Our logo was redesigned and the campaign was rolled out online and in a comprehensive brochure. We also created our first brand film demonstrating how a room can be transformed starting with the floor.

BrintonsThe Principal York

Luxury lifestyle hotel The Principal York, formerly the Royal York Hotel, opened in November 2016 after an award-winning remodelling and refurbishment programme that includes bespoke carpets and rugs designed and made by Brintons.

Interior design practice Goddard Littlefair’s overall ambition was to breathe life back into every artery, giving a nod to tradition and heritage, whilst creating a light, welcoming and contemporary environment in the form of a modern and softer country house interior. Brintons was delighted to be selected to help achieve this ambitious design of the grand 155-room Victorian hotel, located next to the railway station in the historic city of York. Working closely with Goddard Littlefair, Brintons own design team helped to design and manufacture over 1700 sqm of custom Axminster wool carpet and rugs for the scheme including corridors and stairs, guestrooms, meeting rooms and private dining room.

Cunard’s flagship liner RMS Queen Mary 2 has recently undergone a £90 million pound refurbishment.Brintons was appointed by SMC Design and worked closely with Cunard UK to provide nearly 20,000 m2 of luxury Axminster carpets to the 150,000 tonne transatlantic liner that takes inspiration from the original Queen Mary.The refurbishment includes the construction of 15 new single cabins and an additional 30 Britannia Club cabins with Brintons supplying carpets for a number of public areas and suites.

Developed specifically for bedrooms at the luxury ‘Cottons Hotel’ in Knutsford, Cheshire. The hotel is part of the Thwaites Brewery group, based in Blackburn, Lancashire. The carpet was made in the same home town to Cavalier Carpets.

Erased has been created in hand knotted Himalayan wool, exquisitely combining looped and cut pile. The abrash technique, whereby two close-toned burgundy wools have been spun together, given a random effect as each colour reveals itself on the loom at uncontrolled intervals. A sense of tactility has been carefully achieved through this fusion of colour and technique that contributes to the distressed feel of the rug, which appears as if the motif has been practically rubbed out.

Erased has been created in hand knotted Himalayan wool, exquisitely combining looped and cut pile. The abrash technique, whereby two close-toned burgundy wools have been spun together, given a random effect as each colour reveals itself on the loom at uncontrolled intervals. A sense of tactility has been carefully achieved through this fusion of colour and technique that contributes to the distressed feel of the rug, which appears as if the motif has been practically rubbed out.

Tim Gosling’s latest designs Empire and Deco Border encapsulate the elegance of the Art Deco period, featuring the angular lines, geometric pattern and symmetry which became synonymous with early twentieth century design. In a pared-back palette of muted silver and bronze, the rugs emulate the iconic metallic palette of the twenties and thirties. Both rugs are hand-knotted in a luxurious combination of the finest Tibetan wool with silk motifs, the silk yarns radiate an iridescence which results in a highly luxurious finish.

John Duncan is a long standing industry professional. He has spent his whole working life in the carpet world, starting his career at Victoria Carpets where he was always been known for his positive approach and keen eye for quality, and colour, his sharp sense for product development and style. He became Joint MD there and he helped drive the business from a small company to a successful PLC.

Retirement gave him a whole new role and he has been chairman of the Carpet Foundation for many years where his enthusiasm has helped grow and maintain the membership body for the future.

This inspiring husband and wife team founded The Rug Company in London in 1997 with the vision of bringing together the age-old craft of rug making with contemporary design. When they started their company, the rug industry was in a spiral of decline but their philosophy of combining meticulous craftsmanship with original design, quality and service led to an instant success and it is a leading name for handmade rugs.

They are represented in fourteen countries and have commissioned 40 of the world’s most influential and inspirational designers including Paul Smith, Vivienne Westwood, Tom Dixon and Alexander McQueen. They support the traditional art of rug making and are a major source of employment in Nepal here they strive to improve the industry both ethically and environmentally.
