Principal’s Message Curriculum Year P- Welcome to the start of Week 6. This term is flying by too quickly. This week in Science we are investigating and then reporting and drawing a diagram of another sport which uses the push, pull or twist force. This will be the last practise example before the children begin their assessment next week. The children are also having their last guided writing instruction on adding an event to a narrative, before attempting to independently write one in Week 7. In Maths we are working on Measurement in Prep, Chance and Data in Year 1 and Number and Place Value in Year 2. Year 3-6 This week in English, students have been learning how to write an effective persuasive text, with an introduction, body paragraphs and conclusions. They can now provide many arguments as to why plastic bags should be banned, whilst using modal words. In Mathematics, students have been working on asking the right questions to collect data, two-way tables and representing data in bar and column graphs. They have completed their poem ‘Granny and the Snake’ and are now refining it. Students in technology, are continuing to improve their typing and computer literacy skills. - Leyburn State School is committed to developing respectful, resilient, responsible and safe students with embedded values towards lifelong wellbeing. Week 2 Be safe, respect others right to learn Week 3 Be responsible, transitioning into classroom on time Week 4 Be responsible, looking after equipment appropriately Week 5 Be respectful, respect others right to learn Week 6 Be respectful, participate in classroom activities THE INFORMER Principal Mr Jack Mathewson Leyburn S.S. Leyburn State School Fortnightly Newsletter Edition 17, 13th November, 2018

Principal’s Message Leyburn State School students are given many opportunities, both curricular and extra-curricular. In the last few weeks, Leyburn SS students have participated in ‘Count us In’, in Warwick, with over 500 other students, had school photos, commemorated Remembrance Day and are working hard towards the penultimate part of the term. We are now just over halfway through the term and have very many exciting events and

plans for the remainder of the school year. Toys at School I would like to reiterate that if students bring toys from home and choose to play with them during learning time, the toys will be confiscated. ‘Count Us In’

Leyburn participated and performed with 500 students from the Warwick area, on Thursday the 1st of November. They performed their three songs and enjoyed having morning tea in Leslie Park. They then walked up to Warwick Central State School and participated in two music lessons with students from year 5 and 6. They also enjoyed lunch with students and returned from Warwick, via bus. All in all a great day was had by all.

100km Club Students across the school are participating in the 100km club from 8:40am – 9:00am each morning. The aim of the club is for students to be active and walk, run and dance their way around our course to reach the end goal of 100km (for the year). As we have only started this term, students will receive a combined total for distance travelled at the end of the term and will receive weekly 100 km Club awards. We certainly have some talented sports people at Leyburn! Library Bus Please note that the Library Bus will be at the CWA Hall next visit 14th November. Clothing As the weather seems to be a bit warmer some days, others are still a bit cold. So please make sure your child’s has the appropriate clothing and it has been clearly marked with their name. Having these items clearly named will allow them to be returned to their rightful owners. Please make sure to name items in a few places so they can be easily found.

Assembly

Due to other school commitments assembly will occur this Friday afternoon at 2:45pm.

P&C Our next P&C meeting is to be held on 10th December, 2018 in the upstairs classroom. I look forward to seeing some more new members.

Behaviour

Leyburn State School is committed to developing respectful, resilient, responsible and safe students with embedded values towards lifelong learning. Our PBL focus for the next few weeks is as follows:

Week 6 - Participate in classroom activities.

Week 7 – Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.

Week 8 – Transition into the classroom quietly and on time.

Week 9 – Follow instructions first time every time.

Week 10 – Follow instructions first time every time.

On Friday the 2nd of November, two notes were sent home regarding current classroom behaviour strategies and practices. The notes outline the behaviour and signature charts and are used in classrooms each day. Please ensure that you read the notes with your children and return the signed form to school as soon as possible. The school will phone in the coming days to follow up any notes that aren’t returned

Pre-prep days

Over the coming weeks, Leyburn State School will be hosting three ‘pre-prep’ days. The dates for the days will be the 28th of November, the 6th and the 11th of December. Further information will be disseminated to the families involved in the coming weeks.

Christmas Stall – 9am-11am on the 16th and 22nd and 11-1pm on the 28th of November Playgroup A reminder that there will not be Playgroup this Wednesday 14th November. If any parents have wonderful ideas of what to do at playgroup please feel free to share your ideas with Miss O’Kane. Also don’t forget to bring spare

clothes and your hats for the outdoor activities in the lovely spring weather. All community members are welcome to attend playgroup. It is held each Wednesday from 9.00am – 11.00am. If you would like more information please contact the school office.

School Banking School banking will occur on a Thursday. Please place all banking in the school box in the office no later than 9.00am Thursday. Jack Mathewson Principal

On Monday the 12th of November, Leyburn State School held a commemorative service at 11:00am. Students laid poppies, participated in a minutes silence at 11:00am and were taught about what Remembrance Day means to us as Australians and the reasons why we commemorate. Rori Cullen read the poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ and Jacob Davis read ‘The Ode’. Both students read admirably and lead the solemn occasion with pride. Students participated admirably and

respectfully throughout the service.

Next P & C Meeting is on the 10th December, 2018 at 3:15 pm in the upstairs classroom. New members are welcome. If you are wishing to purchase uniforms, please see one of the P&C committee members for assistance.
