    THE KIND HEARTED WOODPECKER

    SONG:Mr. Woodpecker is flying high,

    Flying high, flying high,Mr. Woodpecker is flying high,

    High in the skyMr. Woodpecker is unhappy,

    Unhappy, unhappy,Mr. Woodpecker is unhappy,

    So he flies to another place

    One day, Mr. Woodpecker was flying to another forest. He had to move to another place

    because the forest where he used to live has been destroyed! People wanted to build

    houses there. Tsk tsk tsk

    Mr. Woodpecker found a huge tree. It was suitable to build his new home. However it wasalmost dark when Mr. Woodpecker began to make a hole on the tree. Tuk tuk tuk tuk tuk!Suddenly, Mr. Woodpecker heard a shrilled voice.

    Excuse me, Mr. Woodpecker, canyou please keep quite! Im trying to sleep!said asquirrel.

    Oh dear, I am so sorry for disturbing yousaid Mr. Woodpecker.

    He immediately stopped pecking. That night, Mr. Woodpecker slept in the open. Althoughhe was very cold, he was patient.

    The next day, Mr. Woodpecker began to build his home. Tuk tuk tuk tuk tuk tuk! Mr.Squirrel, who lived in the tree nearby, was very unhappy with the loud noise.

    Mr. Woodpecker! If u must peck wood, will you please go and peck in some otherplace? he said angrily.

    Mr. Woodpecker did not reply, but he kept on pecking. Tuk tuk tuk!

    Mr. Squirrel was not at all satisfied. He stormed out of his nest to look for food and so didthe other animals. While Mr. Squirrel was out, a snake slithered up the tree into his nest. Mr.

    Snake hoped to have baby squirrels for breakfast! (Gasp) Luckily, Mr. Squirrel had nochildren. Phew! The greedy snake ate all Mr. Squirrels food. When Mr. Squirrel camehome, he was furious to find all his food gone! He immediately suspected that Mr.Woodpecker was the culprit and told everyone that Mr. Woodpecker was a thief.

    The other animals did not quite believe him, for Mr. Woodpecker seemed kind hearted tothem. One day, while Mr. Squirrel was sleeping, Mr. Snake creeps into his nest andwrapped his coils around the squirrel.

    He he! Ive always found lots of food here, said the snake, but today, Ive got areally big mealthe owner of the food store himself! He, he!

    Mr. Squirrel could not do anything to help himself. Quite by chance, Mr. Woodpeckerpassed by. As quick as lightning, Mr. Woodpecker scratched the snakes body with hisclaws and pecked at the snakes eyes. Blinded, Mr. Snake released the squirrel and

    slithered away. In the end, Mr. Squirrel realized that he had misjudged Mr. Woodpecker.

    Im sorry Mr. Woodpecker said Mr. Squirrel. Thats alright, I forgive u. We areneighbours and we should always help one anotherreplied Mr. Woodpecker.

    Mr. Woodpecker and Mr. Squirrel had become friends ever since.

    My dear teachers and friends, the moral of the story is, we should preserve as well as

    protect our flora and fauna and their natural habitats to maintain the biodiversity and the

    ecosystem. Moreover, we should always be kind to one another and never think ill of others.
