Topic of the week: PROOFREAD YOUR RESUME TWICE. It would be difficult to emphasize the importance of proofreading your resume. One small typo and your chances of getting hired could slip. Proofreading it once is not enough, so do it twice, three times or as many as necessary. If you don’t know how to proofread effectively, stop by the Workforce Center!

Van Driver: Driver/Van Driver for Friends Outside Make a difference! Each Visitor Center has a Van Driver who is responsible for assisting clients with local travel in order to visit incarcerated friends and family at the institution. The Van Driver plans, provides information and drives a passenger van in the local area and on institution grounds. He/she reports to the Visitor Center Program Director. This is a part time position, working weekends and all major holidays. Friends Outside is an organization founded in 1955 by Quakers in the traditions of respect, nonviolence and social justice. We have been working inside California state prisons since 1971. We provide evidence-based jail and prison rehabilitation programs, long and short term reentry support, Criminals and Gang Members Anonymous meetings, family support through institution Visitor Centers, and advocacy for children of incarcerated parents through the "Bill of Rights for Children of Incarcerated Parents”. QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED. California Department of Motor Vehicles Class A or B license, with passenger endorsement. A Motor Vehicles Class C license is required to transport passengers in a vehicle that is designed to carry less than 15 passengers. (Required class of license changes per institution) Must provide a DMV (H-6) driving record containing no DUI convictions within the past five years, and no moving violations within the last three years. OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Demonstrate good interpersonal skills, and a courteous and professional demeanor. Obtain and maintain a California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation security clearance. Home Inspector: Inspectors primarily complete residential home inspections, using proprietary inspection software, for homeowners and others involved in real estate transactions. Additional inspections include wood destroying organisms inspections, mold screenings and commercial inspections. The purpose of the inspection process is to provide clients with unbiased and non-threatening information they need as they make significant decisions regarding the condition of their existing or future home. Technician III Avian Point Count: This position assists the Tribe’s Wildlife and Environment Program personnel in the field of wildlife biology, primarily conducting avian point counts associated with proposed habitat restoration and monitoring. This is essentially a field position, with associated data entry and other office tasks. The position requires early-morning work and may require some weekend work. Survey sites are scattered throughout the lower-Klamath River watershed on tribal lands on and near the Yurok Indian Reservation. Travel times are typically 2-3 hours or more from Arcata; a secure campsite with facilities closer to the study area will be provided. A typical work day will involve an hour or so of travel time from the campsite to arrive at the day’s survey site at sunrise. Point counts will run for about four hours, after which the technician may be required to scout the next day’s site, analyze vegetation, do data entry, or perform other assigned tasks.
