Mind Map for class
After returning from Tea Ceremony, Mr. Norihito Ito (Meijo University Senior
High School) gave a lecture, “Mind Map and its effect on education”. He said, “We
teach how to draw a Mind Map to the freshmen in our school to develop their
abilities.”
Soon after the guidance of
competition, everyone started to work on
making hovercrafts with serious
expression. Each room was so quiet
because participants concentrated on the
works.
The first student who finished
making hovercrafts was Putrie Rizki from
Center for Young Scientists (Indonesia) at
3:30. Much cooperation in groups can be
seen everywhere.
friction would occur. It is the waste of
energy. And I moved the position of the
center of gravity to the fan. It is so
important to divide the works into each
part of producing hovercrafts.”
The runner-up was Lee, Shu Mei
from National Taichung First Senior
High School (Taiwan). She said, “I had
made rudder for air to adjust the way a
hovercraft goes.” It is amazing for us to
know that she had come up with those
ideas by herself.
The 3rd prize went to Takise
Kishimoto from Ritsumeikan High
School. He said, “I made an effort to
communicate with my partners as much
as I could. I just talked and talked and
talked. I made my hovercraft stable.”
Teacher’s Sessions In my school case…
While students were working for competition, teachers
shared opinions by teacher ’s sessions, “Case studies of
participating Schools”. Teachers introduced approaches to
improve education of science.
How about Japanese tea?
After Lunch, the teachers moved to Yusho-ji Temple,
participating in the Welcome Tea Ceremony. At first, they tried
Tsukubai, washing hands and mouth. In a tea-ceremony room,
they enjoyed Japanese sweets and tea with explanation by the
tea ceremony club. Responded to the polite manners, teachers
bowed with favor to the club members.

Secrets of strength
We interviewed prizewinners for how
they could make such fast hovercrafts.
The champion was Yutaro Kurosawa
from Waseda University Honjo Senior
High School. He said, “I focused on the
position of the center of gravity. Because
the larger area was pressured, the bigger
friction would occur. It is the waste of
energy. And I move the position of the
center of gravity to the fan.” He was asked
of his group’s cooperation, and answered,
“It is so important to divide the works into
each part of producing hover crafts.”
