Student Council Inspired by WE Day

Last Wednesday (March 26), Ms. Schibsted took the Student Council to WE Day California at Oracle Arena in Oakland. WE Day is an initiative of Free The Children, an organization dedicated to freeing children caught in the web of human trafficking all around the world. WE Day is a movement encouraging the youth of our world to stand up and make a difference, not just by ourselves, but together. It’s a day where over twenty inspirational speakers and performers encourage students to “be the change you wish to see in the world,” a quote made famous by Mahatma Ghandi.

Craig Keilburger, founder of We Day and Free The Children, echoes these sentiments and created the event to engage students and develop their passion for service. Some of the speakers who attended the event in Oakland were Orlando Bloom, Laila Ali, Selena Gomez, Clemantine Wamariya, Evanna Lynch, Magic Johnson, and Spencer West.

“It was amazing to see students our own age doing huge things and making a difference. Seeing them empowered us to change the world as well,” said Student Council member, Milan Brito. “Adults told us to keep pursuing our dreams and actually believed that we can do something.” All in all, WE Day was a great experience for students, and they can’t wait to go again next year.

Association Membership - Information

A logical question one might ask is: “Why should I want to be a member of the San Jose Christian School Association?” The answer to this question lies in an understanding of what the Association is and an understanding of how your membership serves the school.

What is the Association?

The Association is the official governing body of our parent-organized Christian school. It began with a group of Reformed Christians who wanted to establish a Christian school built upon the infallible written Word of God as interpreted by the Reformed creedal standards. These people formed an association, formulated a constitution, and began the process which has resulted in the existence of San Jose Christian School.

How Will My Membership Benefit the School?

You have been given opportunity to participate in the financial support of the school through church offerings and financial drives. Your generous support in these ways is certainly appreciated. In addition to providing financial support, you also can have a voice in decisions relating to the future of the school and Christian education in our area. Association membership provides the opportunity to: • Nominate and elect board members • Vote on proposed constitution/by-law changes • Initiate action on issues concerning the school • Influence the future direction of the school • Vote on budget issues

Why Should I Be an Association Member When I Don’t Have a Child in the School?

As Reformed Christians, we believe that parents are primarily responsible for the training and nurture of their children. However, we also believe that the broader Christian community shares a responsibility for all of our covenant children. You hear news about San Jose Christian School through bulletin announcements, the Newsletter, the weekly Tiger Tracks, and through parents, teachers, and students. Perhaps you have thought to yourself, “Why did the school do that?” or “Why don’t they do this?” Association membership provides you with the opportunity to influence the school and with an avenue to ask and receive answers to your questions.

How Do I Become a Member?

Read and sign the membership application form on the other side of this sheet and send it to the school office along with your $10.00 per person annual membership dues. Don’t put it off. Become a member of the San Jose Christian School Association today!
