Cost to You

Document cameras come in a wide variety of styles. The pricing goes up depending on the zoom availabilities and overall qualities of the camera

You can usually get a better deal if you purchase in high quantities and combine them with projectors

I was lucky, we built a new building 2 years ago and every room has a projector built into the ceiling. The only cost we had was the Elmo themselves.

We went with AverVision and they are great cameras. Their cost was $490.00 each

Elmos

Here is one of the modest end styles. This is a TT-12/XK2200 camera that comes with a projector priced at $1,110.00 as a group.

Classroom uses

Project things simultaneously, for example if students are bringing in leaves for a class leaf collection you can place a leaf on the viewing area and use the enlarger to show even the intricacy of the veins within the leaf as well as the leafs colors.

Pages from picture books Photographs Magazines Something like an alpha smart to teach students

how to use all of the features Enlarge type for vision impaired students Anything you would have used an overhead

projector for exemplified

Downside

Document cameras are rather expensive because you also have to purchase the projectors. Grants can be written and as I stated earlier buying them in higher volume as a package deal with projectors is the best bet.

Bulbs for projectors are expensive also and when it burns out your Elmo isn’t available either.

More Positives

Connect directly to your computer Because you can connect to your

computer you can do a lesson using the internet and they can all participate

Students can operate it and show their work they have done. This could be anything from a written journal to a colorful picture they created.

Place the students text books directly under the Elmo for choral reading
