Dallas Berry – Term expires 2008 Dave Hakola – Term expires 2010 Blair Surber – Term expires 2012 Registration Certificates: This certifies that the 2008 Virginia State Trapshoot, Hall of Fame Trapshoot and the VTA Grand Old Dominion have been registered with and are authorized by the Amateur Trapshooting Association. All events will be governed by the rules of this association and all scores will be included in the official records. Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame, Inc. Thanks to the current leadership of the VTA, we have achieved tax-exempt status, as defined under section 501©(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, for the Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame, Inc. (VTHOF). This tax-exempt status will allow donors to contribute real property and personal property as well as liquid assets with corresponding tax deductions. Now that we can begin to make the VTHOF a success, we would like to hear your thoughts and ideas as how we can best achieve our goals. This is a new and unique opportunity to further shooting sports and promote shooting activities for younger generations. We need to look ahead and consider what we want to accomplish through the VTHOF. We would very much like to hear from you in this regard. Some suggestions made in the past are: expansion of the Winchester Gun Club, new traps, additional trap fields, youth education and safety programs, and scholarship programs. What are your suggestions? Please provide your input to Robert S. Igou, 16011 Tiffany Lane, Haymarket, VA 20169 ([email protected]). Your ideas will be considered and much appreciated.

GENERAL SHOOT INFORMATION The Virginia State Shoot will be held at the VTA Homegrounds, Winchester Gun Club, Stephenson, VA. The Virginia Trapshooting Association, Inc. (VTA) will have full responsibility for conducting this shoot. The VTA and the Winchester Gun Club are not responsible for accidents or injuries on the Winchester Gun Club grounds. All current ATA and VTA rules and regulations will be enforced. The VTA reserves the right to refuse or reject any entry. The VTA also reserves the right to change the program for any reason. No entry fee options will be refunded unless event is cancelled. Daily fees are $5 - $$3 to VTA and $2 to ATA. On the first day of the shoot, you can only sign up in the morning for that day; sign up for the remaining shoot program can be done that afternoon. All state shoot targets will be shot 50/50 on 6 banks, 2 traps per bank. All handicap and 16-yard targets will be shot 5 per station except doubles which will be shot on 8 banks, one trap per bank. However, two boxes of shells are to be taken to the line. After the first 25 targets are shot, the second 25 will immediately follow in rotation. This will complete the first 50 targets without anyone leaving the firing line. Any shooter leaving the line for shells will have to make up the second 25 targets on the practice trap. If a shooter misses his/her squad and the squad has started shooting, the entire 50 targets will have to be made up on the practice trap. Banks 1 thru 6 will each have two traps. The six banks will be randomly assigned a bank number about a half-hour prior to the start of each event; example: A numbered “pill” (numbered 1 to 6) will be drawn. If the “pill” drawn is number 5, then squad one will start on bank 5, squad 2 will start on bank 6, and squad 3 will start on bank 1, etc. It was decided that shooters are mature enough to follow an established procedure and should not need enforcement. However, the squad leader (post one) has the responsibility to keep the squad moving through the 50 targets in an unbroken sequence and in a timely fashion. Shootoffs will be carried over to the next day when permitted. Squads may be reassigned different fields because of broken traps or other delays at the discretion of management. Middle 50’s – If no winner, carried to next day; if no winner last day, high score wins. We will have special events and rolling jackpots. All purses are % purses. The two practice traps will be the last two traps at the end of the firing line. There is sufficient parking at that location with an access road. The first two traps (old practice traps) will be the first bank of program traps. Cost is $2 for 10 targets and $4 for 25 targets.

GMC Pro-Grade Challenge - This year we will again have the GMC Pro-Grade Challenge sponsored by Kern Motors of Winchester. For each event you participate in, you will receive an entry to win a 2009 truck valued at $44,000. The truck will be given away at the Grand American in August. The winner does not have to be present to win. Kern Motor Co. will have a display on site and we hope all will visit and show them your support.

Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame 2008 Inductees

BOB BAYNE

Bob was possibly the most energetic promoter of trapshooting in Virginia in the past 30 years. He was a tireless worker who had a forward and aggressive vision for our sport and could probably be credited with the notion that the shooters of Virginia could have their own home grounds. He was the epitome of the backbone of our game; an average shooter who got involved simply because he loved trapshooting. Bob passed away prematurely but he is remembered by the trapshooters of Virginia as a hard worker and good friend.

DAVE HAKOLA Dave began shooting registered trap targets in 1969; he has been a life member of the ATA since 1972. He has been attending the Grand American annually since 1999. To date he has shot 165,500 registered targets. After eye surgery he is shooting better than ever! While he attends shoots at many of the Virginia clubs, his willingness to become involved in the actual management and direction of gun clubs is equally or more important. This involvement began in the 1980s when he served as a director of the former Prince George’s (Maryland) Rod and Gun Club. He is a long-standing member and director of the Winchester Gun Club and is currently secretary. He is invaluable in matters of gun club safety and liability issues, and is one of the three VTA trustees responsible for safeguarding the VTA’s interest and that of all members of the VTA in the operation of the Winchester Gun Club. Dave formed a Virginia tax exempt corporation, the Virginia Trapshooting Hall of Fame Foundation, Inc. (VTHOF) and it is now approved by the IRS as a 501(c) (3) organization. This was done at no cost to the VTA other than required state and federal fees. The VTHOF is now a viable organization concentrating its efforts in getting more youth involved in trapshooting. Until recently Dave served on its board of directors. The VTHOF will outlive us all and, hopefully, help the growth and life of trapshooting in Virginia like nothing any of us has done before.
