CYBER SAFETY TIPS FOR PARENTS   To many parents it seems as though children and young people are constantly online. O en they seem to be com-ple ng more than one task at a me; for example, downloading and listening to music while studying and cha ng with friends or sending messages on their mobile phones. The number of hours children and young people spend online can vary significantly. There is no guideline for the ‘right’ amount of me for children to spend online, however if their online behaviour appears to impact nega vely on their behaviour or wellbeing, or that of the family, it may be me to discuss expecta ons and establish me limits. HOW MUCH IS TOO MUCH? No ceable changes in the online and offline behaviour of children and young people can be indicators of excessive internet use.  These include:   online ac vi es interfering with general health and wellbeing  seeming obsessed with par cular websites or games  appearing anxious or irritable when away from the computer  spending increasing amounts of  me online  excessive  redness  a decline in academic performance and  seeming isolated or withdrawn from offline friends and ac vi es.

Some of these indicators may be developmentally appropriate behaviours for young people, par cularly teens. Alterna vely, they may be indicators of other significant issues such as cyberbullying, friendship difficul es and mental health issues.   See more at:  h p://www.cybersmart.gov.au/Parents/Cyber%20issues/Excessive%20use.aspx#sthash.cwDK4xb6.dpuf

I went to Gumbuya Park. When I was looking at a peacock it tried to impress us. It was trying to get a girlfriend and that one did. That was the best one there. On the tractor ride we saw the door snake and a real tree python. It was fun but I am looking forward to experiencing the 3 to 6 camp next year. By Reghan Lewis On the first day we had marshmallows. Then we watched “Barn Yard”. The next day we went to Gumbuya Park. We had a lot of fun. It was exciting. By Mathew Underwood On the very first day of Day Camp we stayed at the school and we did activities. The activities were; painting Australian animals on bark, making photo frames, wood burning and kite making. I was in the bark activity first. I painted a Koala, it was purple, red, orange, blue and green stripped. The next day we went to Gumbuya Park. We travelled there by bus. It took longer than I thought it would. When we arrived at Gumbuya Park we had our fruit and recess. There was a park and heaps of rides. I went and saw lots of kinds of birds with Mrs Wogan-Browne and my group. I saw peacocks, turtles, lizards, kangaroos and next we went on a tractor ride. The next day of Day Camp we went to Waratah Bay and did fun things. When we got to Foster we went on the Rail Trail. At the beach we had lots of fun, but we didn’t get to go rock pooling because the tide was too far in. Day Camp was the best and I want to go there again. I also want to go to 3-6 camp. By Mackenzie Delaney

On the very first day we did spuds and we made a photo frame. On the second day we went to Gumbuya Park. There were lots of things to do. We did the animal park first and the tractor ride second. When we went on the tractor ride we saw a pretend door snake. In the animal park we saw lots of birds and lots of kangaroos. At the start we saw a lizard, a koala and a tiger quall. We missed the bats because we couldn’t find them until we were at the end. On the tractor ride we got a tiny bit wet but it was good because the other group got really wet. I hope we go back to Gumbuya Park again it was fantastic. By Scarlet Robson

Day Camp – At Day Camp we cooked potatoes, had some marshmallows and watched a movie. We went to Gumbuya Park and we saw a koala. Next we saw dingos. Then we got to play mini golf. It was then time to go on the tractor ride. We saw a door snake on the tractor ride. We saw wombat holes. We went and saw peacocks. Then it was time to go back on the bus. We got our show bags. On the way back I played “I Spy” with Holley. On Friday we went to Waratah Beach. At Waratah beach we played ‘tug of war, the girls and boys won ‘tug of war’. Then we collected shells. I can’t wait for Day Camp next year. By Chelsea Brown

On the very first day we were making photo frames and I decorated it with pencils and buttons. Then we were moved to the next activity group and made kites with paper, straws and string. We got to colour them in and we got to go and fly them on the beach. Then we ate our fruit while Jacob was reading a story book. Then we did wood burning and I got to have a go first around the letters and we had to draw a picture on paper first then draw it on the wood and burn it in. If you burnt your fingers you had to put them under cold water. I never got burnt. When we were bark painting Deacon got burnt. When we were making photo frames it was awesome and I really like it. By Jodie Allott Day Camp - I liked the white Dingo. I liked the tractor ride. I liked the mini golf. I liked the birds. They squeaked. I really liked the tractor ride and the humungous trees. It was fun and fantastic. By Charli Rees

Our next Newsletter will feature writing and photos from the 3-6 Prom Camp - stay tuned

It was fun at Day Camp. I really want to go again. On Wednesday we made kites to fly at the beach and we made picture frames too.

