Love & Logic Classes ComingThis year, one of our PLC’s has been working to become trainers for Love and Logic, a parenting and classroom management approach that helps children become responsible decisions makers and allows parents to stay calm and set enforceable limits for their kids. Please see the attachment to the Tiger Tracks today for more information about how to sign up for a 6-week course from our teachers. The course is FREE and starts on Monday 3/17.
The Facilities Committee Needs Your HelpDo you have spring fever? Have a little time to spare for outdoor SJCS improvements? We are in need of volunteers to help with painting, pressure washing, gutter cleaning, hauling tan bark and possibly more. We’d love your help. Snacks or lunch will be included, of course! Come beautify your favorite school! Contact Betsy Lindemulder ([email protected]) or Mary Schrotenboer ([email protected]) for details.
Pick Up Scrip This WeekScrip orders should be available for pickup in the office by Wednesday or Thursday.
Boxtops ResultsThanks to everyone for your help in bringing in 2,000 Boxtops during the month of February. Congratulations to the Kindergarten class and their winning total of 470! They will receive a Jamba Juice party. Proceeds from Boxtops fundraisers support our curb appeal fund and help purchase flowers, bark, and other supplies that make our campus look great!
2014 Auction NeedsIn planning for this year’s SJCS Auction on April 12, the committee has identified a need for restaurant donations. Gift cards to restaurants make a nice way to finish off a gift basket or serve as a prize for one of the drawings. If you have unused gift cards at home or would be willing to purchase and donate gift cards for the event, you can drop them by the office or contact Betsy Phillips ([email protected]) or Laura Veenstra ([email protected]).
Yearbook UpdatesRemember to get online and order your 2013-14 SJCS yearbooks. In each book, you are allowed customizable pages for your child. If you have any pictures of multiple students, school events, or field trips please send them to Beverly Singh ([email protected]) who assembles the book.
IXL ResultsThe winning class will be shaving Mr. Webb’s head on Friday. The final standings should be out soon.

Volunteer Dinner Thanks to all of the volunteers who came out to our recognition dinner on Friday night. People had a great time sharing a meal and celebrating the SJCS community.
The entertainment for the evening was an SJCS-themed Jeopardy game in which the tables competed against each other. After answering questions in the categories of staff trivia, Bible trivia, family films, states and capitals, and potpourri, one
team emerged victorious. Congratulations to: Curt & Heidi Sacks, Jonathan and Allison Fung, Thoa Charkowsky, Angie Furlong, Jenifer Pavlina, and Judy Seps. Way to go team 5!
Tiger TracksTeacher Tales
Check this section each week for exciting stories of teachers doing great things in the classrooms of San Jose Christian School.
Certain days and certain activities stand out for our students and teachers alike. Last week, our 5th - 8th graders experienced a chapel that focused on how we can make a difference in this world for people in need. That topic dovetailed well with the work Mrs. Nibbelink was doing with her 5th grade class. As a result, the students launched a project, and here’s the communication Mrs. Nibbelink shared with their families:
Today was the kind of day that reminds me of why I love teaching, but more specifically why I love teaching YOUR children in THIS Christian school. We have been talking a lot about giving to the needy in our agriculture and forestry unit in science, and have been reminded about what Jesus said in the Bible. Remember the homework assignment to talk with your child?
Today in chapel, we had a speaker come and talk about that very subject, and your kids were moved by the Holy Spirit to make a difference in this world. They decided that we would like to collect money to buy 5 ducks, 4 chickens, and 13 small farm animals. There are many things that we have discussed through this project. Here are a few of the topics:
Discernment: What organization do we want to give to? We decided to go with World Vision because it is a Christian organization that gives most of the donated money to the needy. It also gave us a variety of options to purchase.
Sacrifice and Service: In tying this with Lent, we are going to try raising our money through sacrifice and service. We talked about things we could give up like a soda while going out to dinner, ice cream for desert, etc. Instead we are going to take that money and give it to our cause. Also, instead of just asking our parents for money, we would like to earn it through activities like emptying the dishwasher or helping with laundry.
Budgeting: What is a realistic goal for us and what can we get with this money? We decided that $200 is a great goal (about $10 a student). Our items listed above come out to $199.
Overall, I was humbled by the love the students are showing for those in need. Thank you for partnering with us during this Lenten season. Our project is ending on April 17.
Girls VolleyballThe girls volleyball team has been impressive this year. They had their first loss of the season last week in three tough games to Campbell Christian, but they hold a 3-1 record overall. This is a big week for the lady Tigers, facing Los Gatos Christian twice. Those games will have a major impact on the final league standings. Check the times and locations of the matches below, and come out to support our girls!
Boys SoccerSJCS 5 Baymonte 4This was a rough and physical game, and the boys were able to keep their composure, never giving up the lead. Josh, Joe, and BJ had a goal a piece while dealing with most of the physical play from the other team. Atheer also had two goals to help maintain our lead.
LGCS 4 SJCS 3Ryan dubbed this game “The Mud Cup” before it started, and he was right. It was a rainy and messy game, but the boys handled the conditions well. LGCS jumped out to a big lead in the first half, leaving the Tigers down 3-0. The second half was a different story though. Josh had a goal, and Atheer had two. It seemed the Tigers would be heading to a shootout, but after giving up one more goal in the second half, the Tigers ran out of time. This week, we have a chance at redemption when we take on Los Gatos at home.
SJCS 7 Campbell Christian 4This was the second time we faced Campbell. We gave up a few ugly goals from miscommunication, but the offense was looking sharp with every ball they brought up. Atheer had a goal, and an assist, and Josh had two more goals. BJ had another goal, and Joe was the hat-trick hero with three. This burst of offense wouldn't be possible without the transition game of our defense and midfielders. It was a great team win.
