From the Office Christmas Concert Success Those in attendance on Friday night in the packed sanctuary of San Jose Christian Re- formed Church were treated to another out- standing Christmas concert from the SJCS music program. Students in the 5 th Grade Band, 6 th Grade Band, 7 th /8 th Grade Band, Jazz Band, and Choir shared many different Christmas songs with the audience, and their efforts were a wonderful way to kick off the Advent season. A special thanks goes out to Mrs. Baham and Mrs. Fiske for their work to prepare the students. SJCS Principal Search Update Since late summer, our principal search consultant has been working to advertise our principal position, build a candidate roster, perform background checks, and narrow the list to people who would be a strong fit for SJCS. We have culled the list to our finalists, and the Search Committee will be meeting on Tuesday night to share thoughts about these candidates and set up times for conference calls and continuing discussion. The goal is to have our position filled by the end of January at the latest, and the principal would be starting his/her term in July of 2013. Please pray for the committee and our candidates in the weeks ahead as we determine the best fit for our school. Fan the Flame Today we kick off our annual financial drive, and the theme is Fan the Flame. This year, SJCS has made significant invest- ments in teacher development, school im- provement, and tuition assistance. Those investments are having a substantially posi- tive impact on the quality of our school, and we want that improvement to con- tinue. We want programs to grow and flourish. We want to build positive mo- mentum. We want to fan the flame. To watch an introductory video about this year’s drive, visit http://vimeo.com/sjchristian/drive . With your help, we will reach our $100,000 goal and continue to strengthen the educa- tion that SJCS has to offer. Please prayer- fully consider how you can contribute, and look for further information in your email inbox soon. The January Series Is Coming Each year, SJCS serves as a remote webcast location for the Calvin College January Series of lectures. Billed as a free liberal arts education, the January Series features leading speakers in fields like media, poli- tics, religion, education, and social justice. Each lecture lasts about 40 minutes with time for questions and answers afterward. The January Series will be showing in the SJCS auditorium on weekdays at 9:30am from January 7 – 23. We hope to see you there! For more information on speakers and topics, visit the SJCS office or go to http://www.calvin.edu/january/2013/ . School News A Commitment to Serve One of the hallmarks of education at SJCS is instilling a commitment to serve in our young people. As Christians, our faith in God needs to produce fruit in the way that we live, and caring for others is a big part of that. As you consider the snapshot of our students’ current service activities below, pray for the Lord to provide opportunities for your own family to serve others as well: • Preschool – 4 th graders are bringing in bedding to help the San Jose Family Shelter restock its linen closet for Christmas (see the attachment for more details). • The 3 rd grade class will be writing letters to shut-ins in the weeks ahead. • 5 th grade students assemble and distribute Christmas gift bags for the families whose homes border SJCS. • 7 th grade will be working at Sacred Heart Community Service on January 10. • The Choir is singing at the Campbell Chamber of Commerce Toy Drive on De- cember 6. Rainy Day Pickup Procedures It’s that time of year when it becomes more likely that we will have rainy weather dur- ing pick up time after school. If this is the case, students will still be picked up in the same general areas of campus, but they will be walked out to your car from under the covered walkway. Please continue to pull as far forward as possible to help us allevi- ate traffic backup. S J C S T I G E R T R A C K S SJCS - 1300 Sheffield Avenue, Campbell, California 95008 (408)371-7741

SJCS Choir to Serve the City of CampbellThe Campbell Chamber of Commerce works every year to raise money and do-nated toys for the less fortunate children of Campbell and surrounding areas. This year, their efforts will culminate in a benefit night at Nordahl Hall in Los Gatos, and the Chamber has asked the SJCS Choir to per-form at the event. We are excited to serve our community and share the love of Christ in this way, and we look forward to partici-pating. The benefit night is scheduled for Thursday, December 6 from 5pm – 8pm. Our choir will be singing between 6pm - 7pm.

Sports NewsGirls Basketball The girls basketball team is off to a great start.  We had two games last week.  We played Legacy Christian on Tuesday and won 40 - 5!  The girls played great, and it was fun to see so many players score bas-kets.  On Friday, we played Los Gatos and lost.  The girls played hard and had some great plays.  This week we have three games. We play Achiever twice and then

Liberty.

Boys Basketball SJCS 39 | Legacy 26The Tigers tipped off the season with a great win against a team that beat us twice last year. Alfred B. was dominant with 14 points, and the only player that could stop him was himself. He got in foul trouble late but was able keep from fouling out. Isaiah R. had to shake off a few first game jitters too but was huge for the Tigers all day, keeping the tempo up and really forcing the defense to double team him the whole sec-ond half. Nick M. made 1 of 2 free throws in the third. Calvin F. scored a layup that was pretty huge as Legacy was coming back. David W. also helped seal the game with a solid 10 points. Michael R. made a great shot in the 4th that made the bench go crazy. Ryan M. and Gabe L. also had some good looks at the basket but came up a little short. This was a great team win with everyone healthy playing!

LGCS 27 | SJCS 24The Tigers lost their first game against Los Gatos to even their record at 1-1. The Tigers were missing 3 starters but were able to keep the game close. Alfred B. had 14 points and could have had even more. Dy-lan H. added a good layup, and Calvin F. had 2 key buckets. David W. finished the game with 4 points. I’m really proud of the boys who were part of Christmas concert. They were able to juggle practices, lessons, games and rehearsals. Then they went to the concert and really won. It was a great performance.

Sports FeesIf your student is participating on one of the basketball teams, please pay your $40 par-ticipation fee by the end of the week.
