
September 2018
This category of application is for international students who want to matriculate as a first-year student
seeking a bachelor’s degree; it also serves as the basis for selecting those eligible to receive the “Toyo Top
Global Scholarship B*.” Applicants who are admitted to the program and are deemed to have performed
outstandingly on the exam will receive the Toyo Top Global Scholarship B (Except Department of Regional
Development Studies.). (Not all successful candidates after document screening and online interview will be
nominated to receive the scholarship.)
3. Hennyugaku/Tennyugaku Applications from International Applicants from Overseas
(Pages 9 to 13)
This type of application is offered for international students residing outside of Japan who want to transfer to
Toyo University and matriculate as a second-year students. Note that applicants who apply in this category
will not be eligible for the Toyo Top Global Scholarship A nor Toyo Top Global Scholarship B.

Hennyugaku: for applicants who have completed another school.
Tennyugaku: for applicants who have finished at least one academic year at another school.

The application procedure differs depending on application type. Please read the instructions in this Application
Guide carefully to avoid errors.

The number of openings includes other Entrance Examinations for 2018 admission offered to international students.
The final number of accepted students may fall below the number of openings due to the circumstances of applications, application
screening results, or other reason.

Application Eligibility
Eligible persons must satisfy all of the following conditions (1 to 5):
1. The person is a national of a country other than Japan.
2. The person must be at least 18 years of age by September 30, 2018.1
3. The person has completed (or is expected to complete) a 12-year education curriculum or the equivalent* in
a country other than Japan by September 30, 2018 (see note below for exceptions).2
4. The person must satisfy one of the following English proficiency requirements or the equivalent.3
・TOEFL iBT® score of 79 or higher
・TOEFL® PBT score of 550 or higher
・IELTS™ score of 6.0 or higher
・TOEIC® score of 780 or higher
5. The person is seeking to enter Toyo University (desired department and course) as his or her first choice.
(Note 1)
・A person who completed a curriculum in a school outside of Japan that is considered to be the equivalent of high school that was
designated by Japan(MEXT) may be permitted to apply even if he or she has not reached 18 years of age by September 30, 2018.
・If a person has completed a 12-year standard school education curriculum in less than 12 years as a result of grade skipping or early
graduation and thus does not reach 18 years of age by September 30, 2018, his or her application can be considered.
(Note 2)
Exceptions will include:
・Person who has completed fewer than 12 years of education since he or she skipped a grade or graduated early in a country that
bases eligibility for admission to a university on a 12-year education curriculum.
・Person who has completed school in a country with an ordinary education curriculum of fewer than 12 years prior to university
enrollment and has completed (or is expected to complete) a university preparatory course for admission to a Japanese university that
was designated by Japan's Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology.
・Person who has completed school in a country with an ordinary education curriculum of fewer than 12 years prior to university
enrollment and is recognized by Toyo University as having completed a program equivalent to a 12-year curriculum based on an official
certificate issued by that country.
・Person who holds an International Baccalaureate degree, Baccalauréat qualification (French Republic), Abitur qualification (Federal
Republic of Germany), or GCE Advanced Level or has been approved by Japan's Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and
Technology.

・A valid English proficiency requirement score must be the one from a test taken on or after January 1, 2016.
However, scores from TOEFL ITP®
, TOEFL®

*Applicants must complete online registration, upload all required documents, and pay the application fee by the document
submission deadline.
*Connection test for the online interview will be conducted between the scheduled announcement of interview outline and the day
before the interview date.
*The interview will be held on one of the interview dates listed above. Applicants can not choose the interview date and time.
*There will be no difference in the content of the admission procedure or criteria between Period#1 and Period#2.
【Regarding the Interview Schedule for the Faculty of Global and Regional Studies】
Selection for the Faculty of Global and Regional Studies will be conducted based on submitted documents (see “Subjects [points
available]” on page 4); however, online interview will also be conducted if deemed necessary. If it is determined that an interview
will be required, you will be notified via your registered e-mail address or “My Page” (see “From Application to Interview”
on page 15) by the scheduled date of the announcement of interview outline above. Please be sure to check if you have
received this notification.

