Allusion

• An allusion is a reference to another work of literature or to a historic person or event, usually as a comparison.

• What is the author’s intent in making the allusion to manna from heaven in the Torah?

• (The Torah is the Jewish name for the first five books of the Old Testament.)

• A foil is a character who demonstrates a contrast to the main character of a story. Usually a foil has something in common with the protagonist, but the foil’s actions are much different or even opposite of those of the protagonist.
