MAKE OUR MARK Church-wide Mission Trip This year, the week of July 2 - 8 has been designated CALVARY’S WEEK at SPY (Service Project Youth) located in Christiansburg, VA. Work is done by teams of youth and adults. Are you interested in more information? Please contact Beth at [email protected]. Calvary will Make Our Mark this summer and spend some time helping others. Introducing Our New Missionary From Max Westmoreland, Chair, Missions Team Calvary is happy to announce a new initiative on the recommendation of the Missions Team. Calvary will undertake a Covenant Relationship with the General Board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church to “adopt” a Virginia Conference-supported international missionary. Our Missions Team has chosen to adopt Jacques (zhahk) Akasa (a-JEES-a) Umembudi (HU- mem-bu-DI). Jacques is a missionary of the GBoGM or the UMC assigned to the Wings of Caring Aviation Ministry in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo. With over 26 years of flight experience, Jacques is a pilot- mechanic and program director of the Wings of Caring Aviation Ministry. He flies people and supplies to various missions in the region. Jacques explains the importance of his work this way: “When I fly missionaries, pastors and church leaders, we carry the Good News to where the Gospel is needed. When I fly doctors or medical teams, when I fly sick persons to the hospitals where their lives are saved...when I fly seminary or college professors to teach, I think I am doing God’s will. In some places, if we don’t fly in supplies like salt, soap or matches, there is no other way such supplies will get to the population. May of our mission stations depend on the Aviation Ministry for survival. Through aviation, children can get shots for immunization. It’s not just a means of transportation, but it is a whole ministrythe Gospelthat is preached in different ways.” The Missions Team will be in communication with Jacuqes and provide information on his mission successes during our covenant relationship. Please pray for the Lord to hold Jacques safe in his mission flights. Celebration of Life ...of Evelyn Zeller On Saturday, May 7 friends and family gathered to celebrate the life of Evelyn Jean Thomson Zeller. Educated at Strayer Business College, Evelyn enjoyed a career working for the Pentagon and later as Executive Secretary for the United States Post Master General. Evelyn was a lifelong faithful member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Arlington, where she passionately devoted her love for music by participating in the Bell Choir. ...she was an avid and exceptional golfer and was a devoted member of the Army-Navy Country Club. Calling All Graduates It’s Getting to be That Time of Year We want to celebrate with our graduates. If you have a graduate, please send us their information (and future plans if you wish) so that we can put it in an upcoming Calmeth and so that this community can pray for them and celebrate with them. Send information to [email protected]. Pentecost Will Be a Day of Celebrating On Sunday, May 15 there will be several things happening during worship (and afterward). Calvary will celebrate with several families who have attended, and joined the church but are now moving to new areas of the country and the world. The Children’s Choir will provide special music at 11am worship, and there will also be a baptism. Poto Valentine Shutsha and Jacques Akasa Umembudi

Also if you think of anyone who might be interested in this book or the group in general please spread the word. Here is description of the book from Amazon… C.S. If you live in an apartment building or miss your letter carrier, donations can also be made at the North, South, Main, Shirlington, and Preston King post offices. AFAC's goal is to collect 35,000 pounds of food. Most needed items include low sodium canned soup, tuna, tomato products and beans and low sugar cereal.
