LAST MEETING
Guest SpeakerLast Week
Our guest speaker last week was TimSchuler, our very own District Governor.Tim has been a member of the SeminoleLake Rotary Club for 27 years. He has beennamed Rotarian of the Year twice, and hasalso served as secretary and presidenttwice. He is so ac-tive in the commu-nity that people callhim Mr. Seminole. He can’t share thisnewsletter with any-one because he said, but would deny say-ing it, that our club isthe “Best large club
that he has in this district. . . best programs, fundraising, International Giving.”
Okay, we started out with an hourmeeting with Tim before our regular meet-ing and he said the same thing. Also sayingthat he would deny saying this. We are agreat club, and Rotary needs more mem-bership – just not in our club. We havegotten so big that we are losing the per-sonal friendships that are a very importantpart of Rotary. The growing of clubs is notone that our club has a problem with. Timunderstands that as well as all that we doin the community. His speech is one thatis prepared for clubs that are smaller, having a harder time keeping their mem-bership up, and having trouble with theirfundraisers.
He did have a lot of information toshare with us though. One of the things hetold us about was how, if you wear yourRotary pin, wherever you go, any where inthe world, you will have instant credibility, because you are a Rotarian. He also asked,“What would the world be without Ro-tary?” Polio (how many people would ithave affected by now), literacy and theprograms we help out with, and friends.Just being part of Rotary has gained usmany friendships.
Tim said that the goal for this year is toincrease awareness of Rotary by our clubmembers. Believe in it and we can make itgrow. Their other goals are to increaseand maintain membership (not a problemfor our club) and increase giving to theRotary Foundation. Our club has made thatvery easy to do. You are billed for yourquarterly expenses and included in that isa $25 bill for annual giving. Most of our clubdoes that. If you aren’t already doing that, please think about it and all the people ithelps.
Tim also spoke about the upcomingDistrict Conference, May 30-31, 2008. Theychanged it from Mother’s Day weekend tothe last weekend in the month. It is not onlyan informational weekend, but it’s a lot offun. Mark your calendars and plan to attend.Tim Schuler
Tim ended the program with sayingthat each and every individual of Rotaryhas something to give. His philosophy is“Effective education and training, com-bined with fun, fellowship and service op-portunities make Rotarians out of clubmembers.”
We would like to thank Tim for sharingwhat Rotary is all about.
Golf TournamentThe New Port Richey Rotary Club an-
nual Golf Tournament is today, at MeadowOaks, immediately following our lunch atthe Spartan. Chairing the event are AndyPadova, Ron Padova and John Brasher. Itried getting some info from Ron about someof the fun things they are planning, but hewas pretty close-lipped about it. He saidthat if you didn’t sign up, you’re going tomiss out on a lot of fun! So, if you didn’t signup, but want to play, let them know. There’salways someone who signed up and can’tmake it, so you could fill in! They’ll be somegreat pics next week, and I’m sure you allwant to know what type of golf shoes CraigMcCart will show up in this year!
Alzheimer’s BenefitIt was announced that the Alzheimer’s
Poker Tournament held last weekend raisedaround $22,000! Congratulations to all thosein our club who helped out and especiallyto Nancy Britton who co-chaired the eventwith Sandy Brown. It was a fun evening forall present.
Poker TournamentThe third annual Poker Tournament,
hosted by Prudential Tropical Realty, isbeing held October 5th at the Hard RockHotel and Casino. The entry cost is $125and they are trying to set up a bus or limoride from here. If you are interested inbeing a part of this please contact SteveBooth.