Application Documents
1 ID photo Submit a Photo file of yourself with the specified size.
The photo must be taken within three months of the
time of application. It must be a glossy color with a plain
background that measures 4cm (height) x 3 cm (width).
It must show you from your shoulders above. You must
be shown looking straight at the camera and cannot be
wearing a cap or hat. (Any attire is acceptable.)
Photos with a matte finish, black and white, and
snapshots are not accepted.
If you will wear eyeglasses when taking the interview,
have yourself photographed wearing those eyeglasses.
* Your submitted photo will be used in your student ID
after your admission until your graduation.
2 Reason for
application
(prescribed form)
(1) Download the form from Toyo University’s Admission Information website and fill
it out in English. Note: Please use the form for Type A.
(2) Topics which need to be addressed are different depending on the department.
Prepare your form in accordance with the following instructions.

Studies】 Read the Instruction for GINOS Application Essay and address the
specific topics requested on your Reason for Application Form. The instruction
can be downloaded from Toyo University’s Admission Information website (URL:

Information Networking for Innovation and Design】
Describe what you want to study after entering the program.
3 Certificate of graduation
(or expected graduation) from a secondary
education institution
(equivalent to a high school in Japan)
(1) Submit a certificate that shows your enrollment date, graduation date, schooling
years, and graduation eligibility (Not a diploma.).
(2) As a special case that applies only when you cannot receive the above-
mentioned certificate due to unavoidable circumstances, such as the school from
which you graduated was closed or merged with another school, you may submit
your diploma instead.
1. Submit (upload) your application documents to your personal applicant’s web page called "My Page"
after you complete the online application registration process. (Hereinafter, "submit" shall mean
“upload to My Page".)
2. All documents must be prepared in Japanese, English, or Chinese. Documents in other languages must
be accompanied with an official translation prepared and certified by a public agency (e.g., an embassy,
university, high school, etc.). A translation by the applicant or a private company will not be accepted.
3. Download prescribed forms from the university's application information website (URL:
http://www.toyo.ac.jp/nyushi/en/admission/).
4. Allow yourself sufficient time when gathering documents, as receiving items that you need to
request from various organizations may take time. If circumstances prevent you from submitting
documents prior to the application deadline, contact to the university to explain those circumstances by
e-mail. Be sure to specify the documents that cannot be submitted on time and provide the date that
you expect to be able to submit them.
5. You must submit the original copy of each submitted certificate when completing the enrollment
formalities.

4 Academic transcript from
a secondary education
institution
(equivalent to a high school in Japan)
(1) Submit a certificate that shows your grades for all of the years (year by year) that
you were enrolled in school. (If you have attended more than one school, make
sure to submit transcripts from all schools.)
(2) If you cannot get the above-mentioned certificate issued due to unavoidable
circumstances, such as the school from which you graduated was closed or
merged with another school, you may submit your original grade reports instead.
(3) If you took a uniform exam for admission to an institution of higher learning (e.g.,
university, etc.) in your country when you graduated from your secondary
education institution, also submit a copy of your academic transcript for the
uniform exam. (You must also submit your academic transcript from your
secondary education institution.)
(4) If you skipped a year and it is not noted on your academic transcript, you must
submit a document issued by the school which certifies that you skipped a year.
5 Documents concerning English-language ability
Submit one of the following score reports certifying that you satisfy the English
proficiency requirement mentioned in Item 4 in the Application Eligibility section.
Only a certificate issued for a score from a test taken on or after January 1, 2016,
will be considered valid.

(2) TOEFL ® PBT Official Score Reports
(3) TOEIC ® Official Score Certificate
(4) IELTS (Academic Module) Test Report Form
*For (1) or (2), please have the score report directly sent to Toyo University (DI Code:
B895) by the deadline. (Allow yourself sufficient time when making arrangements, as it
may take more than a month to be mailed in some cases.)
*If, due to unavoidable circumstances, you cannot submit an official score report for the
exams listed above by the deadline, you may submit a copy of your score report.
However, you will be required to submit an official copy when completing the
enrollment formalities. Your admission to the university or eligibility to receive a
scholarship may be nullified if your submitted certificate is found to contain falsehoods
or if you cannot submit the official certificate.
*If you cannot submit a score report because, for example, you are a native or advanced
speaker of English and have never acquired an English proficiency qualification , you
may submit an “English-Language Ability Certificate” instead of one of the above-
mentioned score reports. Download the designated form from Toyo University ’s
application information website, fill it in, and then submit it after having it certified by a
public agency (e.g., an embassy, university, high school, etc.) .
(If you received a school education in English through the ordinary curriculum in
Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United
States of America or any other countries where the official language used is English
during the past six years, please note this fact on the English-Language Ability
Certificate. Anyone in a position of authority may prepare the certificate.)
If you took a uniform exam for admission to an institution of higher learning (e.g.,
university, etc.) in your country when you graduated or is expected to graduate
from your secondary education institution, also submit a certificate stating that you
passed the uniform exam. (You must also submit your Certificate of Graduation
[Certificate of Expected Graduation] from the secondary education institution.)

