In-Place (PIP) Insulation System and you’ll see a core of energyefficient Dow brand STYROFOAM polystyrene insulation sand-wiched between two layers of concrete – all joined together by ourpatented high strength fiber composite connectors, resulting in awall system that provides unparalleled energy efficiency anduncompromised moisture resistance.

The rigid foam insulation used with the THERMOMASS® PIPInsulation System is specially engineered with pre-installed snaplock assemblies to accommodate the fiber composite connectorrods, which are inserted at the building site. The non-conductive,chemically resistant material, allows for an uninterrupted envelopeof insulation throughout the walls of the structure. This creates ahighly energy efficient wall insulation system.

Walls built with the THERMOMASS® PIP Insulation Systemcomprise a mass wall system with an overall R-value that is sub-stantially enhanced. This is largely due to the high mass of con-crete, which can store significant amounts of thermal energy anddelay heat transfer.

The ability of concrete to store energy anddampen the effect of temperature changeon heating and cooling systems is knownas the ““TThheerrmmaall MMaassss EEffffeecctt..”” Due to themass effect created by the THERMO-MASS® Building Insulation System theperformance R-value of the system canbe two to three times greater than that of

the material R-value, resulting in energycost savings up to or exceeding 50%.One way that the THERMOMASS® insula-tion system helps the owner save moneyis in heating and cooling costs. Becausethe THERMOMASS® insulated walls havean excellent thermal storage capacity,buildings using them have a reduced totalload requirement and can take advan-tage of off peak energy pricing, allow-ing them to reduce the cost of energyby as much as 50% or more. With the THERMOMASS® PIP Insulation System, installingan integrally insulated poured-in-place basement is a fastand easy process. Any type of standard forms can be used,enabling the contractor to maximize his one-time capitalinvestment. Plus, builders can employ standard buildingpractices, helping to ensure consistent quality in the finalproduct.

Conventional forms are set.THERMOMASS® PIPInsulation is installed. Theyare closed and then braced.

Fiber-composite connectorrods are inserted throughpre-installed spool assembliesin the rigid foam insulation.The insulation panels are putinto position in the forms.

Connectors with 120,000 psitensil strength hold the insu-lation in the proper positionfor pouring and structurallytie the two layers of concretetogether.

Concrete is poured into theform. The concrete consoli-dates around the connectorrods and insulation, creatinga sandwich wall. After theconcrete has cured, theforms are removed.