When we were making the kites they looked a little bit like a paper aeroplane so I tried to throw it. We did wood burning with hot tools. At Gumbuya Park we got to feed kangaroos and pat dingoes, but they were friendly. At Gumbuya Park we saw a koala and the koala climbing a tree. We also got to see a peacock put the feathers up. The birds there looked tremendous. We played mini golf at Gumbuya Park and we went to the Aboriginal Centre to see boomerangs and all sorts of Aboriginal things. We were split in two groups, one on the tractor ride and the others were looking at the animals and when the groups were finished we swapped. When it was my groups turn to look at the animals it started to rain and the other group had shelter but we didn’t so we got very wet. We had fun at mini golf. When we were up to our third hole, Jacob scratched a kangaroo’s neck and the kangaroo put it’s claws on Jacobs arm. At the beach we saw crabs that were smaller than my thumb. We did lots of fun things at the beach like collecting shells, having free time and lots more. At the beach we flew our kites but my string broke so I needed to use someone else’s kite, but it was still fun. I collected some really small shells and all the shells went into a plastic bag. I can’t wait until I go next year! By Jahnavi Venkatesan-Villa Day camp – My best part was seeing the baby kangaroos. Then I went for a tractor ride and on the tractor ride I saw some deer’s, but then I wanted to go home. It was fun. By Zayne Lewis Day Camp – I liked Day Camp. We went to Gumbuya Park and the beach. We walked the rail trail. At Gumbuya Park I saw the Aboriginal centre, the koalas, played mini golf and went on a tractor ride. It was fun. By Shai Rhodes Day Camp – At Day Camp I liked playing mini golf. I liked the kangaroos. I liked the animals. We went to the beach. At the beach we collected some shells. It was fun. By Sunday Plowright One day it was Day Camp. We went to Gumbuya Park, it was fun on the tractor ride. The show bag was good. The beach was fun. Next time I hope we do all this again. By Thomas Brown Day Camp – Beach, park, rail trail, Gumbuya Park. At Gumbuya Park I had a tractor ride. By Myunah Duroux Day Camp – I likes seeing the dingoes and kangaroos. I liked seeing the koalas. I liked going on the tractor ride. I loved it all, it was fun. By Tyler Underwood. At Gumbuya Park I played mini golf and got a “hole in one”. I got my ‘Hole in One’ on the last hole. I went on a tractor ride and I saw a wombat hole and a door snake. The next day we went on the rail trail, it was fun. I can’t wait for next year’s Day Camp. By Deacon Rees I liked Gumbuya Park. I got to feed a kangaroo and pat a kangaroo as well. I liked the fruit-bats, they eat fruit. I saw boomerangs and the lucky last activity was mini golf. It was fun. My ball got stuck, my ball colour was red. When it was stuck it came out and I got a ‘hole in one’ on the exit hole. I saw all the balls going in the exit hole, all the way to the very back. Day Camp was sensational. By Aaron Tanner

Day Camp – On Day Camp we did mini golf, it was fun. I also liked the tractor ride and feeding the kangaroos. Then we had lunch. Then I saw some animals and went to the toilet, then home. The next day we went to the beach and flew our kites, then collected some shells. Next it was lunchtime and we played at the park. We then went back to the beach ad got free time. I liked Day Camp. By Jai Allott I loved Day Camp. The best day at day camp was Gumbuya Park. Before I forget, I got to pat a dingo. I did not like the cockatoos - Squawk! Squawk! Squawk! That’s what they did, it was so loud. I saw a koala. Now let me tell you some facts. They sleep, they sleep, they sleep. They don’t like coming down to the ground. I got to feed and pat the kangaroos. Yippee! On the tractor ride I saw a door snake up in a tree and I saw a deer. I can’t wait for the next Day Camp, although we didn’t get to see the pythons. By Django Dyson Day Camp at Gumbuya Park – I liked Day Camp because we patted the dingos and the cockatoos screamed. I liked playing mini golf and I liked looking at the horses and looking at the koalas. I also saw white and green peacocks. By Maddison Delaney Day Camp – I liked the beach because we collected shells. The beach was fun because I got to fly my kite and make a sand castle. I liked Gumbuya Park because I had fun on the tractor ride. Gumbuya Park was good because I liked the Koala when it climbed the tree. We also played mini golf. In my group was Holley, Erin and I and I forgot the rest. By Tessa Whittle

Day Camp –We went to Gumbuya Park on the first day and the beach the next day. I saw a BIG bird at the front of Gumbuya Park. I went on a tractor ride and we saw the tiger quolls and the kangaroos. We got to feed them. I built a sand castle with Scarlet and Jahnavi and we flew our kites. I can’t wait for Day Camp next year. On camp I collected shells off the beach and played near the waves. By Holley Rip Day Camp – I went to the beach and we got to fly our kites. We made a sandcastle. We played football and we saw some crabs. We collected some shells. By Tannah Benton
