MCC RECEIVES CHECK FROM NPPD Mid-Plains Community College received a check for $16,000 from the Nebraska Public Power District on Wednesday evening. Bill Hoyt, member of the NPPD Board of Directors, and Misty Robertson, market president at Wells Fargo Bank, made the pres- entation during a MPCC Board of Governors meeting. The funds were raised during the Wells Fargo Nebraska Open golf tourna- ment in Columbus in September. The money will be split equally between McCook Community College and North Platte Community College and used for scholarships for students pursuing careers in the engineering and electrical fields. The Wells Fargo Nebraska Open is endorsed and operated by the Nebraska Section of the PGA and the Nebraska Golf Association and is coordinated by NPPD. Proceeds are donated to the Nebraska Community College Foundation, which awards scholarships to hundreds of Nebraska students attending five community colleges in the state. Since its inception in 1992, the event has raised a total of $1,497,571 for community college students in NPPD’s service area. The total re- ceived by MPCC over the life of the tournament has been $298,510. DISCIPLINARY MEASURES TAKEN Disciplinary measures have been taken against seven members of the Nebraska State Patrol at the conclusion of an internal investi- gation. Investigations of the conduct of the patrol began after the Omaha World-Herald published articles on two incidents last year. In one, a trooper used a controversial maneuver to side- swipe a fleeing vehicle during a high-speed chase, causing the car to crash, killing the suspect. In another, a trooper struck a drunk suspect with a rifle butt. One trooper has been fired. A Lt. Colonel took early retirement. A sergeant resigned. Four others have been disciplined. A major has been busted to captain. A captain has been demoted to sergeant. One other trooper and another ser- geant have been disciplined, but retain their rank. The incidents took place while Col. Brad Rice was superintendent of NSP. Super- intendent John Bolduc declines to name the NSP members or detail the reasons for the discipline. “Well, that would get to the conclu- sions that are contained within the case file and I’m prohibited by confidentiality; none of the employees involved have waived their confidentiality rights,” Bolduc tells reporters during a news confer- ence at the Nebraska State Patrol headquarters in Lincoln. ON THIS DAY

1937 - Walt Disney de-buted the first, full-

length, animated feature in Hollywood, CA. The

movie was "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs."

Two McCook Bison signed letters of intent yesterday. MHS senior Gabe Vielma signed to play golf at McCook Community College while Zach Schlager signed to foot-ball at Colorado State. So when the family moved to McCook before the start of his junior year in high school, Vielma decided take up golf competitively. With his mother from McCook, the family spent summers in McCook so golf was always a part of their summers. Less than a year from the time when golf courses were not a safe place to be, Vielma participated at Ogallala, shot an 82, and tied for 10th place in the always com-petitive Class B4 district to qualify for state. Schlager, expected to be an outside linebacker, will follow in his brother footsteps at CSU. Jake Schlager finished up his senior season with their recent bowl game. Nebraska received nine letters of intent for their 2018 class on Wednesday. There’ll be at least a couple more announcements this week. More than 20 signees are expected to be a part of the Huskers’ class by National Signing Day on Feb. 7, 2018. “One thing we weren’t go-ing to do is just sign kids to fill spots,” head coach Scott Frost said during a teleconference on Wednesday after-noon. “We want kids that we know can come be good people and become good football players. We have a lot of work left to do here in January, but I’m excited about the guys that are on board.”
