School Community Charter

Attached to this newsletter is the School Community Charter which highlights the importance

of creating a Collaborative, Respectful School where Communication levels are high between all

stakeholders and there is respect for everyone. It is important that we all adhere to this charter

to ensure we maximise the wellbeing of all. You can access the charter on the link below or

read it as an attachment to this newsletter.

Safety around our school

Students’ safety and wellbeing is our foremost concern and we all need to be mindful of

practices that may put children in danger. There are a number of considerations relating to our

school setting which need identification as they are potentially hazardous, and our combined

community needs to be vigilant about ensuring every student is kept safe and that safe

practices are in place

Page 2: The Forestville FlyerThe Forestville Flyer Monday 18 February, 2019 Term 1 Week 4 Address : 7 Melwood Ave, Forestville, 2087 Ph : 9452 5444 Email : forestvill-p.school@det.nsw.edu.au

I have included information from the Transport, Roads and Maritime Services website.

https://www.rms.nsw.gov.au/roads/safety-rules/road-rules/parking.html

NO STOPPING/NO STANDING

These signs mean that in the area in the direction of the

arrow you must not stop your vehicle at any point on

the road or kerb, unless there is a medical or other

emergency.

Sometimes a no stopping area is indicated by a solid

yellow edge line.

We have a number of these signs around the entrances to our school which most

parents and carers observe, however there are some students being dropped in these

spaces. Please adhere to the road rules as they are created for the safety and benefit of

everyone.

School Car Park – Darley Road.

Our school car parks are very busy and dangerous places during the hours of 7.45 and

5.00pm. We ask all parents and carers to only use the car park outside the hours of

7.45am and 4.00pm. The staff park their cars in a very systematic way between these

hours to maximise the number of cars we can fit in, so if a car is left in an awkward

position when staff are arriving at school, it can become very problematic. We ask our

community to only park on the concrete section and enter the school via the gate

between the Kindergarten rooms as this is safest for the children. The unpaved area

needs to be available for teachers’ vehicles and tradespeople, and for safety reasons

community members and students should not be walking in this area. If you are a

pedestrian please use the main gate near the large painted mural as the access point.

We really appreciate your consideration and cooperation in using these facilities.

Parent representatives – Stage 2 and 3 Parent Information evenings.

As part of our plan to promote good communication across all classes we are asking for

2 parent volunteers for each class. These volunteers will liaise with the classroom teacher

and communicate information to other parents and work in conjunction with the P&C to

promote fundraising and the delivery of improvements in the school. As a shared role

the workload will be lessened and responsibilities divided. We truly appreciate parents

taking this role on board and it’s a great way to get to know the other parents and the

students. Teachers will ask for parent volunteers and also collect parents’ emails to add

to the communication lists during the parent information sessions. There are just two

P&C meetings every term which can be shared also. Your attendance at these would be

greatly appreciated as then you will be able to represent your class’s perspective and

provide valued feedback. It will make Forestville an even more community focused

school.

From the Office

SKOOLBAG APP

Please download the Skoolbag App as this is our preferred means to our community. You

can use this app to send absent notes / change of address etc. You will also receive alerts

from the school if any changes occur to excursions etc.

YEAR 7 IN 2020

An expression of Interest form was sent home last Monday with all Year 6 students

for placement in Year 7, 2020 in NSW Government schools. Please complete the form

and return to the school no later than Monday 18 March, 2019. All information

relating to the expression of interest is on the form. If you have any questions or

concerns please see Katy Costa (Stage 3 AP).

Growth Mindset Parenting

Talk About the Brain

The brain is far more malleable than we once thought. Teaching our kids that they

actually have control over growing their brains through the actions they take is

empowering! Tell your children that when they work hard, that’s the feeling of their

neurons connecting. The dendrites are reaching out to other dendrites, trying to

connect to make a stronger brain. What strengthens those connections is practice,

asking questions, and actively participating in learning. When children learn that their

brains physically change with effort, it leads to increased motivation and achievement.

Show your children the Brain animation clip attached to the link below to explain!

Student Banking

Get involved in the School Banking program.

Forestville Public School is excited to offer the Commonwealth Bank School Banking

program to all students.

School Banking is a fun, interactive and engaging way for young Australians to learn

about money and develop good savings habits. Children who deposit money into their

Youthsaver account through School Banking earn Dollarmites tokens, which they can

save up and redeem for exciting rewards.

School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school. Our school receives a Regular

Savers Contribution of $5 for every 10 deposits processed per student as well as an

Annual Contribution which is based on the number of students who made at least one

School Banking deposit in the prior year.

Getting involved in School Banking is easy!

All you need to get involved in the School Banking program is a Commonwealth Bank

Youthsaver account. You can open an account for your child in one of two ways:

1. Online

Visit commbank.com.au/schoolbanking and click on the link to open a Youthsaver

account.

2. In branch

Visit a Commonwealth Bank branch with identification for yourself and your child, like a

driver’s licence and birth certificate.

If your child has an existing Commonwealth Bank Youthsaver account they can start

banking straight away. They just need to bring their deposit in every week on School

Banking day using their Dollarmites deposit wallet.

STEWART HOUSE CLOTHING APPEAL 2019

We are once again collecting clothing for the Stewart House Appeal. Collection bags

have been sent home to the oldest child in each family. If you did not receive a bag you

are welcome to use any plastic bag that you have. Please drop off any bags to the

office.

Date of collection for pickup is: Friday, 1 March, 2019

HEADLICE

Please be aware we have had multiple reported cases of headlice in the school. Please

check your child regularly and treat if necessary before bringing your child to school.

TERM ACCOUNTS

Term 1 Accounts were sent home via email last week. If you did not receive this

email could you please contact the office to update your details. Prompt
