ROTARY PLEDGE I do solemnly promise to help advance the Object of Rotary, comply with the Constitution and By-Laws of Rotary International and of the Rotary Club of Mandaluyong ever putting into practice Rotary’s motto: “Service Above Self”.
THE FOUR-WAY TEST Is it the TRUTH? Is it Fair to all concerned? Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
THE OBJECT OF ROTARY The OBJECT of ROTARY is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: FIRST: The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service. SECOND: High ethical standards in business and professions, the recogni-tion of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and dignifying of each Ro-tarian’s occupation as an opportunity to serve society. THIRD: The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life. FOURTH: The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.
DECLARATIONS OF ROTARINS IN BUSINESSES AND PROFESSIONS
As a Rotarian engaged in business or profession I am expected to:
1. CONSIDER my vocation to be another opportunity to serve.
2. BE FAITHFUL to the letter and the spirit of the ethical codes
of my vocation, to the laws of my country, and to the moral
standards of my community.
3. DO ALL in my power to dignify my vocation and to promote
the highest ethical standards in my chosen profession.
4. BE FAIR to my employer, employees, associates, competitors,
customers, the public and all those with whom I have a business
or professional relationship.
5. RECOGNIZE the honor and respect due to all occupations
which are useful to society.
6. OFFER my vocational talents to provide opportunities for

Thank you, Father,
for the gift of Rotary and each other.
we give thanks for the pleasure of gathering
together for this occasion.
We give thanks for this food prepared
by loving hands.
We give thanks for life, the freedom to enjoy it all,
and all other blessings.
As we partake of this food, we pray for health and
strength to carry on and try to live as You would have
us. This we ask in the name of Christ, Our Heavenly
Father.
Amen.

Hello all and welcome to our celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival,
or as we call it, the Mooncake and Dice game fellowship. A big thank
you to the spouses committee for organizing this event.
We had a great speaker last week, and it was interesting to hear about
the work of the Philippine Band of Mercy and I thank all who at-
tended. Their mission matches our district thrust of assisting persons’
with disabilities, and the MOA we signed ceremonially puts us in
support of this endeavor. Thank you to Sec. Edwin for reviewing the
final MOA, which we will give to PBM soon.
Thank you too to Dir. Ernie and Dir. Josh for helping represent the
club in our friendship visit to our sister clubs RC Pudu, and RC Kow-
loon Golden Mile. It was very refreshing to meet our sister clubs and less formal surroundings,
and understand their efforts to provide service above self.
At Pudu, Pres. Daisy, PE Patrick, Sec. Heng, and Dir. Elaine, and IPP Alex hosted us in their
usual inimitable style. IPP Alex was justifiably proud of the 9 awards their club received, but
one project particularly stands out. Their tri-club project on training women of the Thonburi
Women’s Correctional Institute was a cooperative effort between themselves, RC Dhonburi
(Thailand) and RC Singapore West. PE Patrick mentioned that they hope to expand this pro-
ject to five clubs next year, and there is a feeler out to out club. Paging PE John? They also
hope to do an international food festival sometime in November. More details on their club can
be found on http://www.alexchanglaw.com/PRC-DistrictAwards-2013_2014.html. Like us,
they have transitioned to digital distribution, and it makes for an interesting story.
The RC KGM visit was more low-key, as Dir. Ernie and myself chose to come as visiting Ro-
tarians. We were entertained by the informal nature of their meeting, and their speaker on
“Using Linked In to promote your business.” Many visiting Rotarians were present (this being
Hong Kong after all) and Pres. Mazhar and I had a great chat on our mutual challenges, and our
mutual projects.
Unfortunately, I cannot fit all into this short space, but as the Heraclitus says, “Nothing is per-
manent except change.” As we face it, so do our international sister clubs.
As a postscript, PP Albert is inviting all to attend the visit of PP Shuichi Shimoida of RC Kiryu
West to our MPNAG Culinary Center tomorrow at about 9 AM. Do come.
We do have a lot going on as we strive to “LIGHT UP ROTARY.” Keep in step by checking
http://bit.ly/rcmanda for our facebook page, http://bit.ly/rcmcalendar for our calendar, or http://
bit.ly/rcmmagfor our Magdalo issues.
Cheers!

Greetings to my fellow Rotarians! We are on our twelfth
meeting of our Club in RY 2014-2015. Today, we celebrate
the Mooncake Festival through a Dice Game. We thank our
very generous Pres. Gion Fabella for opening the doors of
his home and hosting today’s meeting. In case you are join-
ing us after a long break from the Club, a warm welcome
back. We are glad that you joined us tonight for some fun
and merriment.
PAST-PRESENT-FUTURE Pres. Gion and I atteneded the Public Speaking Seminar last
30 August 2014 hosted by the Rotary Club of San Juan led
by Best Class President Rose Caoc. The Guest Speaker was Past District Governor
of the Toastmasters International, the very energetic Ms. Baby Luat, DTM.
As Rotarians, we will find ourselves in situations where we will need to speak to
people regarding who we are and our purpose of being as Rotarians. There may be
instances when we are called to say a few words extemporaneously. A simple piece
of advice. DON’T PANIC. There were many things discussed during the Seminar
but one of the easiest mnemonics which I remembered by heart is P-P-F, which
stands for Past, Present, and Future. In case you are called to speak with only 1-2
minutes prep time, just go to a topic you know best and discuss it based on a
chronological sequence. Talk about how things used to be, how things are now, and
how you would like things to be in a year or two. I used to be a Toastmaster myself
and this works for me all the time. Do try it one of these days, even in front of a
mirror. After all, practice makes perfect.
Incidentally, the second lecture in the JRU Executive Lecture Series will be on Fri-
day 19 September 2014 at 2 PM in JRU. Guest lecturer is Mr. Nelson M. Aspe,
Deputy Commissioner for Operation, Bureau of Internal Revenue. This is a joint
project between Jose Rizal University and Rotary Club of Mandaluyong.
CLUB REMINDERS
RC Taipei Northwest, Taiwan (D-3480) Induction is scheduled on 26 September
2014. Let any of your Club Officers or the Secretariat know if you are interested to
join the RC Mandaluyong contingent for the trip.

Greetings, Fellow Rotarians!
A gentle reminder to keep your dues
current.
Our current project, the MPNAG culinary laboratory is
in full swing. Even though the project is being funded
by matching grants of our sister clubs abroad, our club would be contribut-
ing substantially as well in order to make this project successful.
In this regard, I would like to remind everybody to update their financial
obligations with our club so that no special assessment would be needed in
funding our projects. Of course, any additional contribution from our fellow
members are most welcome. You can approach me or our president anytime.
In order to increase the awareness among ourselves to settle our accounts,
individual statement of accounts will soon be distributed. Please feel free to
contact your humble club treasurer or our club secretariat should you have
concerns regarding your statement balances.
Rest assure that starting next week, I will be giving you weekly update of our
club finances as well as special announcement on financial matters. It is
hoped that it will create an awareness among our members to continue their
support with our club not only physically, but financially as well.
More power to our club!
