In about two weeks the SJCS Association will be voting on a provision to make membership in the SJCS Association “automatic” for parents who have completed the enrollment process. Any parent responsible for tuition who has signed the enrollment contract and expressed personal agreement with Articles II and III of the SJCS Constitution, would become an Association member. ARTICLE II—PURPOSE states “The purpose of this association is, in cooperation with the home, to teach the children that which is in agreement with Article III and is necessary that they, as children of God, may occupy their places worthily in church, state, and society. To this end we establish, maintain, and control a school(s) for Christian instruction.” ARTICLE III—BASIS states “The basis of this association is the infallible written Word of God as interpreted by the reformed standards.” Why is this important? One of our stated Core Values is “Intentional Christian Community.” The Board believes that an important part of building our learning community is our parents having a sense of ownership of the school. While some current parents have joined the Association, the Board believes that a streamlined membership process would encourage more parents to take active roles in the governing of the school. This month the SJCS Board of Trustees is recommending a change to the SJCS Constitution.

To this end we establish, maintain, and control a school(s) for Christian instruction.” ARTICLE III—BASIS states “The basis of this association is the infallible written Word of God as interpreted by the reformed standards.”

Why is this important? One of our stated Core Values is “Intentional Christian Community.” The Board believes that an important part of building our learning community is our parents having a sense of ownership of the school. While some current parents have joined the Association, the Board believes that a streamlined membership process would encourage more parents to take active roles in the governing of the school.

Teacher Tales Spotlight on Betsy Phillips | by: Dave Intlekofer Check this section each week for exciting stories about teachers doing great things on the campus of San Jose Christian School.

What a fantastic GrandFriends Day on Friday! The amount of work and planning that go into our community events is extensive, and there is always someone behind the scenes making sure that everything goes smoothly: Betsy Phillips. Betsy never likes to take credit for her amazing work, but that doesn’t mean we can’t thank her anyway!

As Director of Community Development, Betsy plays a huge role in all of our wonderful school events, such as the auction, open houses, community picnics, Walk-a-Thon, and fine arts performances. Although she is not a classroom teacher, her work positively affects each classroom and every aspect of our school. Betsy is usually the last person to leave campus, and she is often here working late into the evenings to make sure that the rest of the community has the best experience possible. It is this heart of dedication and service that makes Betsy a wonderful person to work with, both for staff and families.

One of the things I most appreciate about Betsy is her passion for SJCS and its community. Few people better exemplify what makes this community so special. Whether she is teaching a new family about what makes SJCS unique or receiving visits from students coming to say hi to “Aunt B,” Betsy always finds time to talk and bring a smile to people’s faces. She is the perfect example of our mission to partner with families.

I am sure I speak for the whole community when I say: Thank you, Betsy, for all that you do!
