Fascinating Facts! An adult’s lungs contain about 300 million alveoli.

If flattened out, the surface area would be about 70 square meters, or the size of a tennis court! This much surface area allows the lungs to absorb a large amount of oxygen.

Your lung capacity (or how much air your lungs can hold) depends on how old you are, how tall you are and whether you are a boy or a girl.

At age 12-15 your lungs can hold from 3 to 5 liters of air.

You breathe about 20,000 times a day!