6 Letter of recommendation
(1) Submit a letter of recommendation written in English.
(2) Submit a letter issued by a high school or university. Anyone in a position of
authority may prepare the letter.
7 Passport Submit a copy of the page of your passport that shows your name, photo, date of
birth, nationality, and other information in English which proves your identity.
(Your name to register on the online application registration must be the same
name as it appears on your passport.)
8 Certificate of graduation
(or expected graduation)

If you have completed (or are expected to complete) a University
Preparatory Course for Students with less than 12 Years of Education
(authorized by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports,

Application for International Applicants from Overseas (Type B) is not available for September 2018. It is
scheduled to be available in April 2019.

Second-year Transfer (hennyugaku)
Eligible persons must satisfy all of the following conditions (1 to 3). (However, applicants for
Department of Global Innovation Studies, Faculty of Global and Regional Studies, are not required
to satisfy condition 3.)
1. The person is a national of a country other than Japan.
2. The person has completed (or is expected to complete) coursework of at least 14 years in school
education in a country other than Japan by September 30, 2018.
3. The person has achieved a Japanese language score (total of reading comprehension,
listening comprehension, and listening-reading comprehension) of at least 200 points in one of
the sessions of the EJU (June or November 2016 or June or November 2017) or has passed N
3 (Level 3) or higher of the Japanese-Language Proficiency Test.

4 Certificate of graduation

(1) This item must be submitted by applicants applying for transfer (hennyugaku).
(2) Submit a certificate that notes your date of enrollment, date of graduation, years
of schooling, and graduation eligibility. (This certificate differs from a diploma.)
(3) If you cannot get the above-mentioned certificate issued due to unavoidable
circumstances, such as the school from which you graduated was closed or
merged with another institution, you may submit your original grade reports
instead.
5 Certificate of withdrawal
from a non-Japanese
university or certificate
of enrollment in a non-
Japanese university
(1) This item must be submitted by applicants applying for ordinary transfer
(tennyugaku).
(2) Submit the certificate issued by the non-Japanese university.
6 Academic transcript from a non-Japanese university or junior college
(1) Submit a transcript that clearly indicates grades and earned credits for all
courses taken
(2) If you cannot get the above-mentioned transcript issued due to unavoidable
circumstances, such as the school from which you graduated was closed or
merged with another institution, you may submit copies of your original grade
reports instead.
7 Certificate of course completion from a non-Japanese university or junior college
If you are currently taking courses, this certificate should indicate the course
names, number of credits, and year of course completion. Submit a certifying
document issued by the university or junior college in which you are enrolled.
* You need not attach this certificate if your academic transcript indicates the course names,
number of credits, and year of completion for courses that you are currently taking.
8 Academic transcript from a Japanese university or junior college
(1) This item must be submitted by applicants who have previously attended a
Japanese university.
(2) Submit a transcript that clearly indicates grades and earned credits for all
courses taken.
* If you are currently taking courses, clearly indicate the course names, number of credits,
and year of course completion on the certificate.
(3) If you cannot get the above-mentioned transcript issued due to unavoidable
circumstances, such as the school from which you graduated was closed or
merged with another institution, you may submit copies of your original grade
reports instead.
9 Passport Submit a copy of the page of your passport that shows your name, photo, date of
birth, nationality, and other information in English which proves your identity.
(Your name on the online application procedure must be the same name as it
appears on passport)
10 Copy of International Baccalaureate degree, certificate of Baccalauréat qualification (French Republic), Abitur qualification, or GCE Advanced Level

11 Documents concerning English- language ability
Applicants for the Department of Global Innovation Studies, Faculty of Global and
Regional Studies only
Submit one of the following score reports certifying that you satisfy the
English proficiency requirement mentioned in the section on Application
Eligibility. Only a certificate issued for a score from a test taken on or after
January 1, 2016, will be valid.

