Slide 2 Slide 3 This program was inspired by this book, which is a true story about Chris McCandless. McCandless abandoned his belongings and traveled across North America by hiking, riding the train, canoeing, and walking. He wanted to travel with the least amount of possessions that he could. He simply wanted to travel and dreamed of an Alaskan adventure. He ended up in Fairbanks, Alaska in April of 1992. Four months later he passed away from starvation and poison from eating potato seeds. His life and journey were documented in the 1996 book, written by Jon Krakauer, and the 2007 film, by Sean Penn (Read, 2011). This type of cord was originally used in parachute suspension lines during World War II. The cord is extremely elastic and able to hold an enormous amount of weight, making it very useful in an emergency situation (Pandit, 2010). Slide 6 Slide 7 (Sorry these are sideways!
