Kentucky Utilities Company 220 West Main Street Louisville, Kentucky 40202 Commentary Searching for the Truth in a World full of Religion by BOB CASEY, preacher Cornerstone Church of Christ 70 Bond Street at Camp Avenue in West Irvine On the day when Jesus will judge all of mankind, will he accept any religion of man? Or, does our Lord have a way that is different from man’s religion? In our quest for Heaven, we must not accept any teachings giv- en among men to save us; we must search for the truth. Jesus says in John 8:31-32, “. . . If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; 32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” So, then, the truth must be sought for. How is the truth revealed. Notice what our Lord said, “Continue in my Word.” This is done through making one’s self familiar with the Bible. 2 Timothy 3:16-17, “All scrip- ture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 17 That the man of God may be perfect, (complete) throughly furnished unto all good works.” Let me say this! When I first read God’s word with a desire to know the truth, I found that all the plan of Christ to save man was not found in a single verse alone, but is found in several text. Such as John 3:16. This verse is all truth, but it alone is not all of the truth. The verse does not reveal that we are told in order to be saved we not only have to believe but also to repent of all our past sins. For Jesus says if we don’t, we will perish. It (John 3:15) says nothing about the command to confess our sins before witnesses (men) that we believe that Jesus is the Son of God. It says nothing about being baptized in enough water to immerse or bury you and that this burial is for (unto) the remission of our sins. So again, all who may have, or are, basing your hope on Heaven upon John 3:16 alone are selling yourselves short of the truth of the Gospel. Sadly, many folks have never investigat- ed the Scriptures enough to know what the full truth is. They never really know that Christ only built one church and that church bears only his name. Romans 16:16 & Matthew 16:18. That this church was given a day in which to assemble to worship (not to eat fish). That the worship consisted of singing without playing, that pray- ing was not an option, that preaching was the strength of their knowledge, that eating the Lord’s Supper was the main course, that laying by in store was not just 10% but as you prospered in the past week (1 Corinthians 16:1- 2). Sadly, if many tried to survive upon what they gave to the Lord, they would starve to death in a short time. Friends, there is coming a day (2 Corinthians 5:10) that we will give an answer to Jesus as he gazes upon us, asking us to give an accounting of our lives spent here on earth. This is no joke! So many are living as it will not come, but it will because the Saviour promised that he will (John 14:16). This I know, if you do not prepare for that day by obeying, and then live by the instruction in the Bible ,you will wish for eternity that you ought to have done so. So, act now, for we know not when the day will come! Visit with us at Cornerstone, 70 Bond Street at West Irvine, study, compare what is taught in the Bible. Ask questions. Investigate us, see if we are fol- lowing the truth. For indeed it is the only thing that will set you free. Phone 1-859-369-4165. Sincerely, Bob Casey