*For (1) or (2), please have the score report directly sent to Toyo University (DI Code:
B895) by the deadline. (Allow yourself sufficient time when making arrangements, as it
may take more than a month to be mailed in some cases.)
*If, due to unavoidable circumstances, you cannot submit an official score report for the
exams listed above by deadline, you may submit a copy of your score report. However,
you will be required to submit an official copy when completing the enrollment
formalities. Your admission to the university or eligibility to receive a scholarship may
be nullified if your submitted certificate is found to contain falsehoods or if you cannot
submit the official certificate.
*If you cannot submit a score report because, for example, you are a native or
advanced speaker of English and have never acquired an English proficiency
qualification, you may submit an “English-Language Ability Certificate” instead of one
of the above-mentioned score reports. Download the designated form from Toyo
University’s application information website, fill it in, and then submit it after having it
certified by a public agency (e.g., an embassy, university, high school, etc.) .
(If you received a school education in English through the ordinary curriculum in
Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Singapore, the United Kingdom, the United
States of America or any other countries where the official language used is English
during the past six years, please note this fact on the English-Language Ability
Certificate. Anyone in a position of authority may prepare the certificate.)

Important Reminders Concerning
Application
1. Applications submitted from within Japan will not be accepted. (Applicants may be asked to present an ID
certifying residence outside of Japan or submit a residence certificate to their place of residence at the time
of application.)
2. Applicants must complete the online application and application fee payment procedures by 11: 00 p.m. on
the final day of the online registration period.
3. Applicant's name to register on the online application procedure must be the same name as it appears on
passport.
4. Any changes to the planned course or the application type will not be accepted once the application has been
submitted.
5. An applicant will not be permitted to take the interview if an error or deficiency is found in his or her submitted
documents.
6. Late submission of the application documents after the application period ended will not be accepted even if
he or she paid the application fee.
7. Submitted documents will only be accepted via upload to "My Page". Any printed documents mailed from
outside Japan or attached to an e-mail will not be accepted.
8. The application fee is nonrefundable and transferable once it is paid.
9. Any applicant who fabricated on submitted documents will lose his or her eligibility.
10. If you desire special consideration in taking the interview or pursuing your university studies due to an illness,
injury, or disability, please consult with the Admissions Office for the April Admission and with the
International Affairs Office for the September Admission before completing the application procedure.
11. After the announcement of application results, an applicant who is found to have submitted fallacious
information will have his or her eligibility to enter Toyo University voided.

Application fee: 10,000 yen
(1) Pay application fee using the online application system during the online registration period. You will not
be permitted to proceed with the application process if you fail to complete the payment during this
period.
(2) The application fee must be paid with a credit card. Follow the payment instructions on the online
application registration. All application fees are nonrefundable and nontransferable.
*A system operation fee will be charged.
Notification of Examinee Number and
Interview Outline
(1) If your application is deemed to be eligible, the university will provide you with an Examinee Number
via “My Page” on the scheduled day. Be sure to check the number. However, if the university
determined that your application is not eligible based on the document screening, you will not be
permitted to proceed with the application process. In that case, you will be notified of this fact by e-
mail.
(2) The university will provide you with a schedule of the connection test and the interview as well as
other details about the interview on “My Page.” Be sure to check the schedule on the date of
announcement of interview outline.
*Applicants for the Faculty of Information Networking for Innovation and Design will receive an e-mail from [email protected] on the day of
“Notification of Examinee Number” with regards to the interview date and time.
Connection Test and Interview
(1) The selection process may include an online interview that will be conducted via a web conferencing
system. Be sure to check the “Guide for interview via web conferencing system” carefully beforehand.
Please note the connection test for use of the web conferencing system will be conducted prior to the
interview date. The test will check the connection status of the internet line, audio and visual settings,
and other connection-related matters; it will take about ten minutes. Please double-check the settings
of your equipment beforehand. Remember that you may be barred from taking the interview if you do
not participate in the connection test.
(2) On the day of the interview, take the interview in the same environment as you were in during the
connection test. Note that the university will not accept requests for another interview due to
equipment problems.
(3) The following behaviors shall be considered inappropriate acts.
(a) Taking of the interview by other person (i.e., a person impersonating you).
(b) Other behavior that obstructs the fair administration of the interview.
If you are found to have conducted an inappropriate act, you will be barred from taking the interview.
Additionally, any admission screening results you have attained will be declared void. The university
will not accept requests for a refund of the application fee in such cases.
*The interview conducted by the Faculty of Information Networking for Innovation and Design will contain to assess the level of specific
academic knowledge required to enter the program.

