Introduction & Purpose

The recently completed campus facilities master plan features student housing as an area of focus for the next 10 to 15 year period.

Student housing is antiquated and in need of major refurbishment.

Today’s students are demanding more space, privacy, and amenities.

Methods

Strategic goals for student housing include:

•Number of available beds remain constant•All rooms will be air conditioned•Construction will conform to campus standards•Completed prior to 2018•Have a positive impact on Downtown Terre Haute•Maintain affordability for students•Maintain a strong financial position•Improve housing for Greek organizations

Benchmarks

•Percentage of beds renovated or replaced increased from 28% to 60%

•Maintain affordability in standard room and board rate increases to an average of 3%

•Maintain strong financial position as measured by debt coverage ratio of at least 1.5%

Summary

•By Fall 2015 all existing residence halls, with the exception of Sycamore Towers, will renovated or replaced.

•Student presence in Downtown Terre Haute will add vibrancy and increased need for retail services.

•Renovation/Replacement of current housing facilities will assist in efforts to attract and retain traditional age students.
