END NOTES
My Dear Fiddler Cast,
Thank you for the joy, memories, courage, and kindness you exhibited throughout our rehearsalprocess, and especially on our "Friday Night Lights" spur- of -the- moment performance. It wassimply magical. While the show didn't end the way any of us wanted it to end, the memories andlife lessons will be treasures that we can always draw hope from, gaining inspiration in those hardmoments that will surely come again. Whether it was singing while Boden jammed on the piano, orhanging out at the beach, or doing the opening number for the fiftieth time, I loved being with you.
I love you, Mrs. Ward
DIRECTORS NOTESFiddler on the Roof is a story for all of us - a story - of history, family, religion, and the reality thatsuffering doesn't have to kill joy. Historically Fiddler covers the painful, often forgotten periodof more than 4 million Jews who were starved, killed, and expelled from Russia. America Jewscame together - as did America, to some degree, to raise war funds for refugees and help thepersecuted come to the United States.
The theme of family is strong throughout the play, as Tevye, the main character, and his wife,Golde, work tirelessly to provide, to love, and to educate their daughters in the face of poverty andpersecution.. It is true in the play - and true in life - that such tireless parenting creates a family cansurvive through change and tragedy, ultimately building good people and strong community.
Most importantly, Tevye shows us what authentic faith in God produces. The character of Tevyehas, in different socio-political seasons, been vilified for his belief in an all- powerful God. Modernaudiences of diverse religious and political ideals embrace Fiddler on the Roof, for a variety ofreasons but for believers, the message is clear and precious. Tevye encourages us. Hepersists. He doesn't lose faith. And he hears God's voice in his heart.
SPECIAL THANKSParents of the Cast and Crew, Pacifica Faculty and Administration, The Ebell Theatre, OurAdvertisers, Paul and Laurie Holden, Vanda Eggington for her musical leadership, Yvette
Kratzberg, Paige Shields, Heidi Steiner, Annie & Rion Dalby, Simeon Brown - our Fiddler - and bigbrother to Eliana & Judah Brown, Blackbox Merch and the Volunteers and Members of the
community who donated time and props to our production
