From the Office May Board Meeting Summary Last Monday, the Board of Trustees held its May meeting. Mr. Webb and Mrs. Reeves were the teacher representatives at the meeting, and they shared the highlights of their year at SJCS—along with good sugges- tions for ways in which we can improve for the future. Once the teachers were dis- missed, the trustees began their strategic discussion on the topic of Mission Penetra- tion. This term refers to the degree to which a school community understands and em- braces the mission of the school, and the board talked about continuing to look for opportunities to tell our mission “story” in a compelling way and to help our teachers, students, families, and supporters do the same. The board is working its way through a series of key definitions like Mission Pene- tration that will then become dashboard indicators of success for us in our next stra- tegic plan. That strategic planning process will begin during the fall of 2013. The remainder of the meeting covered top- ics like enrollment for 2013-14, staffing status for next year, a recap of the auction, and the board’s duties for the 8 th grade graduation ceremony. Next month’s board meeting will mark the end of the terms for trustees Dan Miller and John McKie. If you have the chance to thank them for their work over the past three years, please take the time to do so. 2012-2013 Satisfaction Survey Today you will be receiving an invitation to participate in the 2012-2013 satisfaction survey. Your response to the survey is valuable in the improvements at SJCS. Please take time to complete the survey, giving examples and personal responses when possible. Campus Preparation for 2013-2014 Traditionally we have reserved one day at the end of the summer to prepare the campus and classrooms for the next school year. The participation at this event has decreased, and we are exploring new ideas on how to ready the campus for the 2013-2014 school year. Take a look at your summer calendar and reserve some time for SJCS. We will be sending addi- tional information and requesting your help via email. Teacher & Staff AppreciationRoom parents have sent out a letter and/or email regarding end of year group giftcollections for your child's teacher, aide, and adopted staff. Our teachers have allworked so hard this year to teach and train our children in a Christian way, and they certainly deserve our appreciation. This is simply a reminder that if you are able to make a contribution, there is still time. Just take it to the office in an envelope marked with your child's class on it. No amount is too small, and the teachers will be very thankful.

Mentor FamiliesSJCS is pleased to offer a program known as Mentor Families in which current SJCS families are matched up with families that are new to our school. Mentor families are available to welcome new families and answer their questions as they navigate through their first year at SJCS. Please con-sider the impact you could have as a Men-tor Family for the 2013-3014 school year. Attached to the Tiger Tracks is a flyer with additional information. If you have any

questions, please contact Deb Steele, Men-tor Family Coordinator, or Betsy Phillips in the school office.
