William J. Reilly “May the Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting encouragement and good hope through his grace, encourage your hearts and strengthen them in every good deed and word.” How many greeting cards we have sent, how many more have we received. All have some kind of a wish, a message of comfort and sorrow when sickness or death occurs, or congratulations on a birth, birthday or graduation. The card means a lot, and sometimes the message is overlooked. As always we say ‘it’s the thought that counts.’ Paul’s message to his friends contains so much; we might glide past it and miss the point of the sacred scriptures. He reminds us we are loved by God, our Father, and Jesus our Brother, who offer us encouragement and hope through grace, God’s very life. The fruit of that love is found in the gift of encouragement and the strength that comes from His grace, reflected in the good we say and do. In the ‘Joy of Love’ Pope Francis inspires us to live that grace, first in our family. Where it is absent, introduce it. Where it is real, celebrate it and strengthen it. UNA FRESCA PERSPECTIVA DE LAS LECTURAS DOMINICALES

SU PALABRA HOY por el Reverendo William J. Reilly

“Que nuestro Señor Jesucristo y Dios, nuestro Padre, que nos amó y nos dio gratuitamente un consuelo eterno y una feliz esperanza, los reconforte y fortalezca en toda obra y en toda palabra buena.” Hemos enviado muchas tarjetas de felicitación y hemos recibido tantas más. Todas tienen algún deseo, un mensaje para reconfortar, sentimiento de pena en enfermedad o muerte, o felicitaciones por un nacimiento, cumpleaños o graduación. La tarjeta significa mucho, y a veces no se pone atención al mensaje. Como decimos: ‘es la intención lo que cuenta’. El mensaje de San Pablo a sus amigos contiene tanto, que pudiésemos no verlo y no darnos cuenta de la intención de las sagradas escrituras. Nos recuerda que somos amados por Dios, nuestro padre, y por Jesús, nuestro Hermano, quien nos ofrece aliento y esperanza por medio de su gracia, la vida de Dios. El fruto de ese amor se encuentra en el don del aliento y fortaleza que viene de Su gracia, reflejada en el bien que decimos y hacemos. En su ‘Alegría del Amor’, el Papa Francisco nos inspira a vivir en esa gracia, primero en nuestra familia. Si está ausente, traígala. En donde es real, celébrela y fortalézcala. En donde sabemos que es necesitada, llévela a otros.