Announcement of Results
(1) Application results will be notified to all applicants via "My Page" regardless of the result.
(2) Results will not be provided in response to inquiries by telephone, e-mail, etc.
(3) Results will not be sent out by post.
(4) Announcement of results is scheduled at 11: 00 a.m. (Japan time) on the announcement date.
(5) The university will notify applicants who have gotten nominated for the Toyo Top Global Scholarship via
“My Page” at the same time as the announcement of the application results.
Admission Procedure
Once you get accepted to Toyo University, complete the following procedure by the deadline.
(a) Admission procedure (online)
Log on to the admission procedure system from “My Page” and register by following the instructions.
(You will be provided with ID and password for the system on the announcement of results day.)
(b) Payment
Complete the payment procedure by following the instructions. Payment must be made with a credit
card. Remittance from an overseas bank or other financial institution is not accepted.
You will be able to make payment when completing the procedure described in (a) above.
* If you fail to complete the procedures described in (a) and (b) above before the procedure deadline, you will be considered to have
declined the admission offer. You will not be allowed to proceed with the admission procedure after the deadline.
* If you are nominated for the Toyo Top Global Scholarship A (see page 19), complete (a) only.

Status of Residence
International students who are accepted to Toyo University are eligible for the residence (visa) status,
"Student." Students possessing the status of residence, “Student,” become eligible for Toyo University’s
tuition exemption for international students as well as the scholarships. Please note that although you can
enroll and study at Toyo University with a status of residence other than “Student” which can grant a long-
term stay in Japan, you will not be able to use various services and benefits that are specifically for
international students with the “Student” status. Also you cannot study at Toyo University with the “Short-
Term Stay” status. If you get accepted to Toyo University through application procedures for international
students from overseas described in this Application Guide, Toyo University will file a proxy application for
issuance of a “Certificate of Eligibility for Resident Status” on students’ behalf. Details on the submission of
documents required for proxy application to the university will be provided in the “Admissions Guide” which
will be available after the announcement of results.
* Toyo University provides proxy applications for the status of residence “Student” only.
* If you cannot obtain (or are not expected to obtain) the “Student” status by October 1, 2018, due to late submission of the
necessary documents for this proxy application, you will not be permitted to enroll in a program at Toyo University.
* The decision on whether or not to issue a Certificate of Eligibility for Resident Status is made by the Immigration Bureau of Japan.

Toyo Top Global Scholarships
Toyo University provides Toyo Top Global Scholarships to international students from overseas who got
admitted to Toyo University through Type A and Type B application procedure and are deemed to have
demonstrated outstanding ability during the application process.
Toyo Top Global Scholarships consist of Toyo Top Global Scholarship A and Toyo Top Global
Scholarship B. Recipients of Toyo Top Global Scholarship A are nominated from applicants for the
Application Procedure Type A, and recipients of Toyo Top Global Scholarship B are nominated from
applications for the Admission Procedure Type B. Details for each are provided below.
Toyo Top Global Scholarship A
(1) Eligible Departments/Faculties and Number of Recipients for 2018
• Department of Global Innovation Studies, Faculty of Global and Regional Studies (30 recipients)

Admitted applicants who ranked in the higher group among persons who meet the following criteria. TOEFL
iBT® score of 79 or higher, TOEFL® PBT score of 550 or higher, IELTSTM score of 6. 0 or higher, TOEIC®
score of 780 or higher, or the equivalent.
*Only scores from exams taken on January 1, 2016, or later will be accepted.
The score must be submitted at the time of the application.
*TOEFL ITP®, TOEFL® CBT, IELTSTM(General Training Module), and TOEIC®-IP scores will not be accepted.
(3) Scholarship Amount, etc.
The recipients of the scholarship will be exempt from paying the entrance fee, tuition, and all associated
fees for four years. They will also receive a monthly payment of 150,000 yen for four years. The recipients
will not be required to repay the scholarship after their graduation.
Note 1: Each year, the university will examine each recipient’s academic performance and other matters and make a decision
on whether or not to continue the scholarship. The scholarship may be suspended or cancelled depending on the
result. Additionally, a recipient who loses eligibility to receive the scholarship or stop enrolling at Toyo University may
be required to pay back the scholarship amount already received.
Note 2: For monthly stipend, the scholarship recipients will be disbursed with an amount after subtracting expenses if any.

(3) Scholarship Amount, etc.
The recipients of this scholarship will receive a monthly payment of 82, 000 yen for four years. The
recipients will not be required to repay the scholarship after their graduation.

(1) Toyo University Tuition Exemption for Privately Financed International Students
The Toyo University Tuition Exemption for Privately Financed International Students scheme is
designed to encourage learning by international students who are enrolled in Toyo University or its
graduate schools and reduce their financial burden for everyday living.

First year: Exemption equivalent to 30% of tuition fees
Second to fourth years: Exemption equivalent to 40%, 30%, or 20% of tuition fees,
depending on academic performance

Recipients are selected from students who have difficulty with study for financial reasons
and meet scholastic performance standards as well as other criteria. Based on applications

(2) Scholarships
1) Masajuro Shiokawa Scholarship
This scholarship was founded in April 2002 by Toyo University Chancellor Masajuro Shiokawa to promote
international exchange at Toyo University and contribute to the education of international students. The
scholarship is awarded to international students with excellent grades, are of good character and health,
and who intend to contribute to the development of their own countries after graduation.

(3) Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately Financed International Students
This is a scheme implemented by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) to encourage
education and study. It is available to privately financed international students who are enrolled in
Toyo University, demonstrate excellence in terms of both academic performance and character, and
have difficulty studying for financial reasons. Toyo University provides notices on application forms,
interview schedules, and other matters concerning this scheme whenever JASSO announces that it is
accepting applications.

This scheme compensates the cost of having family members come to Japan when an international
student falls ill or is involved in an accident.
Eligibility
Requirements
1) The student is an international student residing in Japan and enrolled at Toyo University.
(regardless of whether expenses are government or privately paid, or if is during periods of
absence from school)
2) The student has completed international student registration procedures within the
period designated by the university.
3) The student is enrolled in a health insurance scheme (such as national health insurance).

3. Comprehensive Coverage for International Student Housing
Comprehensive coverage for international student housing consists of two components: overseas travel
insurance and a guarantor's compensation fund. This system provides coverage in the event of an
accident requiring compensation and alleviates financial burden on housing guarantors.
International students that enroll into this compensation plan may have the university act as a joint
guarantor (within the designated scope of compensation) when they are seeking housing. It should be
noted that premiums for this compensation plan are to be borne by the international student himself or
herself.
○ Compensation (joint guarantee) terminates when the student's "Student" status of residence ends or he or she becomes no
longer enrolled in the university due to graduation or withdrawal.

Recognition of Previously Earned Credits
For Transfers (hennyugaku or tennyugaku) to the Second Year
(1) Of credits that were earned at a university or other institution prior to transfer (hennyugaku or tennyugaku) to
Toyo University, Toyo University will recognize up to 32 credits as credits earned in the first-year subjects of its
Faculty of Global and Regional Development Studies.
(2) When it is deemed that subject credits earned prior to transfer (hennyugaku and tennyugaku) to Toyo
University match with the subject name, lecture content, number of credits, and other items in the Faculty of
Global and Regional Studies’ Curriculum Table, Toyo University will recognize credits individually for each
subject by matching the studied subjects with the subjects of the faculty.
(3) However, when subjects cannot be recognized individually as subjects of the Faculty of Global and Regional
Development Studies, the university will recognize the number of credits as a lump sum for each subject field.
(4) After transferring (hennyugaku or tennyugaku), students will earn the credits still needed to satisfy conditions of
starting graduation research as well as graduation requirements in accordance with the number of recognized
credits and course instruction in the department.

for all credit subjects you completed prior to your transfer (tennyugaku) to Toyo University for recognition of credit.
Please make arrangements for these syllabi in advance. Also, in addition to the application documents, you will be
asked to submit a certificate of graduation (certificate of withdrawal) and academic transcript (issued on or after
January 2018) together with the syllabi (In principle, those documents should be written in English.)
